Effects of transcranial magnetic stimulation on neurobiological changes in Alzheimer's disease (Review).

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cognitive decline and brain neuronal loss. A pioneering field of research in AD is brain stimulation via electromagnetic fields (EMFs), which may produce clinical benefits. Noninvasive brain stimulation techniques, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), have been developed to treat neurological and psychiatric disorders.

Efficacy and safety profile of COVID-19 vaccine in cancer patients: a prospective, multicenter cohort study.

To compare the seropositivity rate of cancer patients with noncancer controls after inactive SARS-CoV-2 vaccination and evaluate the factors affecting seropositivity. Spike IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 were measured in blood samples of 776 cancer patients and 715 noncancer volunteers. An IgG level ≥50 AU/ml is accepted as seropositive.

Prognostic Value of Tissue-Resident Memory T Cells and Tumor Microenvironmental Features in Resected Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma.

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma differs from other solid tumors with its unique immunosuppressive microenvironment and non-immunogenic feature. There are not many studies in the literature investigating the effect of these features on prognosis.

Behçet's disease is a multisystem inflammatory disease that manifests with oral-genital ulcers, skin lesions, arthritis, and ophthalmologic and neurovascular findings. Neurological involvement of Behçet's disease is called neuro-Behçet's disease, and it is a difficult entity to diagnose because of insufficient symptoms. We present a 26-year-old male patient with complaints of headache, dizziness, and drop foot in the right lower extremity.

The role of endotheliitis in COVID-19: Real-world experience of 11 190 patients and literature review for a pathophysiological map to clinical categorisation.

Objective: COVID-19 may yield a variety of clinical pictures, differing from pneumonitis to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome along with vascular damage in the lung tissue, named endotheliitis. To date, no specific treatment strategy was approved for the prevention or treatment of COVID-19 in terms of endotheliitis-related comorbidities. Here, we presented our treatment strategies for 11 190 COVID-19 patients depending on categorisation by the severity of both the respiratory and vascular distress and presented the manifestations of endotheliitis in skin, lung and brain tissues according to the different phases of COVID-19.

Diamond Blackfan anemia (DBA) is a rare congenital syndrome presenting primarily as pure red cell aplasia with constitutional abnormalities and cancer predisposition. Established treatment options are corticosteroids, regular erythrocyte transfusions with iron chelation therapy, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). To date, HSCT is the only definitive curative treatment for the hematological phenotype of DBA, but there is little experience with its use.

The opioid peptide biphalin modulates human corneal epithelial wound healing in vitro.

Purpose: Analgesic drugs, including nonselective opioids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, should be used with great precautions to relieve pain after trauma to the corneal epithelium because of their unfavorable effects on wound healing. Biphalin is a synthetic opioid peptide that has been demonstrated to possess a strong analgesic effect on rodents. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of biphalin on human corneal epithelial wound healing.

Children With Dyscalculia Show Hippocampal Hyperactivity During Symbolic Number Perception.

Dyscalculia is a learning disability affecting the acquisition of arithmetical skills in children with normal intelligence and age-appropriate education. Two hypotheses attempt to explain the main cause of dyscalculia. The first hypothesis suggests that a problem with the core mechanisms of perceiving (non-symbolic) quantities is the cause of dyscalculia (core deficit hypothesis), while the alternative hypothesis suggests that dyscalculics have problems only with the processing of numerical symbols (access deficit hypothesis).

Incidence and clinical characteristics of acute rheumatic fever in Turkey: Results of a nationwide multicentre study.

Aim: To evaluate the incidence and clinical features of acute rheumatic fever (ARF) in Turkey, following the revised Jones criteria in 2015.

Methods: This multicentre study was designed by the Acquired Heart Diseases Working Group of the Turkish Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Association in 2016. The data during the first attack of 1103 ARF patients were collected from the paediatric cardiologists between 1 January 2016 and 31 December 2016.

Percutaneous Muscular Ventricular Septal Defect Closure with 2D Transthoracic Echocardiography: Can We Sufficiently Visualize It?

Ventricular septal defect (VSD) is one of the most common congenital heart diseases worldwide today. Although the majority close spontaneously, transcatheter VSD closure is a common option for symptomatic patients with suitable anatomy in adult age. Although transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and intracardiac echocardiography are the most common imaging modalities for the procedure, in patients with poor TEE images, Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) can be used as a reliable alternative.

Magnetic resonance imaging criteria for prediction of isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutation status in patients with grade II-III astrocytoma and oligodendroglioma.

Background: IDH mutation status is an important prognostic marker for glial tumors, which is detected immunohistochemically after surgery. Since this method is invasive, easy and noninvasive magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods have recently been used in predicting the IDH mutation status. However, there is currently no standard MRI technique to predict IDH mutation.

Leprosy is an ancient ailment, also known as Hansen's disease. It primarily involves the superficial peripheral nerves, skin, upper respiratory tract mucosa, eyes, bones and testicles, but not the lungs. Although leprosy patients are not included in the study area of pulmonology, here we present an undiagnosed leprosy patient with a history of smoking, who was referred owing to upper respiratory tract symptoms and bilateral pleural effusions.

A Phase II Study of the Combination of Oxaliplatin, Capecitabine, and Trastuzumab and Chemoradiotherapy in the Adjuvant Setting in Operated Patients With HER2-positive Gastric or Gastroesophageal Junction Cancer (TOXAG Study): A Turkish Oncology Group Study.

Background: Trastuzumab prolonged the overall survival in patients with advanced gastric cancer with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) overexpression in combination with chemotherapy. In this phase II open-label prospective study, the tolerability and safety of trastuzumab with chemotherapy, and chemoradiotherapy for curatively resected patients with HER2-positive gastric carcinoma was investigated.

Methods: The patients with HER2-positive gastric, or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma, after gastrectomy plus D2 dissection, were included.

Abdominal Variant of Lemierre's Syndrome in a Patient with Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma.

Lemierre's syndrome is an illness characterized by internal jugular vein thrombophlebitis related to infectious agents, primarily Fusobacterium necrophorum. These bacteria, residing in both the oropharynx and the gastrointestinal tract, may lead to pylephlebitis, a serious condition that could result in the development of hepatic abscesses. This manifestation of the disease is regarded as the abdominal variant of Lemierre's syndrome.

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in patients with childhood cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy: A single-center experience "Better prognosis in earlier stage".

Background: ALD is a rare X-linked peroxisomal metabolic disorder with many distinct phenotypes of disease that emerge on a wide scale from adrenal insufficiency to fatal cALD which progresses to a vegetative state within a few years. Currently, HSCT is the only treatment method known to stabilize disease progression in patients with cALD. In this study, we aim to report our HSCT experience in patients with cALD and the factors that determine the success of HSCT, as a single-center experience.

Introduction: Childhood obesity can cause hyperlipidemia and hepatic steatosis at early age and chronic disease complications in adult life. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between abdominal subcutaneous fat thickness (ASFT) and hepatic steatosis, serum lipid and transaminase levels in obese children.

Population And Methods: A retrospective study was conducted with children (aged 4-18 years) who presented to outpatient clinic due to obesity.

Non-functional recurrent pituitary adenoma with intracranial metastasis-Pituitary carcinoma: A case report and review of the literature.

Introduction: Pituitary carcinomas are rare, with only a few case reports to date. We present a null cell type non-functioning pituitary carcinoma (NFPC) with intracranial metastases and a review of the literature.

Case Report: A 56-year-old male with a history of an aggressive pituitary adenoma was admitted.

Modeling Schizophrenia with Glioblastoma Cells: In Vitro Analysis of Risperidone Treatment on Glial Spheroids.

Objective: Glioblastoma is the most malicious type of glioma presenting a genetic background via diverse mutations and exhibits differential sensitivity to treatment. Meanwhile, schizophrenia is a heterogeneous disease with a complex etiology. Studies report an elevation in pro-inflammatory cytokines in patients with schizophrenia and changes in biochemical metabolism.

Assessment of Antioxidant Effect of Beta-Glucan on the Whole Blood Oxidative DNA Damage with the Comet Assay in Colorectal Cancer.

Objective: The present study aims to evaluate the antioxidant effect of beta-glucan on oxidative DNA damage by comet assay.

Methods: A total of 19 adult females and males diagnosed with stage 3-4 colorectal cancer and a control group of 20 age-matched healthy subjects were enrolled in the study. Blood samples of the participants were analyzed using Comet Assay for the parameters of DNA damage.

Is Peyronie's an IgG4-related disease?

Objective: We believe that IgG4 may have a role in the pathogenesis of Peyronie's disease (PD), and this role could be particularly beneficial for developing new strategies; therefore, we aimed to investigate the role of IgG4 in PD.

Methods: This study included 3 groups with a total of 139 subjects: (I) PD group (n=61), (II) control group (n=48), and (III) benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) group (n=30). IgG4 measurement was performed using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.
