Synthesis, characterization, cytotoxic activity, and molecular docking of 3,4-diaminobenzophenone-CuhNFs and its major components-based nanoflowers.

In this study, organic-inorganic hybrid nanoflower (hNFs) synthesis was realized using 3,4-diaminobenzophenone and Cu(II) metal ions as organic and inorganic ingredients, respectively. The characterization of the synthesized hNFs was carried out using SEM, EDX, FT-IR, XRD, and elemental mapping. The cytotoxic effect of hNFs was investigated against A549 (lung) and MCF-7 (breast) cancer cell lines.

Analysis of depressions indicative of dural venous sinuses within the intracranial cavities of skull bases.

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the anatomical variations and morphometric characteristics of the sulci in the dural venous sinuses within the intracranial cavity, with a particular focus on sex differences and asymmetry.

Methods: Thirty fixed cadaveric heads were used to measure the dimensions (length, width, and depth) and spatial relationships of the dural venous sinus sulci within the intracranial cavity, including the distance to the midline, distance to each other, and lateral margin of the skull. Comparisons were made between sexes and sides of the body.

Does Cold Vapor Prevent Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting After Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy? A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of cold vapor on nausea and vomiting in the early postoperative period after laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Design: Randomized controlled study.

Methods: This study was carried out with 44 intervention and 44 control group patients who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy between May 2022 and December 2022.

: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the position of the humeral head relative to the glenoid and the occurrence of iatrogenic surgical neck fractures of the humerus during anterior glenohumeral dislocation reductions. : Patients with first-time anterior shoulder dislocations without generalized joint hyperlaxity were included. The humeral head displacement ratio was calculated as the distance between the medial border of the humeral head and the anterior glenoid rim divided by the diameter of the humeral head.

Immediate effects of soft tissue mobilization and percussive massage on balance in young adults with pes planus: A single blind, randomized controlled pilot study.

Background: Presence of pes planus is known to effect balance. In this study, it was aimed to examine the immediate effects of IASTM and PMT on static and dynamic balance in young adults with pes planus.

Invasive aspergillosis is a rare but severe fungal infection primarily affecting immunocompromised individuals. The Disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has introduced new complexities in managing aspergillosis due to the widespread use of corticosteroids for treating COVID-19-related respiratory distress, which can increase susceptibility to fungal infections. Here, we present a challenging case of progressive cerebral aspergillosis complicated by cavernous sinus thrombosis (CST) in a 67-year-old male with a history of COVID-19.

Clinical Characteristics and Management of Drug-Induced Lupus in Patients Receiving Tumor Necrosis Factor Inhibitor Therapy.

Introduction Drug-induced lupus (DIL) is an autoimmune condition triggered by exposure to certain medications, leading to the emergence of clinical features that resemble those of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This study aims to investigate the clinical characteristics, management strategies, and outcomes of patients who develop DIL during tumor necrosis factor inhibitor (TNFi) therapy. Methods We conducted a retrospective case series involving 15 patients who developed positive anti-double-stranded DNA (anti-dsDNA) antibodies while undergoing TNFi therapy between 2015 and 2023.

Sexually transmitted infections in sexually abused children: an audit project to implement PCR tests in a child advocacy center in Türkiye.

Background: Sexual abuse in children can sometimes result in sexually transmitted infections (STIs), which can serve as crucial forensic evidence. Although PCR methods are now accepted as the gold standard for STI screening, they have not yet widely replaced traditional culture methods in Türkiye. This study aims to assess the necessity of implementing PCR-based STI testing at Child Advocacy Centers in Türkiye, where such testing is not routinely available.

Achalasia is a rare esophageal motility disorder characterized by impaired relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) and absence of peristalsis, leading to significant swallowing difficulties and other symptoms. Traditional treatment options, including Heller myotomy (HM) and pneumatic dilation (PD), have been effective but are associated with risks such as perforation and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Defective kinase activity of IKKα leads to combined immunodeficiency and disruption of immune tolerance in humans.

IKKα is a multifunctional serine/threonine kinase that controls various biological processes, either dependent on or independent of its kinase activity. However, the importance of the kinase function of IKKα in human physiology remains unknown since no biallelic variants disrupting its kinase activity have been reported. In this study, we present a homozygous germline missense variant in the kinase domain of IKKα, which is present in three children from two Turkish families.

Molecular modeling and cytotoxic activity studies of oxirane-2-carboxylate derivatives.

In this study, five 3-aryloxirane-2-carboxylate derivatives were prepared, and the antiproliferative activities of molecules were screened in lung and colon cancer cell lines. The results showed that molecules had antiproliferative activity on cancerous cells with IC values under 100 µM. Furthermore, all of the molecules were found to have a much higher cytotoxic effect than cisplatin in colon cancer cells.

Synthesis of Tryptamine-Thiazolidin-4-one Derivatives and the Combined and Evaluation of their Biological Activity and Cytotoxicity.

Managing Urticarial Vasculitis: A Clinical Decision-Making Algorithm Based on Expert Consensus.

Urticarial vasculitis (UV) is a rare and difficult-to-treat, small-vessel leukocytoclastic vasculitis presenting with recurrent long-lasting wheals. So far, no guidelines and treatment algorithms exist that could help clinicians with the management of UV. In this review, we describe evidence on systemic treatments used for UV and propose a clinical decision-making algorithm for UV management based on the Urticarial Vasculitis Activity Score assessed for 7 days (UVAS7).

An international core outcome set for primary progressive aphasia (COS-PPA): Consensus-based recommendations for communication interventions across research and clinical settings.

Introduction: Interventions to treat speech-language difficulties in primary progressive aphasia (PPA) often use word accuracy as a highly comparable outcome. However, there are more constructs of importance to people with PPA that have received less attention.

Methods: Following Core Outcome Set Standards for Development Recommendations (COSSTAD), this study comprised: Stage 1 - systematic review to identify measures; Stage 2 - consensus groups to identify important outcome constructs for people with PPA (n = 82) and care partners (n = 91); Stage 3 - e-Delphi consensus with 57 researchers.

High Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index Values Before Treatment Predict Poor Pancreatic Cancer Outcomes After Definitive Chemoradiotherapy.

Background: The systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) is an effective tool for predicting the prognosis of patients with cancer. However, its value in patients with locally advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (LA-PDAC) undergoing definitive chemoradiotherapy has yet to be addressed. Therefore, we aimed to retrospectively investigate the prognostic significance of the pretreatment SII on the survival outcomes of patients with unresectable LA-PDAC treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy (C-CRT).

Biohybrid devices that generate an electrical signal under the influence of light due to photochemical reactions in photosynthetic pigment-protein complexes have many prospects. On the one hand, the oxygen-evolving complex of photosystem II allows the use of ubiquitous water as a source of electrons for photoinduced electron transfer in such devices; on the other hand, it is the most vulnerable part of the photosynthetic apparatus. From the perspective of sustainable operation of bio-based hybrid devices, it is helpful to analyze how removing or modifying the Mn cluster will affect the performance of the bio-hybrid device.
