Purpose: To assess the value of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) and contrast-enhanced MRI (CE-MRI) for differentiation between benign and malignant solid renal masses, renal cell carcinoma (RCC) subtypes, oncocytomas, and lipid-poor angiomyolipomas (LP-AML).

Methods: Minimum or lowest 'apparent diffusion coefficient' (ADC) and representative ADC values (ADC) of 112 renal masses (n: 46 benign renal mass, n: 66 malignant renal mass) were measured on DW-MRI images (b 50, 400, 800 s/mm). Signal intensity (SI) measurements were performed in normal renal parenchyma and most avid enhanced area of the renal masses at precontrast, corticomedullary, and nephrographic phases on CE-MRI.

Objective: This study was designed to investigate the impact of using suture material impregnated with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in different platelet concentrations on colonic anastomotic wound healing in rats.

Methods: A total of 24 Sprague Dawley female rats were separated into 3 groups ( = 8 for each) including the control group (CON; standard vicryl suture repair), the low platelet concentrate PRP group (L-PRP; suture material impregnated with PRP containing average 2.7-fold (range, 2.

Breast cancer remains as a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in women. Ultrastructural and biochemical evidence from breast biopsy tissue and cancer cells shows mitochondrial abnormalities that are incompatible with energy production through oxidative phosphorylation (OxPhos). Consequently, breast cancer, like most cancers, will become more reliant on substrate level phosphorylation (fermentation) than on oxidative phosphorylation (OxPhos) for growth consistent with the mitochondrial metabolic theory of cancer.

Dermatologic changes occur in a variety of rheumatic diseases. Skin can be the initial site of involvement, thus providing important clues for an accurate diagnosis based on cutaneous findings. Dermatologic findings can also be an indicator of systemic involvement and prognostic outcome; however, many connective tissue disorders have a wide variety of cutaneous manifestations, with significant overlap between different diseases.

Purpose: We aimed to determine the contribution of the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value in the detection of axillary lymph node metastasis.

Material And Methods: Breast magnetic resonance of 58 patients, performed in the radiology clinic of our hospital between 2015 and 2017 were examined retrospectively, and 43 lymph nodes in 43 patients were included in the study. They were evaluated morphologically on T1W and T2W sequences, and the lymph nodes showing rounded shape, focal or diffuse cortical thickness of more than 3 mm, and partial or total effacement of fatty hilum were included in the study.

Radix saw: a useful tool for rhinoplasty to correct high radix.

Braz J Otorhinolaryngol

February 2021

Private Office, Frankfurt, Germany.

Introduction: The most difficult aspect of radix lowering is determining the maximum amount of bone that can be removed with osteotomes; here, we describe use of a radix saw, which is a new tool for determining this amount.

Objective: In this study, we describe use of a radix saw, which is a new tool to reduce the radix.

Methods: The medical charts of 96 patients undergoing surgery to lower a high radix between 2016 and 2017 were assessed retrospectively.

Comparison of Routine and Computer-Guided Glucose Management for Glycemic Control in Critically Ill Patients.

Crit Care Nurse

August 2019

Ozlem Canbolat is an assistant professor, Faculty of Nursing, Necmettin Erbakan University, Selçuklu, Konya, Turkey. Sevgisun Kapucu is a professor, Faculty of Nursing, Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey. Oguz Kilickaya is an associate professor, Bahcelievler Medical Park Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey.

Background: Glycemic control is crucial for reducing morbidity and mortality in critically ill patients. A standardized approach to glycemic control using a computer-guided protocol may help maintain blood glucose level within a target range and prevent human-induced medical errors.

Objective: To determine the effectiveness of a computer-guided glucose management protocol for glycemic control in intensive care patients.

Objective: Steroid-resistant acute graft-versus-host disease (srAGVHD) is the most important cause of morbidity and mortality after allogeneic stem cell transplantation. There are several treatment methods available, including mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) application. The aim of this study was to evaluate the results of MSC therapy performed in children with srAGVHD.

Congenital aneurysm of the ascending aorta is a rare cardiovascular pathology and usually associated with well-known connective tissue disorders. We present an idiopathic ascending aortic aneurysm extending to the aortic arch in an antenatally diagnosed newborn who required immediate surgical treatment due to the rapid progression of aneurysm size at the age of 1 day.

Cutting the Holy Dome: The Evolution of Vertical Alar Resection.

Aesthetic Plast Surg

February 2018

Faculty of Medicine, Bahçelievler Medical Park Hospital, Otorhinolaryngology İstanbul, İstanbul Kemerburgaz University, TR, Istanbul, Turkey.

Introduction: Dome division or vertical dome division (VDD) is a tip plasty technique that is effective when applied appropriately to suitable patients. For 15 years, we have used VDD and made modifications as needed. In classical VDD, the dome area is cut and left to heal, but experience shows that additional components are needed to complement dome division, such as sutures or grafts.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is more aggressive and metastatic than other breast cancer types. Cytotoxic chemotherapy is presently the predominant systemic therapy for TNBC patients. This case report highlights the influence of metabolically supported chemotherapy (MSCT), ketogenic diet (KD), hyperthermia (HT), and hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) in an overweight 29-year-old woman with stage IV (T4N3M1) triple-negative invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast.

Mechanical Thrombectomy with Rotarex System in Buerger's Disease.

J Clin Imaging Sci

April 2015

Department of Interventional Radiology, Bahcelievler Medical Park Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey.

We report the case of a patient with 2-month history of chronic thromboembolism of the distal superficial femoral and popliteal arteries with diagnostic features of thromboangiitis obliterans disease. The occlusion could not be crossed by antegrade approach and was achieved retrogradely via dorsalis pedis artery puncture followed by mechanical removal of the thrombus with Rotarex system (Straub Medical AG, Wangs, Switzerland). Subsequent ballooon angioplasties achieved exclusion of the thrombus, and straight-line flow established to the foot through the anterior tibial Artery.

Acute multicoronary occlusion is an extremely rare clinical and angiographic finding. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are extremely important. Herein, we present a 38-year-old man suffering from concomitant anterior and inferior myocardial infarctions due to simultaneous total occlusion of both the left anterior descending and right coronary arteries.

Coronary artery bypass grafting is one of the routine daily surgical procedures in the current era. Parallel to the increasing life expectancy, cardiac surgery is commonly performed in octogenarians. However, literature consists of only seldom reports of coronary artery bypass grafting in patients above 90 years of age.

Cardiac re-operations are associated with increased morbidity and mortality rates due to adhesion of tissues in the anterior mediastinum. Especially, previous usage of left internal thoracic artery constitutes a major challenge for cardiovascular surgeons. In such cases, the left lung frequently adheres to the thoracic wall and may be injured during dissection.
