Emerging hypotheses in the pathophysiology of major depressive disorder (MDD) suggest important role of neurotrophic factors and oxidative stress. This study assessed the effect of milnacipran (a dual serotonin‑noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor) on brain‑derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and oxidative stress biomarkers i.e.

Background The diverse manifestations of urolithiasis provide very interesting epidemiological data. This has prompted various studies to look into the etiopathogenesis of renal stones, which is believed to be multifactorial, both exogenous and endogenous. VDR Fok1 is a risk factor for renal stone formation and could cause the formation of renal stones through the mechanism of crystal induction and crystallization in the urine.

Introduction: The world is experiencing a pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by SARS-CoV-2. The prescription of a superfluity of unnecessary antibiotics without regard for the potential for increased antimicrobial resistances is extensive and unimpeded during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Aims: To compare the microorganisms and the pattern of antimicrobial resistance of bacteremia during the first and second waves of the COVID-19 pandemic in a tertiary care hospital.

Medical devices and materials commonly used in management of common gynecological conditions or during surgical procedures may present with acute or chronic complications due to incorrect application, improper use and lack of follow up. We present two interesting cases highlighting this problem. A strong index of suspicion is very crucial in early diagnosis and successful management.

Introduction: We conducted basic hands-on training in oxygen therapy and ventilatory management of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) patients to health care workers (HCWs) at our tertiary care hospital. We designed this study aiming to find out the impact of hands-on training in oxygen therapy for COVID-19 patients on the knowledge and degree of retention of this gained knowledge 6 weeks after the training session among HCWs.
Materials And Methods: The study was conducted after obtaining approval from the Institutional Ethics Committee.

Background: Cholinesterase inhibitors, such as neostigmine and edrophonium, commonly used to reverse the residual effects of nondepolarizing neuromuscular blocking drugs at the end of surgery are associated with a high rate of residual neuromuscular blockade (NMB). Due to its direct mechanism of action, sugammadex is associated with rapid and predictable reversal of deep NMB. The current analysis compares the clinical efficacy and risk of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) on using sugammadex or neostigmine for routine NMB reversal in adult and pediatric populations.

Objective: To quantify the reduction in wound size and change in wound quality following low-cost topical oxygen therapy (TOT) in patients with acute traumatic musculoskeletal wounds of the foot and ankle.
Method: This prospective interventional study included patients with acute traumatic musculoskeletal wounds of the foot and ankle of <3 weeks' duration after they had undergone debridement and required subsequent wound coverage. A sterile C-Arm cover was used to cover the wound and 100% oxygen was administered at 1 atm, at a rate of 10l/min for 90 minutes on each of four consecutive days, through a suction catheter connected to an oxygen cylinder.

Background: It has been established that identity of the trial leadership plays a role in the conduct of the trial. An estimation of the gender composition of RCT leadership in India has not been undertaken. We performed this study to quantify the gender composition of first authors of RCTs published from India for the years 2011 to 2020.

Here, we evaluated the efficacy of the NFIS and needle injection system (NIS) for the delivery and immunogenicity of DNA vaccine candidate ZyCoV-D in rhesus macaques against SARS-CoV-2 infection. Briefly, 20 rhesus macaques were divided into 5 groups (4 animals each), that is, I (1 mg dose by NIS), II (2 mg dose by NIS), III (1 mg dose by NFIS), IV (2 mg dose by NFIS) and V (phosphate-buffer saline [PBS]).

Rhino-orbital cerebral mucor mycosis is a rare disease entity, where retinal involvement is described in the literature mostly as CRAO. However, pathological studies have shown mucor invading the choroid and retina with a neutrophilic reaction. So, it is pertinent that retinal inflammation secondary to invading mucor has some role in microstructural changes seen in the vitreous and retina of these patients.
