Background/aim: Appendiceal neuroendocrine tumors (ANETs) are the most prevalent type of appendiceal neoplasm and the fifth most common neuroendocrine tumor in the gastrointestinal tract. In this study, we described the clinicopathological features of patients with ANET.

Patients And Methods: We reviewed the clinicopathological findings and histopathological reports of six patients diagnosed with ANET between January 2014 and December 2023 at Korea University Medical Center, Anam Hospital.

Routine Elastic Staining Helps Detection of Vascular Invasion in Colorectal Cancer: A Comprehensive Analysis of T3 or Higher Tumors Without Lymph Node Metastasis.

Background/aim: Vascular invasion (VI) in colorectal carcinoma (CRC) is an independent prognostic feature and a high-risk indicator for adjuvant chemotherapy in stage II CRC. This study evaluated the effect of elastic staining on VI detection.

Patients And Methods: The VI was assessed using elastic staining in 154 patients with CRC.

Malignant Transformation in a Mature Cystic Teratoma of the Ovary: A 5-year Descriptive Study.

Background And Objective: Malignant transformation (MT) in mature cystic teratoma of the ovary (MCTO) is rare. This descriptive study primarily aims to determine the prevalence rate of MT in MCTO and describe clinicopathologic features, management, and prognosis of patients who developed this rare type of tumor and likewise deliver a review in the light of recent literature.

Methods: This is a descriptive observational study of 22 patients with MT in MCTO at a Level 3 Tertiary Public Hospital in Baguio City, Philippines.

A Case Report of Inferior Oblique Reattachment after Inferomedial Orbital Wall Reconstruction from Total Maxillectomy.

The detachment and reattachment of inferior oblique (IO) have been done by ophthalmologists in inferomedial orbital wall fracture repair to avoid inducing a new diplopia in patients post-operatively. However, doing them in orbital wall reconstruction in patient who underwent maxillectomy for a malignancy has not been described yet. We describe a case where a disinserted inferior oblique was reattached after titanium mesh implantation to prevent diplopia after the surgery.

A Case Report of a Filipino Boy with Childhood Cataract and Clinically Diagnosed Roberts Syndrome.

Childhood cataract is a common cause of visual impairment. Familial types are uncommon among Filipinos. Aim: To provide a comprehensive and more representative national data on the disease, especially on treatment options and outcomes, and to determine access of retinoblastoma patients from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao to eye care, and determine if access is associated with delay in consultation, staging and outcomes.

Methods: Cohort study of retinoblastoma patients seen in eleven institutions located in the three major areas of the Philippines namely Luzon, Vizayas and Mindanao from 2010-2020.

Results: Totally 636 patients, involving 821 eyes, were included.

We aim to present a confirmed COVID-19 case presenting with both neurologic and cardiac manifestations.

An initial assessment of the readiness of these adolescents is fundamental in providing appropriate health services for them. Isolated Pupillary-sparing Cranial Nerve III Palsy from a Subgaleal Abscess.

Cranial nerve (CN) III palsy is rarely caused by intraorbital compression, let alone from a subgaleal abscess. We present a case of a hypertensive 55-year-old man with an acute isolated pupillary-sparing left CN III palsy from a left subgaleal abscess with associated pterional osteomyelitis and frontotemporal mass. This is the first reported such case and the third reported case of a chronic spontaneous subgaleal abscess.

Case 1 was an elderly male who experienced chills during two concurrent dialysis sessions.

Outcomes of Filipinos with inflammatory rheumatic diseases developing COVID-19 prior to vaccinations and new variants: a historical perspective.

We described the profile and outcome of Filipino patients with inflammatory rheumatic diseases (IRDs) who developed COVID-19 (IRD-C19) during the onset of the pandemic, prior to vaccinations and variants. We obtained de-identified data of Filipino patients with IRD-C19 from the Global Rheumatology Alliance registry from March 2020 to August 2021. Descriptive statistics and multivariate analyses were applied.

Symmetry of the Vermillion Height after Modified Rotation-Advancement Cheiloplasty.

(1) Background: This study aimed to determine the postoperative vermillion symmetry between the cleft and non-cleft sides of patients with unilateral cleft lip during the early and late postoperative periods. (2) Methods: 57 patients with complete and 38 with incomplete unilateral cleft lips operated on between 2010 and 2014 were retrospectively evaluated within 1 month (T1), 9 months to 1 ½ years (T2), and more than 4 years (T3). Vermilion heights of the cleft and non-cleft sides were measured from frontal photographs.

Double mutant GLI family zinc finger Gli2; Gli3 murine model of stress incontinence has been recently developed as a reliable model which does not require surgical manipulation to create incontinence and is shown to survive to adulthood. The aim of this study was to establish the etiology of incontinence in the double mutant Gli2; Gli3 mice.

Obstetric outcomes in women with rheumatic disease and COVID-19 in the context of vaccination status.

Objective: To describe obstetric outcomes based on COVID-19 vaccination status, in women with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs) who developed COVID-19 during pregnancy.

Methods: Data regarding pregnant women entered into the COVID-19 Global Rheumatology Alliance registry from 24 March 2020-25 February 2022 were analysed. Obstetric outcomes were stratified by number of COVID-19 vaccine doses received prior to COVID-19 infection in pregnancy.

Objective: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 
(SARS-CoV-2), primarily targets the respiratory system. This study describes the characteristics associated with mortality among patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 at a single hospital in Baguio City, Philippines.

Methods: We reviewed medical records (including history, laboratory results and treatment regimen) of 280 confirmed COVID-19 patients admitted to a single hospital during March-October 2020.

Mental health and well-being of children in the Philippine setting during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has subjected the mental health and well-being of Filipino children under drastic conditions. While children are more vulnerable to these detriments, there remains the absence of unified and comprehensive strategies in mitigating the deterioration of the mental health of Filipino children. Existing interventions focus on more general solutions that fail to acknowledge the circumstances that a Filipino child is subjected under.
