The effects of cysteine (Cys) and l-methionine (l-Met) on copper corrosion inhibition were examined in 1 M HNO solution for short and long exposure times. Potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used. The EIS determined the potential for zero charges of copper (PZC) in the inhibitor solution.

For the purpose of evaluating the local heritage of eastern Numidia, an ethnobotanical survey was conducted on a population located in the province (department) of El-Tarf (North-East of Algeria) on a frequency of use of two plants known in traditional health; Eucalyptus globulus (Myrtaceae) and Rosmarinus officinalis (Lamiaceae). After processing data, our results show a female dominance when using these plants on a fairly advanced age group (40 to 60 years old). These plants are used by the people at their fresh state and deem the leaf as the most used part for therapeutic and cosmetic purposes.

Applied Neuroendocrinology Laboratory, Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, Badji Mokhtar Annaba University, Algeria.

Several studies have demonstrated that depression include disruptions not only for mental human disorders but also their healthy living. Rodent-based behavioral tests and models are widely used to understand the mechanisms by which stress triggers anxiety-related behaviors. This present study examined the evidence of a chronic restraint stress (CRS) paradigm in male Wistar rats for the progressive nature of depression alongside with related changes in behavior and functions.

A novel fiber-optic vector magnetic field sensor and its sensing quality dependent of fabrication method has been proposed and investigated. The proposed sensor has two surfaces on the tip of a multimode fiber, which is used as the sensing probe. By plating different thickness of gold film on the surfaces, surface plasmon resonance (SPR) can be generated and the signal can be reflected by the surfaces as well.

Herein, we report for the first time the highly regio- and enantioselective ring opening of a biobased itaconic anhydride catalyzed by the lipase () in -butyl methyl ether (TBME) at room temperature. This method is easy, efficient and eco-friendly and can be performed in one step with a series of highly valuable monoester itaconates (achiral or enantioenriched) using various alcohols as nucleophiles with 100% atom economy. In all cases, the β-monoester isomer was the predominant product of the reaction.

June 2022

Department of Chemistry, Laboratory of Applied Organic Chemistry, Synthesis of Biomolecules and Molecular Modelling Group, Sciences Faculty, Badji-Mokhtar-Annaba University, Box 12, Annaba 23000, Algeria.

A new series of sulfamoyloxyoxazolidinone (SOO) derivatives have been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, NMR, IR, MS and EA. Chemical reactivity and geometrical characteristics of the target compounds were investigated using DFT method. The possible binding mode between SOO and Main protease (Mpro) of SARS-CoV-2 and their reactivity were studied using molecular docking simulation.

An array of computational approaches DFT/QSAR/POM methods has been used for a better understanding of drug properties regarding 13 inhibitor derivatives containing either P2 cyclopentane P1 carboxylic acid moiety () or a P1 cyclopropyl acyl sulfonamide (). To further recognize binding interactions and their activity trends, molecular docking studies were carried out with the use of HCV, which can be used to accurately predict the interactions of ligands with the receptor. The QSAR models are developed through the use of Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) together with Principal Component Analysis (PCA) methods.

The present paper introduces a novel semi-empirical technique for the determination of active bubbles' number in sonicated solutions. This method links the chemistry of a single bubble to that taking place over the whole sonochemical reactor (solution). The probe compound is CCl, where its eliminated amount within a single bubble (though pyrolysis) is determined via a cavitation model which takes into account the non-equilibrium condensation/evaporation of water vapor and heat exchange across the bubble wall, reactions heats and liquid compressibility and viscosity, all along the bubble oscillation under the temporal perturbation of the ultrasonic wave.

The self-compacting concrete (SCC) mix design is much more complex than that of ordinary concrete. Increased testing on fresh concrete and a substantial volume of materials is consequently needed. The concrete equivalent mortar (CEM) method proposes an approach that simplifies and speeds up the experimental testing programmes.

Depressive anxiety is one of the most emotional disorders in our industrial societies. Many treatments of phobias exist and are based on plant extracts therapies, which play an important role in the amelioration of the behavior. Our study aimed to evaluate the adaptogenic activity of different essential oils provided from local plants: Cinnamomum camphora (Camphora), Eucalyptus globulus (Blue gum), Lavandula stœchas (Topped lavender) and Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) on Wistar rats.

The way COVID-19 transforms our sexual lives.

Int J Impot Res

March 2022

Laboratory of Applied Neuro-Endocrinology, Badji-Mokhtar University, Annaba, Algeria.

During the early stages of the outbreak, insufficient attention was paid to the impact on sexual function, which is logical in the face of potentially harmful and fatal infections. It is well documented that any close contact (6 feet or 2 m) with an infected person can result in exposure to SARS-CoV-2 so while coronavirus disease: (COVID-19) may not be "sexually transmitted" (through semen or vaginal fluids) the risks of proximal exposure are great-whether the activity is engaged in is sexual or not. For the last 3-4 months, scientific studies have shown that a mild or severe coronavirus infection can lead to sexual complications and prolonged libido problems as well as erectile dysfunction.

November 2021

Laboratory of Organic Synthesis, Modeling and Optimization of Chemical Processes, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Sciences, Badji Mokhtar-Annaba University, BP 12, 23000 Annaba, Algeria.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on creating new antimicrobial agents by synthesizing novel α-aminophosphonates with quinoline and thiazole groups using the Kabachnik-Fields reaction and ultrasound.
  • Many of these new compounds were effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, with some showing particularly good antifungal activity.
  • The research indicated that specific functional groups in these compounds, like coumarylthiazole and hydroxyl in the quinoline, enhanced their effectiveness against microbial pathogens, suggesting they could be viable candidates for new antibiotic drugs.

A Novel Energy-from-Waste Approach for Electrical Energy Production by Galvano-Fenton Process.

Molecules

June 2021

Laboratoire Ampère, École Centrale de Lyon, 36 Avenue Guy de Collongue, 69134 Ecully, France.

A novel approach allowing the production of electrical energy by an advanced oxidation process is proposed to eliminate organic micropollutants (MPs) in wastewaters. This approach is based on associating the Galvano-Fenton process to the generation of electrical power. In the previous studies describing the Galvano-Fenton (GF) process, iron was directly coupled to a metal of more positive potential to ensure degradation of organic pollutants without any possibility of producing electrical energy.

The goal of this work is to protect as much as possible the images exchanged in telemedicine, to avoid any confusion between the patient's radiographs, these images are watermarked with the patient's information as well as the acquisition data. Thus, during the extraction, the doctor will be able to affirm with certainty that the images belong to the treated patient. The ultimate goal of our completed work is to properly integrate the watermark with as little distortion as possible to typically retain the medical information in the image.
