Introduction: Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PJP) is a well-known and frequent opportunistic infection in HIV patients. However, there has been an increase in the number of reports of PJP in other immunosuppressed patients with autoimmune inflammatory disorders or because of chemotherapy and high doses of steroids, especially when used in combination as part of immunosuppressive therapy.
Objective: Despite the increasing importance of PJP in non-HIV patients, there is a lack of comprehensive and updated information on the epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, microbiology, treatments, and prophylaxis of this infection in this population.

An interferon λ4 gene (IFNL4) knockout allele (rs368234815; TT) is associated with spontaneous and IFN-α-dependent cure of hepatitis C virus infection. The role of this polymorphism in the susceptibility to human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection is controversial. This study aimed to assess the association of this knockout IFNL4 variant and sexually transmitted HIV-1 infection.

Background: Chagas Disease caused by Trypanosoma cruzi infection, is one of the most important neglected tropical diseases (NTD), without an effective therapy for the successful parasite eradication or for the blocking of the disease's progression, in its advanced stages. Due to their low toxicity, wide pharmacologic spectrum, and potential synergies, medicinal plants as Lippia alba, offer a promising reserve of bioactive molecules. The principal goal of this work is to characterize the inhibitory properties and cellular effects of the Citral and Carvone L.

The NB327 mutant strain is characterized for the knockdown of the gene. The gene is homologous to the gene in humans, encoding the protein DICE-1 as a tumor suppressor. Absence or under-regulation of the gene can be reflected in lung and prostate cancer [17], [18].

Introduction: Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is an increasing cause of morbidity and mortality in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected individuals. HIV-positive patients are commonly co-infected with HBV due to shared routes of transmission.
Objectives: Our aim was to determine the risk factors, prevalence, genotypes, and mutations of the Surface S gene of HBV, and occult hepatitis B infection (OBI) among patients infected with HIV in a northeastern Colombian city.
