Coherent diffractive imaging experiments often collect incomplete datasets containing regions that lack any measurements. These regions can arise because of beamstops, gaps between detectors, or, in tomography experiments, a missing wedge of data due to a limited sample rotation range. We describe practical and effective approaches to mitigate reconstruction artifacts by bringing uniqueness back to the phase retrieval problem.

The tropical archipelago of Wallacea was first settled by anatomically modern humans (AMH) by 50 thousand years ago (kya), with descendent populations thought to have remained genetically isolated prior to the arrival of Austronesian seafarers around 3.5 kya. Modern Wallaceans exhibit a longitudinal countergradient of Papuan- and Asian-related ancestries widely considered as evidence for mixing between local populations and Austronesian seafarers, though converging multidisciplinary evidence suggests that the Papuan-related component instead comes primarily from back-migrations from New Guinea.

As spontaneous renal artery dissection (SRAD) is a rare cause of abdominal pain, bilateral dissection is an extremely rare event. Only approximately two hundred cases of SRAD have been reported in the literature. The diagnosis is often delayed due to the rarity of the disease and non-specific clinical presentations such as flank pain, hypertension, fever, nausea, vomiting, and hematuria, which can be often misdiagnosed as a genito-urinary infection or gastrointestinal or bowel disease.

The lunotriquetral intercarpal ligament (LTIL) is an important structure that equalizes the forces on the lunate imparted through the scapholunate intercarpal ligament. The extension moment of the triquetrum balances the flexion force of the scaphoid, positioning the lunate for efficient load transfer from the hand to the wrist. In contrast to the scapholunate intercarpal ligament, the LTIL is strongest volarly, with the most critical region being associated with the volar ulnocapitate ligament.

The latissimus dorsi muscle or myocutaneous flap (LDMF) has long been a mainstay in the plastic surgeon's armamentarium, serving as a versatile and reliable tool for reconstructive procedures. Tunneling the LDMF through the subscapular route increases the reach to cover defects as far as nape of the neck. In this article, we report a case of LDMF routed through a subscapular route to cover impending hardware exposure at the nape region.

Microbial natural products-low molecular weight compounds biosynthesized by microorganisms-form the foundation of important modern therapeutics, including antibiotics, immunomodulators, and anti-cancer agents. This perspective discusses and contrasts two emerging approaches for uncovering natural products of the past. On the one hand, ancestral sequence reconstruction allows recreating biosynthetic pathways that date back hundreds of millions of years.

This study assessed the accuracy and reliability of artificial intelligence (AI)-reconstructed images of two-dimensional (2D) lateral cephalometric analyses of facial computed tomography (CT) images, which is widely used for the diagnosis of craniofacial deformities and in the planning of their treatment. Facial CT datasets from 40 patients were collected. Original 1 mm slices were reformatted to 3 mm, and then an AI algorithm reconstructed the 3 mm slices and converted them back to 1 mm to generate lateral cephalometric images.

Background: Plagiocephaly, wherein infants' head exhibits a diagonal asymmetry, is currently diagnosed based on physicians' subjective judgment. Discrepancies between physician and parent perspectives may result in dissatisfaction with treatment outcomes. This problem highlights the need for an objective assessment system aligning with physician-made clinical diagnoses.

Craniosynostosis is the premature fusion of one or more skull vault sutures, most commonly the sagittal sutures, leading to a long, narrow head shape known as scaphocephaly. Surgery is recommended to create space for brain growth to treat scaphocephaly. Delayed treatment may require more complex surgery to achieve the desired head shape.

Forecasting trends in disease and injury burden is not only crucial for policy makers but also garners substantial interest from the general populace and leads to a better-informed public. Through the integration of new data sources, the refinement of methodologies, and the inclusion of additional causes, we have improved our previous forecasting efforts within the scope of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) to produce forecasts at the state and national levels for the USA under various possible scenarios.

Purpose: We characterize the flying focal spot (FFS) technology in digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT), designed to overcome source motion blurring.
Approach: A wide-angle DBT system with continuous gantry and focus motion ("uncompensated focus") and a system with FFS were compared for image sharpness and lesion detectability. The modulation transfer function (MTF) was assessed as a function of height in the projections and reconstructed images, along with lesion detectability using the contrast detail phantom for mammography (CDMAM) and the L1 phantom.

We study numerically and experimentally the second-harmonic generation (SHG) from rectangular metagratings of V-shaped gold nanoantennas. We show that by carefully engineering the array pitch to steer the diffraction orders toward the single antenna emission, the extracted signal is maximized. This enhancement is attributed to the angular overlap between the radiation pattern and array factor and is comparable to the improvement yielded by the coupling of surface lattice resonances (SLRs) with local modes.

The naturally sluggish redox kinetics and limited utilization associated with the sulfur conversion in Zn/S electrochemistry hinder its real application. Herein, we report an phase reconstruction strategy that activates the catalytic activity of vanadium oxides for invoking redox-catalysis to manipulate reversible sulfur conversion. It was identified that the VO@C/S precursor derived from metal organic frameworks could be transformed into VO ·HO@C/S by a facile electrochemical induction process.

Background: In patients with pancreaticobiliary maljunction complicated by congenital biliary dilatation, the pancreatic enzyme flows back into the bile, leading to bile duct carcinogenesis. Although the biliary tract resection and reconstruction is well documented to decrease the rate of malignancy, cancer occurrence has been reported in the residual intrahepatic or intrapancreatic bile duct, even after resection. We report a case of multiple biliary tract cancers in the liver complicated by congenital biliary dilatation, whose tumor lesions were resected en bloc without disconnecting the biliary tract by simultaneous pancreatoduodenectomy and living donor liver transplantation.
