The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) shock classification has been shown to predict mortality in acute myocardial infarction (AMI). However, data on the transition of SCAI stages and their association with mortality after AMI are limited. All patients with AMI admitted to Vietnam National Heart Institute between August 2022 and February 2023 were classified into SCAI stages A, B, and C/D/E at admission and were reevaluated in 24 hours.

Leptin and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) are two extensively studied biomarkers associated with metabolic syndrome (MetS) and osteoarthritis (OA). Previous studies have mostly focused on either MetS or OA alone, with no available data on Vietnamese patients. This study aimed to investigate the levels of leptin and IL-1β in this patient population and explore their association with clinical parameters of MetS and OA.

A woman in her 40s went to the hospital due to persistent headaches. On physical examination, a diastolic murmur in the third sternal intercostal space was the only finding. Echocardiograms were performed, revealing moderate aortic regurgitation and heterogeneously echoreflectant masses of variable shape with no independent mobility, mainly located on the ventricular side of the coaptation point of the three aortic cusps.

December 2023

Merck Specialities Pvt. Ltd., India, an affiliate of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany.

Objective: This Delphi method of consensus was designed to develop scientific statements for β-blockers in the continuum of cardiovascular diseases with a special focus on the role of bisoprolol.

Methods: Eleven experienced cardiologists from across the Asia-Pacific countries participated in two rounds of the survey. In the first round, experts were asked to rate agreement/disagreement with 35 statements across seven domains regarding the use of β-blockers for treating hypertension, heart failure, coronary artery diseases, co-morbidities, as well as their safety profile, usage pattern, and pharmacokinetic variability.

The kisspeptin-1 receptor antagonist peptide-234 aggravates uremic cardiomyopathy in a rat model.

Sci Rep

August 2023

Department of Biochemistry and Interdisciplinary Centre of Excellence, Albert Szent-Györgyi Medical School, University of Szeged, 6720, Szeged, Hungary.

Uremic cardiomyopathy is characterized by diastolic dysfunction, left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), and fibrosis. Dysregulation of the kisspeptin receptor (KISS1R)-mediated pathways are associated with the development of fibrosis in cancerous diseases. Here, we investigated the effects of the KISS1R antagonist peptide-234 (P234) on the development of uremic cardiomyopathy.

Background: Evaluating the prognosis of patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) who may be at risk of poor outcomes using grading systems is one way to make a better decision on treatment for these patients. This study aimed to compare the accuracy of the modified World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS), WFNS, and Hunt and Hess (H&H) Grading Scales in predicting the outcomes of patients with aSAH.

Methods: From August 2019 to June 2021, we conducted a multicenter prospective cohort study on adult patients with aSAH in three central hospitals in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Article Synopsis
  • A retrospective study evaluated a deep learning AI tool for detecting prostate cancer and grading its severity in biopsy samples, aiming to streamline the time-consuming process of analyzing prostate biopsies.
  • The study involved analyzing 5 external patient cohorts, using a total of 5922 tissue sections, and demonstrated the AI's ability to accurately detect tumor presence that some pathologists missed, achieving high sensitivity and specificity scores.
  • The AI tool showed comparable accuracy to experienced pathologists in Gleason grading, indicating its potential as a reliable assistant in prostate cancer diagnosis and assessment.

Background/purpose: To develop a prediction model for emergency medical technicians (EMTs) to identify trauma patients at high risk of deterioration to emergency medical service (EMS)-witnessed traumatic cardiac arrest (TCA) on the scene or en route.

Methods: We developed a prediction model using the classical cross-validation method from the Pan-Asia Trauma Outcomes Study (PATOS) database from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2020. Eligible patients aged ≥18 years were transported to the hospital by the EMS.

Purpose: To evaluate the impact of early rehabilitation in intensive care unit (ICU) on the survival and functional outcomes of COVID-19 patients admitted to ICU at acute phase.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a prospective quasi-experimental study including 346 eligible COVID-19 patients from all admitted cases in an ICU in Vietnam, divided into three groups: no rehabilitation ( = 32), late rehabilitation ( = 109), and early rehabilitation ( = 205). Baseline characteristics and survival information of patient were collected with BORG-CR10 scale and PFIT; the data were collected at different time points: before intervention, when switching to oxygen-therapy, and at discharge.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most prevalent histological type of lung cancer and the leading cause of death globally. Patients with NSCLC have a poor prognosis for various factors, and a late diagnosis is one of them. The DNA methylation of CpG island sequences found in the promoter regions of tumor suppressor genes has recently received attention as a potential biomarker of human cancer.
