Clinical utility of procalcitonin in implementation of procalcitonin-guided antibiotic stewardship in the South-East Asia and India: evidence and consensus-based recommendations.

Introduction: The South-East Asian (SEA) region and India are highly susceptible to antibiotic resistance, which is caused due to lack of antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) knowledge, uncontrolled use of antibiotics, and poor infection control. Nonadherence to national/local guidelines, developed to combat antimicrobial resistance, is a major concern. A virtual advisory board was conducted to understand the current AMS standards and challenges in its implementation in these regions.

Relationship between BMI and prognosis of chronic heart failure outpatients in Vietnam: a single-center study.

Background: Insufficient data exists regarding the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and the prognosis of chronic heart failure (CHF) specifically within low- and middle-income Asian countries. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of BMI on adverse outcomes of ambulatory patients with CHF in Vietnam.

Methods: Between 2018 and 2020, we prospectively enrolled consecutive outpatients with clinically stable CHF in an observational cohort, single-center study.

A case report of Cronkhite-Canada syndrome first encounterd at a hospital in northern Vietnam.

Introduction And Importance: Cronkhite-Canada syndrome (CCS) is an extremely rare non-inherited syndrome first described in 1955 with only about 500 more cases reported so far. Since the aetiology of the disease remains unknown, there were no specific treatments in consensus. In many countries, CCS is a completely new condition that may confuse physicians at first encounter.

Outcomes of pregnant women hospitalized with unrepaired congenital heart disease: Insights from a multidisciplinary center in Vietnam.

Background: In developing countries, fewer women have access to multidisciplinary congenital heart disease and reproductive programs staffed by experts. We report pregnancy outcomes of a multidisciplinary healthcare strategy utilizing an in-hospital teamwork approach in Vietnam.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included pregnant women with unrepaired congenital heart disease managed at a referral cardiovascular center.

Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS) Syndrome and Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) are severe cutaneous adverse reactions to drugs. Those reactions which are rare in children can be especially severe and challenging to diagnose and manage. Herein we present a 59-month-old male who presented with a rash, fever, and multiple organ dysfunction initiation of Phenobarbital for epilepsy.

Pancreaticoduodenectomy with superior mesenteric artery first-approach combined total meso-pancreas excision for periampullary malignancies: A high-volume single-center experience with short-term outcomes.

Backgrounds/aims: Pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) is the only radical treatment for periampullary malignancies. Superior mesenteric artery (SMA) first approach combined with total meso-pancreas (MP) excision was conducted to improve the oncological results. There has not been any previous research of a technique that combines the SMA first approach and total MP excision with a detailed description of the MP macroscopical shape.

2-year survival estimation for decompensated cirrhosis patients of prognostic scoring systems.

Objective: Prognostic models proposed for cirrhotic patients' survival have not been satisfactorily investigated in the Vietnam population, especially in the medium-term period.

Patients And Methods: In this prospective study, we enrolled a total of 904 patients admitted to Hepato-Gastroenterology Center, Bach Mai Hospital from December 2019 to November 2021 and calculated their CP, MELD, MELD-Na score, IMELD, Refit MELD, and Refit MELD-Na after 2-year follow-up to compare their survival prognosis.

Background: The increasing incidence of multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria causing ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is a global concern. A better understanding of the epidemiology of VAP in Southeast Asia is essential to optimise treatments and patient outcomes.

Methods: VAP epidemiology in an intensive care unit in Vietnam was investigated.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with anxiety; however, its exact mechanism is not well understood. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to assess the effect of moderate CKD on anxiety in rats. 5/6 nephrectomy was performed in male Wistar rats.

Role of the kisspeptin-KISS1R axis in the pathogenesis of chronic kidney disease and uremic cardiomyopathy.

The prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is increasing globally, especially in elderly patients. Recurrent paradoxical cerebral embolism caused by a thrombus entrapped in a patent foramen ovale: a case report.

Introduction: A thrombus straddling the patent foramen ovale (PFO) is a very rare clinical entity. Optimal management remains unclear due to the availability of various therapeutic options; thus, an individualized approach is recommended.

Case Presentation: The authors describe a case presenting with recurrent cerebral embolism and a large and mobile thrombus straddled in the PFO.

Background: Early detection and localization of myocardial infarction (MI) can reduce the severity of cardiac damage through timely treatment interventions. In recent years, deep learning techniques have shown promise for detecting MI in echocardiographic images. Existing attempts typically formulate this task as classification and rely on a single segmentation model to estimate myocardial segment displacements.

Preoperative urine neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin predicts mortality in colorectal cancer patients after laparoscopic surgery: A single-center study.

Purpose: To determine the rate of acute kidney injury (AKI) after laparoscopic colorectal cancer (CRC) surgery and the predictive value of urine neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (uNGAL) for postoperative AKI and mortality during 3 years of follow-up.

Methods: A total of 216 CRC patients who had undergone laparoscopic surgery were included in our study. We divided all patients into two groups, including group 1 ( = 31) with postoperative AKI and group 2 ( = 185) without postoperative AKI.

Background: COVID-19 is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular complications. Although cytokines have a predominant role in endothelium damage, the precise molecular mechanisms are far from being elucidated.

Objectives: The present study hypothesized that inflammation in patients with COVID-19 contributes to endothelial dysfunction through redox-sensitive SGLT2 overexpression and investigated the protective effect of SGLT2 inhibition by empagliflozin.

It is often associated with one or more articular features, including synovitis, enthesitis, and dactylitis. It may also be associated with several non-articular features; these include uveitis, psoriasis, and inflammatory bowel diseases1.

High-Performance Method for Brain Tumor Feature Extraction in MRI Using Complex Network.

Objective: To localize and distinguish between benign and malignant tumors on MRI.

Method: This work proposes a high-performance method for brain tumor feature extraction using a combination of complex network and U-Net architecture. And then, the common machine-learning algorithms are used to discriminate between benign and malignant tumors.

Fertility-Preserving Surgery in a Young Nulligravid Woman with Bilateral Coexistence of a Granulosa Cell Tumor with a Teratoma.

Background: The coexistence of a granulosa cell tumor with a teratoma is extremely rare and impossible to diagnose preoperatively. For most patients with advanced age and stage, the standard treatment is hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy; however, fertility-preserving surgery should be considered for young nulligravid women.

Case: We present a case of a 24-year-old nulligravid female with bilateral adnexal masses, imaging findings of ovarian teratomas, and normal levels of tumor markers.

Progressive alterations of left atrial and ventricular volume and strain across chronic kidney disease stages: a speckle tracking echocardiography study.

Background: It has been a scarcity of evidence regarding differences in left ventricular (LV) and left atrial (LA) size and strain changes across stages of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and which echocardiographic parameters could be utilized to predict the decline of glomerular filtration rate (GFR).

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the alterations of LV and LA strain across the reduction of renal function and potential echocardiographic parameters which could be correlated with the GFR decline among patients with CKD.

Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 169 CKD patients at Bach Mai General Hospital, Hanoi, Vietnam from April to November 2022.
