Asian Thoracic Oncology Research Group expert consensus statement on the peri-operative management of non-small cell lung cancer.

The peri-operative management of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in earlier stage disease has seen significant advances in recent years with the incorporation of immune checkpoint inhibitors and targeted therapy. However, many unanswered questions and challenges remain, including the application of clinical trial data to routine clinical practice. Recognising the unique demographic profile of Asian patients with NSCLC and heterogeneous healthcare systems, the Asian Thoracic Oncology Research Group (ATORG) convened a consensus meeting in Singapore on 26 April 2024 to discuss relevant issues spanning diagnostic testing to post-neoadjuvant treatment considerations and future directions.

The burden of headache disorders among medical students in Vietnam: estimates from a cross-sectional study with a health-care needs assessment.

Background: In our previous study, we demonstrated that headaches are highly prevalent among medical students in Vietnam. In the present study, we provide estimates of the associated symptom burden and impaired participation, utilizing these estimates to assess headache-related healthcare needs within this population.

Methods: The study followed the standardized methodology established by the Global Campaign against Headache.

Global Challenges in the Access of Endovascular Treatment for Acute Ischemic Stroke (Global MT Access).

Background: Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is the standard of care for eligible acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients with large vessel occlusion (LVO) since 2015.

Influential Factors in the Treatment of Infections at a Tertiary Hospital in Vietnam.

As an opportunistic pathogen, is often associated with severe respiratory infections. A study conducted in an ICU of a tertiary hospital in Vietnam, where infection management is relatively good, yielded only 18 clinical isolates of over 6 months. Though the number is small, treating infections is highly complicated.

Profile of snakebite cases admitted to the Poison Control Center of Bach Mai Hospital in northern Vietnam from 2008 to 2020.

Background: Vietnam harbours a high species richness of venomous snakes with >60 recognised species but snakebite pathology and treatment are still understudied, particularly in northern Vietnam.

Methods: A retrospective study from 2008 to 2020 was conducted, focusing on snakebite cases at the Poison Control Center of Bach Mai Hospital, a major centre in northern Vietnam for treating envenoming incidents.

Results: A total of 5805 snakebite cases were reported over 12 y.

Knowledge, Attitude and Practice Regarding Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs and Corticosteroids Use Among Patients With Chronic Rheumatology Condition: A Cross-Sectional Study From Vietnam.

Objectives: To identify gaps in knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding the use of corticosteroids and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) among patients with chronic rheumatic diseases.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using a questionnaire including 12 knowledge questions, 13 attitude assessment statements, 5 barrier assessment statements, and 7 practical scenarios. We counted the total numbers of correct answers in knowledge, positive attitudes, barriers, and appropriate practices and fitted using Poisson regression to examine factors associated with knowledge, attitudes, and practices.

Multimodality Imaging Supports Cardiac Lesion Diagnosis in Patient With Liver Carcinoma: A Case Report.

Introduction: Nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis (NBTE) is a rare cardiac manifestation in patients with advanced malignancies of the lungs, pancreas, gynecological system, and gastrointestinal tract. It is often confirmed postmortem by histopathological evidence of sterile platelet-fibrin deposits attached to the endocardium, most often on heart valves. To the best of our knowledge, our case is the first to report multiple heart lesions caused by the systemic effect of cholangiocarcinoma.

Optimization of meropenem continuous infusion based on Monte Carlo simulation integrating with degradation study.

Objective: Meropenem degradation poses a challenge to continuous infusion (CI) implementation. However, data about the impact of degradation on the probability of target attainment (PTA) of meropenem has been limited. This study evaluated the stability of meropenem brands and the consequence of in-bottle degradation on PTA in different environmental scenarios.

Management of adult sepsis in resource-limited settings: global expert consensus statements using a Delphi method.

Purpose: To generate consensus and provide expert clinical practice statements for the management of adult sepsis in resource-limited settings.

Methods: An international multidisciplinary Steering Committee with expertise in sepsis management and including a Delphi methodologist was convened by the Asia Pacific Sepsis Alliance (APSA). The committee selected an international panel of clinicians and researchers with expertise in sepsis management.

The Effectiveness of Afatinib as First-Line Treatment in Vietnamese Patients With EGFR-Mutant Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer and Brain Metastases.

Introduction: The role of afatinib in the first-line treatment of EGFR-mutant advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients has been proven through clinical trials and real-world studies. However, additional data on the effectiveness of afatinib in patients with brain metastases are lacking.

Methods: EGFR-mutant NSCLC patients with brain metastases were retrospectively reviewed across nine cancer centers in Vietnam from April 1, 2018 to June 1, 2022.

Treatment of Vietnamese patients diagnosed with myelodysplastic neoplasms: Practical experience in a developing country.

Background: Treatment of patients diagnosed with myelodysplastic neoplasms (MDS) is difficult and the outcome is still limited, especially in developing countries. We conducted this study in order to share some experience in treating patients diagnosed with MDS in developing countries.

Methods: This was a retrospective study that included 32 patients with newly MDS.

Methods: This study collected prospective and multicenter data from patients diagnosed with uveitis at three tertiary hospitals in Hanoi City, Vietnam, between January 2022 and January 2024. Data on age, sex, clinical and laboratory findings, and etiology were collected.

Background: Delayed hospital arrival lowers the proportion of patients with stroke receiving recanalization therapy and results in poor outcomes. This study investigated the factors associated with pre-hospital delays in hospital arrival after stroke onset in the Thanh Hoa Province, Vietnam.

Methods: Clinical data were collected from stroke patients within seven days of symptom onset who were prospectively registered in this study.

Identification of novel variants of and genes in xeroderma pigmentosum patients in Vietnam.

Xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) disorder is recognized as a genetic condition inherited by autosomal recessive fashion. XP results from a defective DNA repair mechanism that significantly increases skin cancer risk. Fifteen Vietnamese patients were investigated with typical clinical manifestations of XP.

Exploring LDLR-APOB Interactions in Familial Hypercholesterolemia in the Vietnamese Population: A Protein-Protein Docking Approach.

Atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are closely linked to factors such as familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), often caused by mutations in low-density lipoprotein receptor () and apolipoprotein B (). Through a comprehensive bioinformatic analysis, we identified novel and mutations and their cardiovascular disease (CVD) implications, focusing on unique variants in the Vietnamese population. We used homology modeling to predict protein structures; in addition, through protein-protein molecular docking, we assessed how these mutations affect binding affinities.

Bilevel positive airway pressure treatment of sleep apnea syndrome in a patient with Crouzon syndrome.

Crouzon syndrome (CS) is a hereditary disorder characterized by deformities of the face and skull brought on by syndromic craniosynostosis or the premature fusion of coronal sutures. Pediatric patients with Crouzon syndrome have a high likelihood of developing obstructive sleep apnea (OSAS), primarily due to skeletal hypoplasia and facial dysmorphism. Treatment of OSAS in patients with Crouzon syndrome requires multidisciplinary and sequential treatment planning because Crouzon syndrome often has different phenotypes with varying severity in OSA and facial dysmorphism.

Pediatric IgG4-related dacryoadenitis and sialadenitis (Mikulicz's disease) with acquired hemophilia A: A case report and review of literature.

We report a case of IgG4-related dacryoadenitis and sialadenitis (Mikulicz's disease) with acquired hemophilia A (AHA) in a pediatric patient. An 11-year-old female presented with intermittent swelling of the bilateral upper eyelids and neck areas. Clinical examination revealed bilateral swollen upper eyelids with palpable mass lesions in the lacrimal fossa.

Quality of Life Among Patients with Heart Failure with Reduced Ejection Fraction Receiving Telemedicine Care in Vietnam.

Telemedicine is an effective method to monitor patients at home and improve outcomes of heart failure (HF), especially HF with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). However, little is known about the impact of telemedicine on the quality of life (QoL) among outpatients with HFrEF in lower-middle-income countries (LMICs). In this single-center, prospective, randomized, controlled, open, and parallel-group clinical trial in northern Vietnam, patients with HFrEF were allocated to either telemedicine or control groups.
