Purpose: Since extract of the laminated layer (LL) from E. granulosus showed immuno-modulatory effects in vitro and in vivo, we sought to determine its effect on the onset, development, and evolution of experimental auto-immune uveitis (EAU). The latter is a model of some human diseases with ocular inflammation that can cause blindness.

Methods: According to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, we conducted an online literature search using PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Embase databases.

WALANT technique for acute compartment syndrome of the arm in a COVID-19 patient: A case report.

Introduction: Compartment syndrome is a surgical emergency caused by elevated pressure within a closed fascial compartment, leading to compromised tissue perfusion and the potential for irreversible damage if not treated promptly. This report presents a rare case of upper limb compartment syndrome in a COVID-19 patient on anticoagulation therapy following multiple failed venipuncture attempts. This work has been reported in line with the SCARE criteria.

Factors associated with therapeutic non-adherence in asthmatic patients: A multicenter study in Algeria.

Introduction: Effective medication adherence, is a real global challenge that emerges as a pivotal factor influencing asthma control, exacerbation frequency, hospitalization rates and ultimately, mortality, morbidity and health care costs. In light of this, our study aimed to assess therapeutic adherence levels among asthmatic patients and identify factors contributing to non-adherence.

Methods: We conducted a descriptive, cross-sectional multicenter study, among asthmatic patients receiving outpatient or inpatient care across seven asthma centers located in two Algerian cities: Algiers (University Hospital Center of Benimessous, University Hospital Center of Bab el oued,EPSP of Zeralda, EPSP of Beraki and EPSP of Rouiba) and Constantine (Constantine University Hospital Center (CHU), EPSP of Constantine), between July and December 2023.

Objective: To develop the Still's Disease Activity Score (SDAS).

Methods: We used data from the prospective adult-onset Still's disease cohort study and evaluated the disease activity. An expert group selected the most frequent, reproducible, and objective variables significantly modified in statistical analysis when comparing patients in the active group and in the remission group.

Crucial Interactions between Altered Plasma Trace Elements and Fatty Acids Unbalance Ratio to Management of Systemic Arterial Hypertension in Diabetic Patients: Focus on Endothelial Dysfunction.

The coexistence of SAH with T2DM is a common comorbidity. In this study, we investigated the link between altered plasma antioxidant trace elements (ATE: manganese, selenium, zinc, and copper) and fatty acids ratio (FAR: polyunsaturated/saturated) imbalance as transition biomarkers between vascular pathology (SAH) to metabolic pathology (T2DM). Our data revealed strong correlation between plasma ATE and FAR profile, which is modified during SAH-T2DM association compared to the healthy group.

Flow cytometry-based diagnostic approach for inborn errors of immunity: experience from Algeria.

Purpose: In this study, we retrospectively reviewed the use of flow cytometry (FCM) in the diagnosis of inborn errors of immunity (IEIs) at a single center in Algeria. Sharing insights into our practical experience, we present FCM based diagnostic approaches adapted to different clinical scenarios.

Methods: Between May 2017 and February 2024, pediatric and adult patients presenting with clinical features suggestive of immunodeficiency were subjected to FCM evaluation, including lymphocyte subset analysis, detection of specific surface or intracellular proteins, and functional analysis of immune cells.

Appraisal of amyloidosis imaging practices in the Middle East/North Africa (PYP-MENA).

Aims: Whereas recommendations to optimize performance and yield of cardiac scintigraphy studies with bone-seeking tracers have been published, little is known about real-world adherence to these best practices, especially outside North America and Europe. Accordingly, we described imaging practices with this modality in a sample of nuclear laboratories in the Middle East/North Africa (MENA) region.

Effects of early rehabilitation on enhanced recovery after caesarean section.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of improved rehabilitation on the average length of stay after a scheduled caesarean section under neuraxial anaesthesia, it is a descriptive, monocentric study with prospective recruitment. Our protocol was based on neuraxial anaesthesia with intrathecal morphine, multimodal analgesia, with oral analgesics postoperatively, prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), rapid demedicalization, refeeding and mobilisation. We included 99 patients.

Ex vivo Immuno-modulatory effect of Echinococcus granulosus laminated layer during allergic rhinitis and allergic asthma: A study in Algerian Patients.

The effect of helminthic infections on allergic diseases and asthma is still inconclusive. Moreover, there is considerable evidence suggesting that nitric oxide (NO), metalloproteinases and pro-inflammatory cytokines play a significant role in the physiopathology of these diseases. Objective: This study was performed to develop a new diagnostic algorithm for adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD).

Methods: We conducted a multicenter prospective nationwide case-control study in tertiary Internal Medicine, Rheumatology, and Infectious Diseases departments, to include successively patients with suspected AOSD based on the presence of two or more major criteria of Yamaguchi and/or Fautrel classifications. Patients were classified as AOSD or controls according to a predefined procedure.

Radiopharmacy in Africa: current status and future directions.

This report is a summary of the first SRS-Africa meeting that was held virtually on the 15th of October 2021, to gain information on the status of radiopharmaceutical sciences in Africa. Registration data included information on participants' qualifications and field of work. An independent survey performed in Africa prior to the meeting elicited details of available staff in different countries, facilities and equipment, radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals used, research undertaken and difficulties experienced.

Algerian Registry for Inborn Errors of Immunity in Children: Report of 887 Children (1985-2021).

Introduction: Inborn errors of immunity (IEI) represent a heterogeneous large group of genetic disorders characterized by susceptibility of affected individuals to recurrent infections, autoimmune/inflammatory diseases, allergy, and malignancy. We aimed to report for the first time the Algerian registry for IEI in children.

Methods: We described the characteristics of IEI in Algerian children from the data collected in the Algerian registry for IEI between 1985 and 2021.

Genotype, Mortality, Morbidity, and Outcomes of 3β-Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenase Deficiency in Algeria.

Background: 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 2 (3βHSD2) deficiency is a rare form of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), with fewer than 200 cases reported in the world literature and few data on outcomes.

Patients And Methods: We report a mixed longitudinal and cross-sectional study from a single Algerian center between 2007 and 2021. Virilization and under-masculinization were assessed using Prader staging and the external masculinization score (EMS), pubertal development staged according to the system of Tanner.

Inborn Errors of Immunity in Algerian Children and Adults: A Single-Center Experience Over a Period of 13 Years (2008-2021).

Background: Inborn errors of immunity (IEI) predispose patients to various infectious and non-infectious complications. Thanks to the development and expanding use of flow cytometry and increased awareness, the diagnostic rate of IEI has markedly increased in Algeria the last decade.

Aim: This study aimed to describe a large cohort of Algerian patients with probable IEI and to determine their clinical characteristics and outcomes.

The importance of genetic study and long-term management in patients with bilateral pheochromocytomas.

Tumors secreting catecholamines, such as pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas, are rare and life-threatening, due to their complications. They can be sporadic or occur in genetic syndromes, such as von Hippel-Lindau in which pheochromocytomas are observed in 10 to 20%. We report a case of a 42 years old male, who was sent in 2016 to our department for neurological symptoms related to cerebellar and central vestibular syndromes.

Determination of administered activities for the treatment of Graves' disease with iodine-131: Proposition of a simplified dosimetric procedure.

This prospective study included 35 patients suffering from Graves' disease (GD) clinically and biologically confirmed by endocrinologists, sent to the nuclear medicine department of CHU de Bab El Oued, Algiers for iodine-131 therapy. CHU de Bab El Oued is a tertiary hospital located in the center of the capital Algiers. The aim of this study is to propose a simplified dosimetric procedure which will initiate iodine-131 therapy of GD in particular and hyperthyroidism in general in Niger.
