Background: The aim of this study was to ascertain the effect of the extent and severity of bronchiectasis as determined with high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) on lung function in patients with pure bronchiectasis, bronchiectasis and asthma, and bronchiectasis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Methods: One hundred nineteen patients (71 with pure bronchiectasis, 25 asthmatic patients with bronchiectasis, and 23 COPD patients with bronchiectasis) underwent HRCT and pulmonary function tests. Computed tomography features were scored by the consensus of 2 radiologists.

Purpose: We investigated whether inserting an intrathecal catheter and leaving it in place for 24 h after an unintentional dural puncture in orthopedic patients reduced the incidence of post-dural puncture headache (PDPH).

Methods: The study consisted of 427 patients in whom a total of 21 unintentional dural punctures had occurred during orthopedic surgery performed between 2002 and 2006. Seven patients (phase I; evaluated retrospectively) each underwent placement of an epidural catheter at another level after dural puncture during the period January 2002 to February 2004.

Background: We aimed to present our experience on computed tomography (CT) findings of small bowel obstruction due to bezoar impaction.

Methods: CT scans of seven patients (3 males, 4 females, age range; 30-93 years) who were diagnosed as small bowel obstruction due to bezoars were reviewed.

Results: In each patient, an intraluminal mass with a mottled gas pattern on CT enabled specific preoperative diagnosis of bezoars, and postoperative changes such as anastomotic lines and afferent-efferent loops.

Objective: In combined carotid-coronary artery surgery, it is important to determine patients' neurologic status after carotid endarterectomy (CEA). An initial stroke could be exacerbated by cardiopulmonary bypass required for coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Various monitoring methods (eg, electroencephalogram) have been used to reduce neurologic deficits during CEA under general anesthesia.

Objectives: Spondylolisthesis is the forward displacement of a lumbar vertebra relative to the adjacent vertebra, occurs as result degeneration or surgery and is a special type of lumbar instability. There is no consensus about which radiologic modality or findings truly reflect the lumbar instability and the exact incidence after single level disk surgery is unknown.

Methods: In this prospective study, we have included 90 patients who were operated by the same surgeon with single level disk herniation.

This study determined whether prolonged QRS duration (QRSd; > or =120 ms) is an independent predictor of low cardiac output syndrome (LCOS) in patients with low left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (EF) who underwent isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Abnormal LV systolic function places patients at greater risk for developing LCOS after isolated CABG. In patients with this form of ventricular function impairment, prolonged QRSd is associated with adverse hemodynamic effects.
