Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDSs) are a group of hematologic neoplasms accompanied by dysplasia of bone marrow (BM) hematopoietic cells with cytopenia. Recently, digitalized pathology and pathomics using computerized feature analysis have been actively researched for classifying and predicting prognosis in various tumors of hematopoietic tissues. This study analyzed the pathomic features of hematopoietic cells in BM aspiration smears of patients with MDS according to each hematopoietic cell lineage and dysplasia.

Background: Bacterial meningitis (BM) in infants is a serious condition that can lead to significant complications. Lumbar puncture (LP) is essential to provide diagnoses, however false negatives may result if LP is performed after the starting of antibiotic therapy.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of infants of any gestational age with BM within their first 90 days of life and admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Modena Policlinico between 1 January 2011, and 31 December 2023.

Background/objectives: Neurodegenerative diseases are a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and their public health burden continues to increase. There is an urgent need to develop reliable and sensitive biomarkers to aid the timely diagnosis, disease progression monitoring, and therapeutic development for neurodegenerative disorders. Proteomic screening strategies, including antibody microarrays, are a powerful tool for biomarker discovery, but their findings should be confirmed using quantitative assays.

Background/objectives: A significant number of COVID-19 cases experience persistent symptoms after the acute infection phase, a condition known as long COVID or post-acute sequelae of COVID-19. Approved prevention and treatment options for long COVID are currently lacking. Given the heterogeneous nature of long COVID, a personalized medicine approach is essential for effective disease management.

Objective: This study aimed to compare bone marrow aspirate (BMA) multicolor flow cytometry (MFC) analysis and bone marrow biopsy (BMB) in detecting bone marrow (BM) involvement in children with neuroblastoma (NB) at diagnosis and during follow-up.
Materials And Methods: A total of 132 BM samples from 39 patients (M/F ratio: 19/20; median age: 38 months) with neuroblastoma were simultaneously obtained for evaluation. The samples were investigated for BM involvement using BMB and MFC.

Sweet corn is a globally important food source and vegetable renowned for its rich nutritional content. However, post-harvest quality deterioration remains a significant challenge due to sweet corn's high sensitivity to environmental factors. Currently, low-temperature storage is the primary method for preserving sweet corn; however, the molecular mechanisms involved in this process remain unclear.

The mathematical representation of the universe consists of sequences of symbols, rules and operators containing Gödel's undecidable propositions: information and its manipulation, also with Turing Machines. Classical information theory and mathematics, ideally independent from the medium used, can be interpreted realistically and objectively from their correspondence with quantum information, which is physical. Each representation of the universe and its evolution are, in any case, physical subsets of the universe, structured sets of observers and their complements in the universe made with spacetime events generated by local quantum measurements.

In the field of complex network analysis, accurately identifying key nodes is crucial for understanding and controlling information propagation. Although several local centrality methods have been proposed, their accuracy may be compromised if interactions between nodes and their neighbors are not fully considered. To address this issue, this paper proposes a key node identification method based on multilayer neighbor node gravity and information entropy (MNNGE).

: Chemical debridement is a fundamental step during the surgical treatment of both acute and chronic periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). However, there is no consensus on the optimal solution, nor is there sufficient evidence on the optimal irrigation time and combination of solutions. In an in vitro study, our group recently demonstrated that sequential combination debridement (SCD) with 3% acetic acid (AA) followed by 10% povidone iodine (PI) and 5 mM hydrogen peroxide (HO) was the best strategy for reducing bacterial load.

Background: Early detection of sphingolipidoses is crucial to prevent irreversible complications and improve patient outcomes. The use of urine samples dried on filter paper (DUS) is a non-invasive strategy that simplifies the collection, storage, and shipping of samples compared to using liquid urine specimens.
Objectives: (1) Develop and validate a multiplex ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) methodology using DUS to quantify twenty-one lysosphingolipids normalized to creatinine for eight different sphingolipidoses.

Even though venetoclax in combination with azacitidine (VenAza) is considered a low-intensity regimen, its patients present a high incidence of cytopenia and infections during the first courses, making the initial management a challenging phase. This difficulty in our center led to the establishment of an At-Home (AH) program for ramp-up and follow-up patients during the VenAza combination induction phase focused on therapy administration, patient and caregiver education, and management of adverse events (AEs). A total of 70 patients with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (ND-AML) or relapsed/refractory AML (R/R AML) were treated with VenAza from March 2019 to May 2022.

: Uveal melanomas (UMs) are rare but often deadly malignancies that urgently require viable treatment options. UMs often exhibit tumour heterogeneity, with macroscopic and microscopic differences in morphology between different regions of the same tumour. However, to date, the clinical significance of this and how it may help guide personalised therapy have not been realised.

Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) play a crucial role in bone formation through their ability to differentiate into osteoblasts. Aging, however, detrimentally affects the differentiation and proliferation capacities of BM-MSCs, consequently impairing bone regeneration. Thus, mitigating the aging effects on BM-MSCs is vital for addressing bone-related pathologies.

Sex-controlled sperm combined with artificial insemination allows animals to reproduce offspring according to the desired sex, accelerates the process of animal genetics and breeding and promotes the development of animal husbandry. However, the molecular markers for sexual sperm sorting are unusual. To identify the molecular markers of boar sperm sorting, proteomics and metabolomics techniques were applied to analyze the differences in proteins and metabolism between X and Y sperm.

β-Lactams are the most widely used antibiotics for the treatment of bacterial infections because of their proven track record of safety and efficacy. However, susceptibility to β-lactam antibiotics is continually eroded by resistance mechanisms. Emerging multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains possessing altered alleles (encoding PBP2) pose a global health emergency as they threaten the utility of ceftriaxone, the last remaining outpatient antibiotic.

Background: Sponges harbor microbial communities that play crucial roles in host health and ecology. However, the genetic adaptations that enable these symbiotic microorganisms to thrive within the sponge environment are still being elucidated. To understand these genetic adaptations, we conducted a comparative genomics analysis on 350 genomes of Actinobacteriota, a phylum commonly associated with sponges.
