Purpose: The pathomorphology of Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease (LCPD) is a key contributor to poor long-term outcomes such as hip pain, femoroacetabular impingement, and early-onset osteoarthritis. Plain radiographs, commonly used for research and in the clinic, cannot accurately represent the full extent of LCPD deformity. The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate a methodological framework for three-dimensional (3D) statistical shape modeling (SSM) of the proximal femur in LCPD.

Introduction: Eslicarbazepine (ESL) is a once-daily, third-generation antiseizure medication for focal-onset seizures. The primary mechanism of action is enhancing the slow inactivation of voltage-gated sodium channels. The study objective was to review real-world experience regarding retention rate, efficacy, and tolerability of eslicarbazepine, soon after it became available for children in Canada.

Context: Social ties are associated with the mortality and morbidity of aging populations; however, the role of social ties in healthy eating practices or gender differences in this link is less understood.
Objective: The objective of this study was to examine the longitudinal evidence for the impact of changes in social ties on fruit and vegetable (FV) intakes among aging adults, with attention to gender differences.
Data Sources: Medline, Embase, Scopus, CINAHL, and ProQuest databases were searched until December 2022.

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly aggressive disease characterized by complex metabolic rewiring that enables growth in changing nutrient availability and oxygen conditions. Transcriptome-based prognostic PDAC tumor subtypes, known as 'basal-like' and 'classical' subtypes are associated with differences in metabolic gene expression including genes involved in glycolysis. Tumor subtype-specific metabolism phenotypes may provide new targets for treatment development in PDAC, but their functional relevance has not been fully elucidated.

Background: Advances in technology and knowledge have facilitated both an increase in the number of patient variants reported and variants reclassified. While there is currently no duty to recontact for reclassified genetic variants, there may be a responsibility. The purpose of this clinical practice advisory document is to provide healthcare practitioners guidance for recontact of previously identified and classified variants, suggest methods for recontact, and principles to consider, taking account patient safety, feasibility, ethical considerations, health service capacity and resource constraints.

Sepsis arises when the body's response to an infection injures its own tissues and organs. Among children hospitalized with suspected sepsis in low-income country settings, mortality rates following discharge are high, similar to mortality rates in hospital. The Smart Discharges Program uses a mobile health (mHealth) platform to identify children at high risk of post-discharge mortality to receive enhanced post-discharge care.

Problem: Women pregnant during the COVID-19 pandemic may be at risk of elevated postpartum mental health problems.
Background: Social support protects maternal mental health during a pandemic. It is possible that formal supports, such as continuity maternity models of care, may also support maternal wellbeing.

We examined the feasibility, acceptability, and potential mental health impact of a digital peer support intervention involving videoconferencing and text-based support for parents of school-aged children living with T1D and analyzed posts exchanged by parents on a texting platform. Eighteen parents were recruited for Huddle4Parents, a 4-month digital intervention that involved four synchronous group-based Zoom sessions coupled with an asynchronous 24/7 peer support texting room. Primary outcomes were feasibility (i.

Fear avoidance behaviour is associated with slow recovery from mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). This study is a preliminary evaluation of graded exposure therapy (GET), which directly targets fear avoidance behaviour, for reducing post-concussion symptoms (PCS) and disability following mTBI. In a historical comparison design, we compared two groups from independent randomized trials.

Discrepant sample processing remains a significant challenge within blood metabolomics research, introducing non-biological variation into the measured metabolome and biasing downstream results. Inconsistency during the pre-analytical phase can influence experimental processes, producing metabolome measurements that are non-representative of in vivo composition. To minimize variation, there is a need to create and adhere to standardized pre-analytical protocols for blood samples intended for use in metabolomics analyses.

While a low degree of energy compensation is typically reported over the 24 h following a session of exercise, the prolonged impact of a bout of exercise on energy intake remains unclear. To overcome the challenge associated with accurately measuring energy intake in a free-living environment, this study employed the use of a meal replacement beverage to assess the 3 day impact of an exercise session on energy intake. In a randomized, crossover study, 14 participants (8 male, 6 female) completed two trials: (1) EX: 75 min exercise on a motorized treadmill (75% VO); and (2) SED: 75 min sedentary control session.
