Background: As a global public health issue, childhood maltreatment is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. We aimed to investigate the association between childhood maltreatment and immune-mediated inflammatory disorders (IMIDs).

Methods: We conducted a retrospective matched open cohort study using a UK primary care database between January 1, 1995 and January 31, 2021.

Background: The World Health Organization introduced intrinsic capacity (IC) as a metric for healthy aging. However, we found no report on the association between IC and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We investigated the association between IC and incident T2DM in older Chinese from the Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study.

Association between abdominal obesity indices and falls among older community-dwellers in Guangzhou, China: a prospective cohort study.

Background: Central obesity was considered as a risk factor for falls among the older population. Waist circumference (WC), lipid accumulation product (LAP), visceral adiposity index (VAI), and the Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI) are considered as surrogate markers for abdominal fat deposition in increasing studies. Nevertheless, the longitudinal relationship between these indices and falls among the older population remains indistinct.

Microfluidics as a Powerful Tool to Investigate Microvascular Dysfunction in Trauma Conditions: A Review of the State-of-the-Art.

Skeletal muscle trauma such as fracture or crush injury can result in a life-threatening condition called acute compartment syndrome (ACS), which involves elevated compartmental pressure within a closed osteo-fascial compartment, leading to collapse of the microvasculature and resulting in necrosis of the tissue due to ischemia. Diagnosis of ACS is complex and controversial due to the lack of standardized objective methods, which results in high rates of misdiagnosis/late diagnosis, leading to permanent neuro-muscular damage. ACS pathophysiology is poorly understood at a cellular level due to the lack of physiologically relevant models.

Establishing Predictors of Acute Sarcopenia: A Proof-Of-Concept Study Utilising Network Analysis.

Dynamic changes in sarcopenia status following stressor events are defined as acute sarcopenia; it is currently unknown how to stratify risk. Prospective observational study involving elective colorectal surgery, emergency abdominal surgery, and medical patients with infections aged ≥70 years-old. Handgrip strength, muscle quantity (ultrasound Bilateral Anterior Thigh Thickness, BATT, and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis), and muscle quality (rectus femoris echogenicity) were measured preoperatively in the elective group, and within 48hours, 7days after, and 13weeks after admission/surgery.

2024 Wheelchair Compendium of Physical Activities: An update of activity codes and energy expenditure values.

Purpose: This paper presents an update of the 2011 Wheelchair Compendium of Physical Activities designed for wheelchair users and is referred to as the 2024 Wheelchair Compendium. The Wheelchair Compendium aims to curate existing knowledge of the energy expenditure for wheelchair physical activities (PAs).

Methods: A systematic review of the published energy expenditure of PA for wheelchair users was completed between 2011 and May 2023.

Electrochemically Switchable Multimode Strong Coupling in Plasmonic Nanocavities.

The strong-coupling interaction between quantum emitters and cavities provides the archetypical platform for fundamental quantum electrodynamics. Here we show that methylene blue (MB) molecules interact coherently with subwavelength plasmonic nanocavity modes at room temperature. Experimental results show that the strong coupling can be switched on and off reversibly when MB molecules undergo redox reactions which transform them to leuco-methylene blue molecules.

Metazoan holo-TFIID is composed of the TATA binding protein (TBP) and of 13 TBP associated factors (TAFs). The transcription factor MYB plays a pivotal role in haematopoietic homoeostasis and its aberrant expression is involved in the genesis and maintenance of acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). We have previously demonstrated that not all AML subtypes display the same dependency on MYB expression and that such variability is dictated by the nature of the driver mutation. However, whether this difference in MYB dependency is a general trend in AML remains to be further elucidated.

Polycationic Ru(II) Luminophores: Syntheses, Photophysics, and Application in Electrostatically Driven Sensitization of Lanthanide Luminescence.

A series of photoluminescent Ru(II) polypyridine complexes have been synthesized in a manner that varies the extent of the cationic charge. Two ligand systems (L1 and L2), based upon 2,2'-bipyridine (bipy) mono- or difunctionalized at the 5- or 5,5'-positions using -methylimidazolium groups, were utilized. The resulting Ru(II) species therefore carried +3, +4, +6, and +8 complex moieties based on a [Ru(bipy)] core.

A sampling campaign was carried out between May 2017 and July 2018 in over 64 sites in four sessions, to develop a spatio-temporal land use regression (LUR) model for fine particulate matter (PM) and wood-burning tracers levoglucosan and soluble potassium (K) in a city heavily impacted by wood-burning.

Heart Rate Reduction and Outcomes in Heart Failure Outpatients.

Pharmacologic reduction in heart rate with beta-blockers (BB) or ivabradine is associated with improved survival in heart failure (HF) with sinus rhythm. We analyzed the association of different heart rate-reducing drug treatments on outcomes in HF outpatients. Consecutive patients with HF in sinus rhythm referred to a specialized tertiary service were prospectively enrolled from August 2015 until March 2018.
