Primarily synthesized for chelating metal ions from the surrounding media, the pyomelanin plays an important role in bacterial virulence where it is needed for infection and biofilm formation as well as protection from host immune response. In this study, two out of three phenolic acids, gallic acid, and propyl gallate induced pyomelanin in two clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and inhibited biofilm formation. Ascorbic acid treatment reversed the gallic acid and propyl gallate mediated pyomelanin synthesis without reversing the inhibition of the biofilm formation.

The continuous rise in demand, combined with the depletion of the world's fossil fuel reserves, has forced the search for alternative fuels. The biodiesel produced from Roselle is one such indigenous biodiesel with tremendous promise, and its technical ability to operate with compression ignition engines is studied in this work. To characterize the fuel blends, researchers used experimental and empirical approaches while operating at engine loads of 25, 50, 75, and 100%, and with fuel injection timings of 19°, 21°, 23°, 25°, and 27° before top dead center.

World-Health-Organization (WHO) has listed Tuberculosis (TB) as one among the top 10 reasons for death and an early diagnosis will help to cure the patient by giving suitable treatment. TB usually affects the lungs and an accurate bio-imaging scheme will be apt to diagnose the infection. This research aims to implement an automated scheme to detect TB infection in chest radiographs (X-ray) using a chosen Deep-Learning (DL) approach.

The objective of the study was to depolymerize alginate into short-length oligoalginates, adopting the simple solution plasma process (SPP) technique, for successful use in free radical scavenging and growth promotion in cell culture and agricultural practices. Alginate at various concentrations was depolymerized to oligoalginates using SPP by discharging for various times. The depolymerization into oligoalginates was proved by DNS, TLC, FT-IR, and HPAEC analyses and caused decrease in viscosity.

For low temperature agricultural crop and meat drying, dryers utilizing the renewable energy source (solar energy) appear to be an efficient technique as it is ecofriendly, energy efficient, and available in free of cost. This work presents the experimental investigation on a solar food dryer equipped with external reflectors to enhance the rate of drying efficiency by removing the moisture content available in the anchovy fish. A comparison of conventional open solar drying is carried out to assess the parameters such as drying efficiency, moisture removal rate, and heat energy required for drying the anchovy fish using the modified solar dryer using the natural convection technique.

The present work reported synthesis, characterization, and biocompatibility of starch encapsulated silver nanoparticles (St-PF-AgNPs) and their antibacterial activity. The synthesis of St-PF-AgNPs involved in two steps: (i) synthesis of the biogenic silver nanoparticles using the fungal extracts (PF-AgNPs); and, (ii) encapsulation of starch in PF-AgNPs (St-PF-AgNPs). The surface plasmon resonance was found at 420 nm for the PF-AgNPs while it was at 260 and 420 nm for the St-PF-AgNPs.

In the current article, the electronic, magnetic, and optical properties of GdP in the hypothetical zinc blende structure have been discussed by using GGA, GGA+U, mBJ, GGA+SOC, and GGA+SOC+U approaches. The energy vs volume plots in the three magnetic states suggest the ferromagnetic phase to be the stable phase of GdP. The cohesive energy calculated for GdP is negative, suggesting the stability of the compound.

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is extensively used in plastic products, and its accumulation in the environment has become a global concern. Being a non-degradable pollutant, a tremendous quantity of PET-bearing plastic materials have already accumulated in the environment, posing severe challenges towards the existence of various endangered species and consequently threatening the ecosystem and biodiversity. While conventional recycling and remediation methodologies so far have been ineffective in formulating a "green" degradation protocol, the bioremediation strategies-though nascent-are exhibiting greater promises towards achieving the target.
