Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of automated machine learning (AutoML) models in detecting fundus diseases using ocular B-scan ultrasound images.
Methods: Ophthalmologists annotated two B-scan ultrasound image datasets to develop three AutoML models-single-label, multi-class single-label and multi-label-on the Vertex artificial intelligence (AI) platform. Performance of these models was compared among themselves and against existing bespoke models for binary classification tasks.

Invasive aspergillosis (IA) significantly increases mortality in critically ill patients in the ICU and its occurrence is closely related to immunocompromise. Dissemination of IA is easily misdiagnosed and mistreated due to its ability to invade multiple systems throughout the body and lack of typical clinical manifestations. In this case, a 25-year-old previously healthy woman was hospitalized with fulminant myocarditis and treated with veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane pulmonary oxygenation (VA-ECMO) support and intravenous acyclovir, high-dose methylprednisolone, and immunoglobulin.

Purpose: To assess the accuracy of swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) in detecting complete posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) in comparison with intraoperative findings.
Methods: The retrospective study included 145 eyes of 145 consecutive patients who underwent surgery for epiretinal membranes or macular holes. Within a week prior to surgery, PVD status was evaluated by SS-OCT with a depth of field of 3 mm and a capture window of 16 × 8 mm.

Purpose: To investigate the relationship between the depth of wide and narrow primary macular staphyloma and myopic macular retinoschisis.
Methods: Sixty-nine highly myopic eyes with wide and narrow primary macular staphyloma were included in this cross-sectional study and classified into two groups according to the presence or absence of myopic macular retinoschisis on swept-source optical coherence tomography. All patients received a complete ophthalmologic examination with determination of macular staphyloma depth by ocular ultrasonography (B-scan).

Background: Optic neuropathies represent one of the most frequent causes of vision loss, and they can manifest alone or in conjunction with neurological or systemic symptoms and signs. In recent years, the diagnostic techniques used to detect optic neuropathies have significantly improved, facilitating diagnosis and improving treatment. Among these, ocular ultrasound has assumed a fundamental role, although with conflicting results in the published scientific literature.

(1) Background: Ocular emergencies account for 1.5-3% of emergency department (ED) visits and require urgent diagnosis to prevent serious complications. Ultrasonography is a crucial, non-invasive diagnostic tool for these conditions but traditionally lacks portability and integration with modern electronic smart devices.

Gunpowder-related ocular injuries are rare and can present significant diagnostic and management challenges. This case report describes a 27-year-old male who was discovered to have subconjunctival gunpowder foreign bodies during a routine annual medical examination. The patient presented with best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) of 20/20 in both eyes and was asymptomatic, with no complaints of pain, visual disturbances, or other ocular symptoms.

Purpose: This study evaluates the predictive power of the critical flicker fusion frequency (CFF) test for visual outcomes in keratoprosthesis (KPro) candidates, comparing its accuracy with B-scan ultrasound, flash visual evoked potentials (fVEP) and endoscopy.
Methods: The study included 42 patients (42 eyes) scheduled for KPro surgery with a median follow-up period of 6 months. The receiver operating characteristic curve identified the cut-off threshold for CFF in the model development study (17 eyes).

Introduction: The aim of this work is to develop a deep learning (DL) system for rapidly and accurately screening for intraocular tumor (IOT), retinal detachment (RD), vitreous hemorrhage (VH), and posterior scleral staphyloma (PSS) using ocular B-scan ultrasound images.
Methods: Ultrasound images from five clinically confirmed categories, including vitreous hemorrhage, retinal detachment, intraocular tumor, posterior scleral staphyloma, and normal eyes, were used to develop and evaluate a fine-grained classification system (the Dual-Path Lesion Attention Network, DPLA-Net). Images were derived from five centers scanned by different sonographers and divided into training, validation, and test sets in a ratio of 7:1:2.

Scleritis is a rare and potentially sight-threatening inflammatory disorder affecting the sclera. While anterior scleritis is the more commonly encountered subtype, posterior scleritis represents a larger portion of cases in the pediatric population. Diagnosing posterior scleritis can be challenging due to the overlap with other more common ocular conditions, particularly in the pediatric age group.
