Elevated plasma triglyceride and non-esterified fatty acid concentrations may cause insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) is a rate-determining enzyme in lipid metabolism. A variant in the LPL gene has been identified which alters the penultimate amino acid Serine at 447 to a stop codon (S447X), and results in a truncated LPL molecule lacking the C-terminal dipeptide Ser-Gly.

Intussusception of small bowel is considered a rare cause of bowel obstruction in adults accounting for only about 1% of bowel obstruction in adults. Intussusception in adults is uncommon with 95% cases of intussusceptions occurring in children. Adult intussusception from small intestinal lymphoma is also rare with only 36 cases reported in the literature between 2000 and 2011.

Background: Pressor response is a part of stress response caused by reflex sympathetic discharge due to direct laryngoscopy and tracheal intubation resulting in tachycardia, hypertension and arrhythmias. Both clonidine, and gabapentin administered orally can effectively blunt this detrimental hemodynamic response.

Aim: To study the effect of oral clonidine to blunt the pressor response to direct laryngoscopy and to compare it with oral gabapentin.

Introduction: Drug cost is essential component of anaesthesia pharmacoeconomics. Recently pharmacoeconomics has emerged to measure, compare and evaluate cost of drug therapy to health system and decide which strategies produce best outcomes for resources allocated. The present study was planned to find utilization of intravenous anaesthetic agents in a tertiary care hospital and to find the pharmacoeconomics related to utilized and un-utilized drug data.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a leading opportunistic pathogen and its expanding drug resistance is a growing menace to public health. Its ubiquitous nature and multiple resistance mechanisms make it a difficult target for antimicrobial chemotherapy and require a fresh approach for developing new antimicrobial agents against it. The broad-spectrum antibacterial effects of silver nanoparticles (SNPs) make them an excellent candidate for use in the medical field.

Background: Despite endorsement of the line probe assay (LPA) for the diagnosis of drug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis patients, there is limited data available on the performance of LPAs in India, especially from high burden states like Maharashtra, for the early diagnosis and detection of drug resistance, in order to initiate timely and appropriate treatment.

Objective: To evaluate the utility of the line probe assay (LPA) for the early diagnosis of drug-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis as compared to the 'Gold standard' 1% proportion method (PM).

Materials And Methods: A total of 687 patients suspected of pulmonary tuberculosis were screened.

Objectives: We determine the significant relation of HDL cholesterol and total cholesterol/HDL cholesterol between CETP I405V genotypes and activity of CETP. CETP is an essential for transfer of cholesterol ester to the liver from peripheral tissues which facilitating its transfer to TG rich VLDL. Reduction activity of CETP I405V may associate with genotypes of CETP I405V.
