Acute esophageal necrosis (AEN) is an uncommon endoscopic finding characterized by a patchy or diffuse circumferential black pigmentation of the esophageal mucosa, corresponding to ischemic necrosis. It usually presents with upper gastrointestinal bleeding and is thought to be caused by a systemic low blood flow in patients with predisposing risk factors, like advanced age and cardiovascular comorbidities. After initial hemodynamic stabilization, diagnosis is established by esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) with careful biopsies and histological evaluation.

Bacterial urinary tract infections (UTIs) are common, ranging from benign cystitis to complicated pyelonephritis, which can lead to severe complications such as pyonephrosis and sepsis. Pyonephrosis, characterized by the presence of pus in the renal cavities, often requires urgent urological intervention. We report a unique case of pyonephrosis with a psoas abscess caused by and in a 64-year-old diabetic female patient.

Background: Haemorrhagic shock is the leading cause of preventable death among trauma patients. Early detection of severe haemorrhage is essential for initiating timely resuscitation and mobilizing resources for massive transfusion (MT) protocols and damage control procedures. This study aimed to assess the predictive value of prehospital haemoglobin (Hb) levels for the need for transfusion at admission, the presence of haemorrhagic shock (HS), and the necessity for MT or haemostatic surgery.

Background: To reduce the number of deaths caused by exsanguination, the initial management of severe trauma aims to prevent, if not limit, the lethal triad, which consists of acidosis, coagulopathy, and hypothermia. Recently, several studies have suggested adding hypocalcemia to the lethal triad to form the lethal diamond, but the evidence supporting this change is limited. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the lethal triad and lethal diamond for their respective associations with 24-h mortality in severe trauma patients receiving transfusion.

Introduction: Ectopic pregnancies are a significant clinical concern, with 90 % occurring in the fallopian tubes. However, they can also manifest in other locations, including the cervix, ovary, and abdominal cavity. Abdominal pregnancies, which constitute less than 1 % of ectopic pregnancies, are associated with considerable morbidity and mortality.

Traumatic tricuspid regurgitation (TTR) is an uncommon cause of acute right ventricular dysfunction. The surgical approach can be complex, and repair tends to have a lower success rate when right heart failure symptoms are present. We present a case of a 56-year-old man with chronic isolated tricuspid valve flail and severe TTR due to high-energy blunt chest trauma from a vehicle accident 24 years prior.

Introduction: Currently, limited data are available on long-term use of dupilumab to treat atopic dermatitis (AD) in a multinational real-world setting. The aim of this analysis was to report the interim 1-year data for patients with AD enrolled in the GLOBOSTAD registry, including treatment patterns, dupilumab effectiveness and safety, and healthcare burden.
Methods: GLOBOSTAD is an ongoing, 5-year, multinational, prospective, observational study of adult/adolescent (aged ≥ 12 years at baseline) patients with AD who initiated dupilumab in real-world settings according to their local country-specific prescribing guidelines.

Cavernous malformations are low-flow fragile vascular lesions prone to extralesional bleeding that can occur in the cerebral hemispheres, the brainstem, or the spinal cord. This paper reports the case of a 32-year-old right-handed man with acute-onset headaches associated with right-sided tinnitus, right-sided hemianesthesia, and binocular diplopia related to cranial nerve IV palsy. Neuroimaging displayed left-sided isolated cavernous malformation of the inferior tectal plate, with evidence of extralesional bleeding.

Background Bladder urothelial carcinoma (BLCA) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, largely due to the high frequency of disease relapse and the lack of efficient endoscopic diagnostic methods. This study aimed to address this clinical gap by evaluating the potential of using adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) gene promoter methylation as a biomarker detectable in urine DNA of individuals with BLCA. Methods Methylation-specific PCR was used to determine the methylation status of the APC promoter gene in 50 bladder carcinoma patients and 50 apparently healthy individuals.
