Background And Purpose: To quantify patient-reported 2-year intestinal toxicity (IT) from pelvic nodal irradiation (PNI) for prostate cancer. The association between baseline/acute symptoms and 2-year worsening was investigated.
Materials And Methods: Patient-reported IT was prospectively assessed through the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire (IBDQ), filled in at baseline, radiotherapy mid-point and end, at 3 and 6 months and every 6 months until 5 years.

Background: Sotorasib showed a significant improvement of progression free survival (PFS), safety and quality of life over docetaxel in patients with KRASp.G12C-mutated advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) within the CodeBreak-200 study. Here we report real-world efficacy and tolerability data from NSCLC patients who received sotorasib within the Italian expanded access program (EAP).

Background: Endovascular treatment of thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms has become common, with satisfactory results. Nevertheless, long-term durability remains an issue mainly because of target visceral vessel (TVV) instability. Currently, no covered stent has been approved as a bridging stent graft (BSG), demanding continuous research on this topic.

Aims: The association between gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and common carotid artery (CCA) intima-media thickness (IMT) is still controversial. This systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to assess the correlation between GDM and CCA-IMT in and after pregnancy.
Methods: PubMed and EMBASE databases were systematically reviewed on April 2023.

Purpose: To evaluate the persistence of symptoms after radiotherapy (RT) for localised prostate cancer (PCa) and the association with quality of life (QOL).
Materials And Methods: Prospective patient-reported outcome (PRO) from a multi-institutional study on PCa treated with radical RT (2010-2014) was analysed. Data was collected at baseline (BL) and follow-ups (FUPs) up to 5 years.

Introduction: Hypophosphatasia (HPP) is a rare genetic disease caused by inactivating variants of the ALPL gene. Few data are available on the clinical presentation in Italy and/or on Italian HPP surveys.
Methods: There were 30 suspected HPP patients recruited from different Italian tertiary cares.

Background: Small-for-gestational-age (SGA) preterm infants are at increased risk of developing bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). There is limited information on pulmonary oxygen diffusion of SGA preterm infants, particularly in those without BPD.
Objective: To compare the pulmonary oxygen diffusion of SGA to that of appropriate-for-gestational-age (AGA) preterm infants without BPD.

Unlabelled: Changes in the organization of the clinical care wards, requested by the SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) pandemic, have influenced the environmental circulation of other pathogens. The implementation of prevention procedures may have led to a decrease in the incidence of healthcare-associated infections. We aimed to investigate the impact of prevention and control measures for preventing the COVID-19 spread on the incidence of bacterial sepsis and invasive fungal infections in neonates and infants requiring major surgery.

Despite advances in the therapy of Central Nervous System (CNS) malignancies, treatment of glioblastoma (GB) poses significant challenges due to GB resistance and high recurrence rates following post-operative radio-chemotherapy. The majority of prognostic and predictive GB biomarkers are currently developed using tumour samples obtained through surgical interventions. However, the selection criteria adopted by different neurosurgeons to determine which cases are suitable for surgery make operated patients not representative of all GB cases.

The invasive nature of glioblastoma is problematic in a radical surgery approach and can be responsible for tumor recurrence. In order to create new therapeutic strategies, it is imperative to have a better understanding of the mechanisms behind tumor growth and invasion. The continuous cross-talk between glioma stem cells (GSCs) and the tumor microenvironment (TME) contributes to disease progression, which renders research in this field difficult and challenging.

NPM1-mutated acute myeloid leukaemia (NPM1 AML) represents a mostly favourable/intermediate risk disease that benefits from allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in case of measurable residual disease (MRD) relapse or persistence after induction chemotherapy. Although the negative prognostic role of pre-HSCT MRD is established, no recommendations are available for the management of peri-transplant molecular failure (MF). Based on the efficacy data of venetoclax (VEN)-based treatment in NPM1 AML older patients, we retrospectively analysed the off-label combination of VEN plus azacitidine (AZA) as bridge-to-transplant strategy in 11 NPM1 MRD-positive fit AML patients.

Background: A number of anterior chest wall deformities, most notably pectus excavatum (PE), may have a detrimental effect on cardiac motion and function. Interpretation of transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and speckle-tracking echocardiography (STE) results may be hampered by the possible influence of PE on cardiac kinetics.
Methods: A comprehensive search of all articles assessing cardiac function in PE individuals was carried out.

Patients with pulmonary embolism are a heterogeneous population and, after the acute phase and the first 3-6 months, the main issue is whether to continue, and hence how long and at what dose, or to stop anticoagulation therapy. In patients with venous thromboembolism (VTE), direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are the recommended treatment (class I, level of evidence B in the latest European guidelines), and in most cases, an "extended" or "long-term" low-dose therapy is warranted. This paper aims to provide a practical management tool to the clinician dealing with pulmonary embolism follow-up: from the evidence behind the most used exams (D-dimer, ultrasound Doppler of the lower limbs, imaging tests, recurrence and bleeding risk scores), and the use of DOACs in the extended phase, to six real clinical scenarios with the relative management in the acute phase and at follow-up.

Background: Diastolic dysfunction (DD) assessment in heart failure is still challenging. Peak atrial longitudinal strain (PALS) is strongly related to end-diastolic pressure and prognosis, but it is still not part of standard DD assessment. We tested the hypothesis that a machine learning approach would be useful to include PALS in DD classification and refine prognostic stratification.

Background: Arch pathology represents one of the last frontiers in aortic aneurysm endovascular management. Several companies recently developed dedicated branched and fenestrated endografts specifically designed for the aortic arch, aiming to overcome some of the issues associated with standard thoracic endograft and supra-aortic vessels extra-anatomic debranching. This study aimed to evaluate early outcomes obtained with a custom-made fenestrated endograft approved for thoracic aortic aneurysms exclusion.

Background: In the phase III PAOLA-1 study, the addition of maintenance olaparib to bevacizumab in patients with newly diagnosed high-grade ovarian cancer (HGOC) resulted in prolonged progression-free survival (PFS), particularly for homologous recombination deficiency-positive tumors, including those with a BRCA mutation (BRCAm). The magnitude of benefit from olaparib and bevacizumab according to the location of mutation in BRCA1/BRCA2 remains to be explored.
Patients And Methods: Patients with advanced-stage HGOC responding after platinum-based chemotherapy + bevacizumab received maintenance therapy bevacizumab (15 mg/kg q3w for 15 months) + either olaparib (300 mg b.

Background: Mid-term durability of branches has already been established, and BF-branched and fenestrated endovascular repair has shown comparable results with open repair in the treatment of thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms (TAAAs). Nevertheless, target vessel instability remains the most frequent adverse event after complex endovascular aortic repair. Type III endoleaks from directional branches have been reported with a low incidence, but risk factors for this complication have not been investigated yet.
