Introduction: In the first years of nursing profession, new-graduate nurses' turnover intention is a relevant issue due to both the tangible and intangible costs it generates to health care organizations, such as selection and recruitment costs, ward team burden in the onboarding process and the possibility to enhance ward team stability in order to provide an effective and safe nusing care. Organizational socialization is the main factor involved in these dynamics of turnover intention in the first years of nursing profession.

Aims: This study aims to identify the main factors involved in the organizational socialization process to reduce turnover intention in the first 3 years of nursing profession.

Background: Beta-blockers (BB) are recommended in secondary prevention of acute myocardial infarction (AMI), but adherence to prescription medication is a recognized problem. Most literature on the consequences of poor adherence to prescribed BB is limited by the possibility of "healthy adherer bias" and better-designed studies have been advocated.

Methods And Results: We investigated the association between adherence to BB prescription and risk of subsequent AMIs using the self-controlled case series design, which allows improved control of interpersonal confounding, being based on intrapersonal comparisons.

It has been proven that both resting and activated mast cells (MCs) and basophils are able to induce a significant increase in proliferation and survival of naïve and activated B cells, and their differentiation into antibody-producing cells. The immunological context in which this regulation occurs is of particular interest and the idea that these innate cells induce antibody class switching and production is increasingly gaining ground. This direct role of MCs and basophils in acquired immunity requires cell to cell contact as well as soluble factors and exosomes.

Department of Medical and Biological Sciences, Udine University, Udine, Italy; SOC Centro di Coordinamento per le Malattie rare, Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Udine, Udine, Italy.

The relative effects of prenatal and postnatal low-level mercury exposure and fish intake on child neurodevelopment are still controversial. Limited evidence is available from Mediterranean populations. In this prospective study, we measured the Verbal and Performance IQ in Italian children at school-age who were resident in an area declared as a National contaminated site because of mercury pollution, taking into account the possible beneficial effect of fish consumption and potential confounders.

Regional Agency for Health and Social Care of Emilia-Romagna, Viale Aldo Moro 21, 40127 Bologna, Italy; Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Udine, Italy. Electronic address:

Background: Trauma Centres (TC) are expected to have a lower mortality - after controlling for injury-severity - than non-designated hospitals in order to justify their funding. This benefit has been demonstrated in the USA not long ago, while the evidence from other settings is still limited. We evaluated the mortality benefit of TC care in an Italian setting, where the first Trauma System with designated TCs was instituted six years ago.

Depending on their amplitude and frequency, vibrations may facilitate bleeding and worsen the prognosis of patients with pelvic fractures transported by helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS). We measured the range of frequencies and amplitudes of forced vibrations produced by the helicopter used by the HEMS of the Italian Friuli Venezia Giulia region on the pelvis of transported persons. We performed 3 flight tests with 3 different volunteers (mass 70, 80, and 90 kg, respectively) loaded on the helicopter's stretcher and recorded the amplitudes and frequencies of vibrations through a triaxis sensor placed on the HEMS stretcher in the pelvis area.

Division of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation & Department of Experimental and Clinical Medical Sciences, Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Udine, P.zzale S. M. Misericordia, 15, 33100 Udine, Italy.

We retrospectively analysed 78 patients with relapsed (n = 38), primary refractory (n = 34) or untreated (n = 6) acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) who underwent allogeneic HSCT at our Institution between 2002 and 2011, to verify outcome and to identify factors that can affect long-term outcome. Myeloablative conditioning regimens were used in 48 patients (24 siblings, 24 matched unrelated donor (MUD)), while 30 patients (18 siblings, 12 MUD) received reduced-intensity conditioning. Acute graft versus host disease (GVHD) developed in 37 (47 %) patients, while chronic GVHD occurred in 19 of the 65 evaluable patients (29 %).

Benign angiopathy of the central nervous system is a clinical syndrome with evidence of reversible cerebral vasoconstriction (RCVS). Haemorrhagic stroke, either subarachnoid or intracerebral is an unusual presentation of RCVS. We describe a case of RCVS presenting with a subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH), with rebleeding and onset of hydrocephalus during the first week, and, notably, delayed evidence of typical angiographic features after two negative prior exams.

Estrogen deficit in postmenopausal women causes urogenital atrophy, which is responsible for a wide range of urinary disorders (urinary incontinence, urge incontinence, recurrent urinary infections) and genital disorders (prolapse, dispareunya, vaginal dryness). The efficacy of estrogen therapy on urinary incontinence is not yet demonstrated, but it is widely recognized that the topical use of estrogens lowers the risk of recurrent urinary infections and improves urogenital atrophy.

Introduction: Thermoregulation of critically ill patients during helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) transport can be influenced by the flight, increasing the risk of hypothermia. However, the literature is unclear as to whether temperature decrease among those patients is affected by the flight itself or by the patients' clinical status and therapies. We evaluated the effect of helicopter flight on the body temperature of the healthy members of the HEMS crew of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, Italy.
