The first 1000 days of human life start from conception until the child turns 2 years of age. This is a unique period in which the foundations of a child's lifelong health are built. Disadvantaged socioeconomic circumstances and limited access to health care services can globally affect a child's health outcomes and educational and vocational potential.

Methods: We launched a multicenter, retrospective, observational study to assess and compare clinical efficacy of II-line treatments for patients with mCRC.

Background: Intracranial atherosclerosis accounts for about 8% of all strokes in Western societies but the influence of arterial calcification on plaque instability is a topic on ongoing debate.

Purpose: Explore the association between the presence and burden of calcium in atherosclerotic plaques among intracranial arteries with the risk of clinical or silent stroke events through a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Data Sources: Adhering to PRISMA guidelines, studies from PubMed and Embase were analyzed up to May 2024.

An update on ocular effects of anti-diabetic medications.

The global increase in the prevalence of type 2 diabetes has led to the development and implementation of new classes of anti-diabetic medications, introducing advanced therapeutic options for the management of the disease. These new medications, though primarily designed to regulate blood glucose levels, also have applications in weight management, potentially transforming the current approaches to diabetes treatment. Newer medications, however, have ophthalmic side effects with controversies in trials and real-life data.

Current trends and evidence on post-TEVAR aorto-pulmonary and -bronchial fistula: a narrative review.

Introduction: Aorto-bronchial or aorto-pulmonary fistulas (ABPF) are a rare but life-threatening complication following thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR). This narrative review aims to provide an overview of the current trends and available evidence on ABPF following TEVAR, evaluating risk factors, diagnostic approaches, and possible preventive and therapeutic strategies.

Methods: Relevant publications on post-TEVAR ABPF were selected through a literature search on PubMed.

Print-Light-Synthesis of ruthenium oxide thin film electrodes for electrochemical sensing applications.

Print-Light-Synthesis (PLS) combines the inkjet printing of a ruthenium precursor ink with the simultaneous photo-induced generation of ruthenium oxide films. During PLS, inkjet-printing generates on conductive as well as insulating substrates micrometer-thin reaction volumes that contain with high precision defined precursor loadings. Upon direct UV light irradiation, the Ru precursor converts to RuO while all other ink components escape in the gas phase.

At the Fifth Assisi Think Tank Meeting (ATTM) on breast cancer, one key topic was the role of tumor bed boost in invasive breast cancer and ductal carcinoma in situ. The need for a tumor bed boost after whole breast irradiation is controversial. A literature review assessed boost indications, target volume definition, techniques, dose fractionation, and ongoing trials.

Safety of topical estrogen therapy during adjuvant endocrine treatment among patients with breast cancer: A meta-analysis based expert panel discussion.

Importance: Endocrine treatments, such as Tamoxifen (TAM) and/or Aromatase inhibitors (AI), are the adjuvant therapy of choice for hormone-receptor positive breast cancer. These agents are associated with menopausal symptoms, adversely affecting drug compliance. Topical estrogen (TE) has been proposed for symptom management, given its' local application and presumed reduced bioavailability, however its oncological safety remains uncertain.

Case Report: 18F-FDG PET/CT for FUO Due to Whipple Disease Infection.

We present the case of a 60-year-old man admitted to the hospital presenting with high FUO (fever of unknown origin), strong headache, face erythematous-desquamative cutaneous lesions, long history of abdominal pain, and diffuse myalgia. He was also previously treated with immunosuppressants and currently managed with corticosteroids for a seronegative rheumatic disease. Given the immunocompromised state, an infective etiology was suspected.

Background: To assess the impact of attaining aggressive beta-lactam pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) targets on clinical efficacy in critical orthotopic liver transplant (OLT) recipients with documented early Gram-negative infections.

Methods: OLT recipients admitted to the post-transplant ICU between June 2021 and May 2024 having documented Gram-negative infections treated with targeted therapy continuous infusion (CI) beta-lactams, and undergoing therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM)-guided beta-lactam dosing adjustment in the first 72 hours were prospectively enrolled. Free steady-state concentrations (fCss) of beta-lactams (BL) and/or of beta-lactamase inhibitors (BLI) were calculated, and aggressive PK/PD target attainment was measured.

18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose Uptake in PDGFRA-Mutant Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors.

Importance: The D842V platelet-derived growth factor receptor α (PDGFRA) mutation identifies a molecular subgroup of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), primarily resistant to standard tyrosine kinase inhibitors and with an overall more indolent behavior. Although functional imaging with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose-labeled positron emission tomography ([18F]FDG-PET) plays a proven role in GISTs, especially in early assessment of tumor response, less is known about [18F]FDG uptake according to the GIST molecular subtypes.

Objective: To evaluate the degree of [18F]FDG uptake in PDGFRA-mutant GISTs and better define the role of functional imaging in this rare and peculiar subset of GISTs.

Background: Lung neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) represent about 20% of all lung cancers. Few therapeutic options are available for atypical carcinoids (ACs). Single-agent temozolomide (TEM) is active in lung NENs, but whether the addition of capecitabine (CAPTEM) is associated with improved outcomes, is unknown.

Background/objectives: ZNF711(Zinc finger protein 711) encodes a zinc finger protein of currently undefined function, located on the X chromosome. Current knowledge includes a limited number of case reports where this gene has been exclusively associated with X-linked intellectual disability (XLID). Computational nuclear oncology for precision radiopharmaceutical therapy (RPT) is a new frontier for theranostic treatment personalization. A key strategy relies on the possibility to incorporate clinical, biomarker, image-based, and dosimetric information in theranostic digital twins (TDTs) of patients to move beyond a one-size-fits-all approach. The TDT framework enables treatment optimization by real-time monitoring of the real-world system, simulation of different treatment scenarios, and prediction of resulting treatment outcomes, as well as facilitating collaboration and knowledge sharing among health care professionals adopting a harmonized TDT.

About one out of two diabetic patients develop diabetic neuropathy (DN), of these 20% experience neuropathic pain (NP) leading to individual, social, and health-economic burden. Risk factors for NP are largely unknown; however, premature aging was recently associated with several chronic pain disorders. DNA methylation-based biological age (DNAm) is associated with disease risk, morbidity, and mortality in different clinical settings.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the safety and feasibility of SVCI in patients with atrial fibrillation undergoing pulsed field ablation (PFA) METHODS: Six hundred sixteen consecutive patients undergoing PFA for pulmonary vein isolation plus SVCI were included in this multicenter analysis.
