Background: Despite the low spatial resolution of 2D-multisegment late gadolinium enhancement (2D-MSLGE) sequences, it may be useful in uncooperative patients instead of standard 2D single segmented inversion recovery gradient echo late gadolinium enhancement sequences (2D-SSLGE). The aim of the study is to assess the feasibility and comparison of 2D-MSLGE reconstructed with artificial intelligence reconstruction deep learning noise reduction (NR) algorithm compared to standard 2D-SSLGE in consecutive patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM).

Methods: Fifty-seven patients with known ICM referred for a clinically indicated CMR were enrolled in this study.

Subjective experience of aberrant salience in young people at Ultra-High Risk (UHR) for psychosis: a cross-sectional study.

Nord J Psychiatry

February 2022

Department of Medicine, Division of Psychiatry, Clinical Psychology and Rehabilitation, University of Perugia, Perugia, Italy.

Purpose: Aberrant salience (AS) is conceptualized as a potential predisposing factor for psychotic states of mind. Despite several studies in the general population, research on AS in the early phases of psychosis is still relatively scarce. The aim of this cross-sectional study is (1) to evaluate the AS subjective experience in Ultra-High Risk (UHR) adolescents and young adults compared to help-seeking peers with First Episode Psychosis (FEP) and (2) to assess any significant association of baseline AS with psychopathology and functioning in UHR participants.

Background Fibromuscolar dysplasia (FMD) is an idiopathic, non-atherosclerotic and non-inflammatory stenotic lesion of renal arteries causing renovascular hypertension up-regulating renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. Case report: A 18-year-old man was referred to our Hypertension Center (Clinica e Terapia Medica) for the recent onset of hypertension, poorly controlled on calcium channel blockers, already associated to electrocardiographic and echocardiography signs of left ventricular hypertrophy and significant albuminuria (728 mg/24 h). An increased plasma renin activity (PRA), aldosterone level and a mild hypokalemia raised the suspicion of renovascular hypertension.

Article Synopsis
  • Nephropathy is a serious complication of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) linked to increased albuminuria and decreased glomerular filtration rate (GFR), with varying progression rates to severe kidney disease among patients.
  • In a study of 410 newly diagnosed T2DM patients, researchers tracked changes in eGFR over an average of 12.4 years, finding that about 11.4% experienced rapid declines in eGFR.
  • The study concluded that albuminuria is a strong predictor of rapid eGFR decline, which could help in identifying patients at risk and potentially slowing the progression of kidney damage.

  • - This study looked at the effectiveness of colchicine in treating COVID-19 by comparing outcomes between 71 patients who received the drug and 70 who did not.
  • - Results showed that patients on colchicine had significantly lower mortality (7.5% vs. 28.5%) and improved clinical recovery compared to the control group, suggesting it helps counteract severe inflammation.
  • - The findings indicate that colchicine might reduce death rates and aid recovery in COVID-19 patients, supporting the need for larger studies to further explore its safety and efficacy.

The goal of this paper was the comparison of radiation dose and imaging quality before and after the Clarity IQ technology installation in a Philips AlluraXper FD20/20 angiography system using a Channelized Hotelling Observer model (CHO). The core characteristics of the Allura Clarity IQ technology are its real-time noise reduction algorithms (NRT) combined with state-of-the-art hardware; this technology allows to implement acquisition protocols able to significantly reduce patient entrance dose. To measure the system performances in terms of image quality we used a contrast detail phantom in a clinical scatter condition.

Incidence of emergency access due to retained large rectal foreign bodies is increased in the last years. Such situations are a challenge because often, due to their size and physical characteristics, the large foreign bodies of the rectum cannot be extracted manually or by endoscopy, thus requiring surgery, as reported in the literature. We report a case of a 59-old male with a retention of a large vegetable rectal foreign body (whole eggplant) successfully subjected to endoscopic removal without the need for surgery.
