Laboratory of Neurorehabilitation Technologies, San Camillo IRCCS srl, via Alberoni 70, 30126 Venice, Italy. Electronic address:

Introduction: Despite many devices are helpful for motion analysis, there is still no established standard technique for the assessment of cervical spine mobility.

Objective: To compare differences in using immersive or non-immersive virtual reality (VR) for the assessment of the sensorimotor movement of the cervical spine in healthy subjects.

Methods: Thirty-five healthy adults were asked to perform head rotation, flexion, extension, lateral flexion, reaching and repositioning tasks with the head.

Ewing sarcoma (ES) and Ewing-like sarcomas are highly aggressive round cell mesenchymal neoplasms, most often occurring in children and young adults. The identification of novel molecular alterations has greatly contributed to a profound reappraisal of classification, to the extent that the category of undifferentiated round cell sarcoma has significantly shrunk. In fact, in addition to Ewing sarcoma, we currently recognize three main categories: round cell sarcomas with EWSR1 gene fusion with non-ETS family members, CIC-rearranged sarcomas, and BCOR-rearranged sarcomas.

Critical limb ischemia (CLI) is the most advanced stage of peripheral arterial disease. It is clinically defined as rest pain with or without skin ulcer or gangrene and carries a very poor prognosis with a high rates of limb amputation and cardiovascular mortality. Despite the first definition of CLI has been published more than 30 years ago, the debate about what it really is, is still open.

Background: Dolutegravir (DTG) plus boosted darunavir (bDRV) is a compact, adherence-friendly salvage regimen with the highest genetic barrier to HIV-1 resistance.

Objective: Aim of the present study is to assess the long term (96-week) safety and efficacy of DTG + bDRV in a of multidrug-experienced HIV-1 infected patients, simplifying or building rescue regimens.

Methods: All HIV-1-infected subjects from eleven Italian centers switched to DTG + bDRV between March 2014 and September 2015 were included and followed for minimum 96 weeks.

: We evaluated the efficacy and safety of a two-drug regimen including dolutegravir (DTG) and unboosted atazanavir (uATV) in 151 HIV-1 infected patients with HIV-RNA of more than 50 copies/ml. During a median follow-up of 62 (42-97) weeks, two virological failures (1%) and 13 treatment discontinuations (9%) occurred; the 48-week probability of virological failure was 0.8% (95% confidence interval 0.

The wavelet analysis has been applied to the Laser Doppler Fluxmetry for assessing the frequency spectrum of the flowmotion to study the microvascular function waves.Although the application of wavelet analysis has allowed a detailed evaluation of the microvascular function, its use does not seem to be yet widespread over the last two decades.Aiming to improve the diffusion of this methodology, we herein present a systematic review of the literature about the application of the wavelet analysis to the laser Doppler fluxmetry signal.

Background: Geriatric Patients Living with HIV/AIDS (GEPPO) is a new prospective observational multicentre cohort consisting of all the HIV-positive geriatric patients being treated at 10 clinics in Italy, and HIV-negative controls attending a single geriatric clinic. The aim of this analysis of the GEPPO cohort was to compare prevalence and risk factors of individual non-communicable diseases (NCD), multi-morbidity (MM) and polypharmacy (PP) amongst HIV positive and HIV negative controls at enrolment into the GEPPO cohort.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted between June 2015 and May 2016.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aims to enhance the pre-surgical diagnosis of thyroid nodules by incorporating clinical, biochemical, and morphological parameters alongside cytology.
  • - It analyzed 902 patients and found that cancer was present in 48% of cases, with varying effectiveness of cytology depending on how certain criteria (TIR4-5 vs. TIR3) were classified, affecting sensitivity and specificity.
  • - The research concluded that combining cytology with clinical and ultrasound data improves diagnosis, but emphasizes the need for better diagnostic tools in this area.

In this review 14 studies were identified reporting the treatment strategy in 4891 patients with Critical Limb Ischemia (CLI) with the aim to investigate if the strategy of treatment of the first episode of CLI has changed during the last 15-20 years. A computer research has been performed on PubMed and Scopus databases on November 2016. The used terms for the investigation about studies evaluating the strategy of treatment of CLI at the first-time presentation, have been "critical leg ischemia", "critical limb ischemia", "critical lower limb ischemia" along with the terms "placebo", "medical treatment" and/or "conservative" revascularisation, surgical revascularisation, endovascular revascularisation, hybrid revascularisation and primary amputation.

Mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS) represent a group of rare lysosomal storage disorders, with a heterogeneous clinical presentation in terms of inheritance (autosomal and X-linked recessive), age of onset (infants, children, and adults), systemic and cardiac manifestations (mild to severe disease forms). Evidence-based recommendations on the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease in MPS are scarce. GICEM (Gruppo Italiano Cardiologi Esperti Malattie Metaboliche) is a group of cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and pediatricians with a specific expertise in metabolic diseases including MPS.

The neurodevelopmental impact of fentanyl given to preterm newborns for pain control is still unknown. The aim of this study was to assess the neurodevelopmental impact of 2 regimens of fentanyl administration by a prospective follow-up evaluation. In our previous multicenter, double-blind, randomized controlled trial, 131 mechanically ventilated newborns (gestational age ≤32 weeks) were randomized to fentanyl (continuous infusion of fentanyl + open label boluses of fentanyl) or placebo (continuous infusion of placebo + open label boluses of fentanyl).
