Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Azad University of Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran; Department of Medicinal Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences, Kermanshah 67145-1673, Islamic Republic of Iran. Electronic address:

In this work, the interaction of two synthetic pyrethroid insecticides, permethrin (PER) and deltamethrin (DEL), with ct-DNA has been studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV), circular dichroism (CD), competitive fluorescence, atomic force microscopy (AFM), UV-vis spectroscopy, thermodynamic measurements, Fourier-transform infra-red (FT-IR), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and two-layered ONIOM (our N-layered integrated molecular orbital+molecular mechanics) (DFT B3LYP, 6-31++G(d, p):UFF) molecular modeling methods. The last four methods were also utilized to study the binding of DEL with DNA. The results revealed that the PER may interact through partial intercalation and groove binding process while the PER only interacts through groove binding.

The FNA (fine needle aspiration) procedure is simple, inexpensive, available and a safe method for the diagnosis of a neck mass. FNA has numerous advantages over open surgical biopsies as an initial diagnostic tool; therefore we decided to compare the accuracy of this method with open biopsy. This retrospective as well as descriptive study comparing preoperative FNA results with existing data in the Pathology Department in Bu-Ali and Amir Alam Hospitals.

Purpose: The behavior of trigeminocardiac reflex (TCR) during maxillofacial surgeries has not yet been sufficiently studied and knowledge of its behavior is limited to some case reports. The present study aimed to assess the occurrence of TCR in bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy and to determine the possible effect of Gow-Gates block on its incidence.

Materials And Methods: Twenty candidates for bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (included were American Society of Anesthesiologists I Class III patients with a prognathism of 3 to 5 mm) were given routine general anesthesia after at least 12 hours of fasting.

The presence of adequate gingiva with firm attachment to the underlying periosteum and bone is important for the overall long-term success of implant-supported oral rehabilitation. In the presence of an atrophic edentulous mandible, peri-implant soft tissue management is a challenging task. Therefore, mucosal grafts are sometimes necessary in patients with insufficient attached gingiva around abutments.

Oral Surg Oral Med Oral Pathol Oral Radiol Endod

August 2009

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, School of Dental Medicine, Azad University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran.

Trigeminocardiac reflex (TCR) is a shocking event in the course of operation involving the maxillofacial area. The authors have tried to present an overview on the history, clinical implications, literature review, anatomic and biologic basis, predisposing and triggering factors, and management of the event. Being familiar with the presentations, preventive measures, and management procedures are seemingly the most important aspects of the TCR to oral and maxillofacial surgeons and anesthesiologists.

The mucosal membrane of the oral cavity displays at times classical developmental lesions considered to be variations of normal structures rather than having disease characteristics. Of these lesions leukoedema, Fordyce granules, geographic-, fissured- and hairy tongue, median rhomboid glossitis and lingual varices were studied in 598 patients referred to the School of Dentistry, Tehran, Iran. The prevalence was studied in relation to age, gender, occupation, education, smoking habits, general health, addictions and or drug therapies.

Department of Internal Medicine, Shahid Labbafinejad Medical Center, Shahid Beheshti University (MC) and Azad University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran.

Intrathoracic kidney is a rare congenital anomaly, with only about 50 cases reported in the literature to date. It comprises less than 5% of all ectopic kidney disorders. However, it should be included in the differential diagnosis of posterior mediastinal masses as confirmation of the diagnosis obviates the need for further clinical studies, further treatment, or unnecessary surgical operation.
