Purpose: Starting in 2019, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused an epidemic that was growing rapidly and has harmed millions of people globally. It has been demonstrated that survivin regulates lymphocyte survival, a main route involved in COVID-19 pathogenesis. Survivin belongs to the inhibitor of apoptosis protein (IAP) family, and its primary functions comprise regulating mitosis and inhibiting apoptosis.

The water-soluble fraction of crude oil is a complex and toxic mixture of hydrocarbons. Because aquatic organisms directly encounter it, the water-soluble fraction plays an important role in the toxicity of crude oil in aquatic environments. To determine whether fish are attracted to or avoid the water-soluble fraction, Caspian roaches (Rutilus caspicus) were exposed to different concentrations of the water-soluble fraction in a choice maze apparatus.

A metabolic network model for Clostridium butyricum was developed using six different carbon sources (sucrose, fructose, galactose, mannose, trehalose and ribose) to study the fermentative H2 production. The model was used for investigation of H2 production and the ability of growth on different substrates to predict the maximum abilities for fermentative H2 production that each substrate can support. NADH fluxes were calculated by the model as an important cofactor affecting on H2 production.

Background: Patients with diabetes mellitus type II suffer from hyperglycemia because they are not able to use the insulin that they produce, often due to inadequate function of insulin receptors. There are some evidences that this deficiency is inherited in a dominant autosomal manner and leads to the malfunction of the pancreatic beta cells resulting in insulin excretion disorders. In this study, we sought to identify mutations in the insulin receptor (INSR) gene, which can cause insulin resistance in type II diabetic patients.

Background: The influence of sociocultural variables, pre-existing conditions of general, oral and dental health and hormonal changes on periodontal status during pregnancy has been reported in some clinical studies and there has been speculation about the effects of these parameters on periodontal health during pregnancy.
Materials And Methods: This study evaluates the periodontal condition (plaque index, gingival index, probing pocket depth and clinical attachment level) of 140 pregnant women and its relationship to demographic (age, professional level and education) and clinical variables (previous pregnancy, gestation period, previous periodontal maintenance, previous live births and health status). All periodontal data were recorded by the same examiner.
