The environmental impact of methane, a greenhouse gas emitted from ruminants, is a pressing issue and methods to control methane emissions from ruminants are being investigated worldwide. In this study, we investigated the effects of the administration of spent coffee grounds (SCG) on methane production in the rumen in two cows. In the control condition (days 1 and 2), the cows were fed a basic diet twice daily (roughage and concentrate), and in the SCG condition (days 1 and 2) sequentially, the cows were fed the same basic diet and administered SCG into the rumen twice daily.

The present study examines whether the systemic application of naringenin (NRG) reduces inflammation-induced hyperexcitability in the spinal trigeminal nucleus caudalis (SpVc) related to hyperalgesia, and compares its impact with that of diclofenac (DIC). To provoke inflammation, the whisker pads of rats were injected with complete Freund's adjuvant, and subsequently, mechanical stimuli were administered to the orofacial region to determine the escape threshold. Compared to naïve rats, the inflamed rats showed a significantly lower mechanical threshold, and this reduced threshold returned to normal levels two days post-administration of NRG, DIC, and half-dose DIC plus half-dose NRG (1/2 DIC + 1/2 NRG).

Understanding the mechanism underlying the evolution of knuckle-walking in African great apes but not in humans may provide important implications about the origin and evolution of human bipedal locomotion. In this study, aiming to reveal possible structural adaptations of the chimpanzee's forearm and hand musculature related to knuckle-walking, we measure the passive elastic moment of the chimpanzee's and orangutan's wrist as it was rotated into extension, immobilizing the metacarpophalangeal joint at three different positions: extended (as in knuckle-walking), flexed (as in fist-walking), and an intermediate position. Our findings demonstrate that when the metacarpophalangeal joints are extended, the rigidity of the wrist joint in the extended direction increases.
