Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common subtype of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Because individual clinical outcomes of DLBCL in response to standard therapy differ widely, new treatment strategies are being investigated to improve therapeutic efficacy. In this study, we identified a novel signature for stratification of DLBCL useful for prognosis prediction and treatment selection.

The clonal triploid ginbuna crucian carp Carassius auratus langsdorfii, a naturally occurring gynogenetic fish, is suitable for cell transplantation studies to reveal the roles of stem cells and immune cells. To ensure long-term traceability of donor cells within recipient fish, we have established a transgenic ginbuna line that expresses green fluorescent protein (GFP). The Xenopus laevis ef1a promoter was introduced for regulating GFP expression.

Three types of adipocytes, white, brown, and beige, regulate the systemic energy balance through the storage and expenditure of chemical energy. In addition, adipocytes produce various bioactive molecules known as adipokines. In contrast to white adipocyte-derived molecules, less information is available on the adipokines produced by brown adipocytes (batokine).

Hepcidin negatively regulates systemic iron levels by inhibiting iron entry into the circulation. Hepcidin production is increased in response to an increase in systemic iron via the activation of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) pathway. Regulation of hepcidin expression by iron status has been proposed on the basis of evidence mainly from rodents and humans.

YTH domain-containing 2 (YTHDC2) is known to be an important regulator for RNA metabolism. Here, we show that YTHDC2 is essential for breast cancer tumorigenesis and metastasis. We examined YTHDC2 expression levels by immunohistochemistry in human breast tumor tissues from 99 patients and found a significantly positive correlation between the YTHDC2 expression level and the tumor stage.

Hepcidin activity is largely determined by its expression, which is regulated at the transcriptional level. Purpose: Intraoperative complications, especially unexpected bleeding, are of great concern in the safety of thoracoscopic surgery. We investigated the hemostatic efficacy and safety of positive intrapleural pressure (PIP) with carbon dioxide insufflation by assessing the amount of blood loss in a pulmonary arterial hemorrhage model.
Methods: An ex vivo experimental model of saline flow into a swine vessel was created in a container simulating a chest cavity.

Carnosine, which is abundant in meat, is a dipeptide composed of β-alanine and histidine, known to afford various health benefits. Brown/beige adipocytes, which are derived from skeletal muscle/smooth muscle-lineage cells, consume excess energy as heat through the expression of mitochondrial uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1). Previous studies have shown that forced expression of PR/SET domain (PRDM)-16 or early B-cell factor (EBF)-2 induced UCP1-positive adipocytes in C2C12 myogenic cells. Here, we explored the culture conditions to induce Ucp1 expression in C2C12 cells without introducing exogenous genes.

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are fat-soluble environmental pollutants that can accumulate in adipose tissue or be secreted in milk. N-butyl-4-(hydroxy butyl) (BBN), a rat bladder carcinogen, recruits the host metabolism to yield its ultimate carcinogenic form via CYP1s. Since estrogen receptors (ERs) mediate biological responses important for the growth of bladder carcinoma, we investigated PCNA, Cyclin D1, ERs, CYP1s, and AhR expression in BBN rat bladder carcinomas with prenatal PCB exposure.

Activin B, a homodimer of the inhibin βB subunit, acts as a regulator of gonadal function and as an adipokine. To clarify the role of activin B in dogs, we characterized the canine inhibin βB gene and signalling pathways regulated by the canine inhibin βB. Using 5'- and 3'-rapid amplification of cDNA end (RACE) and RT-PCR on RNA isolated from the ovary of dogs, we identified short and long forms of the inhibin βB gene.
