Extracellular vesicles (EV) derived from stem cells have become an effective complement to the use in cell therapy of stem cells themselves, which has led to an explosion of research into the mechanisms of vesicle formation and their action. There is evidence demonstrating the presence of mitochondrial components in EV, but a definitive conclusion about whether EV contains fully functional mitochondria has not yet been made. In this study, two EV fractions derived from mesenchymal stromal stem cells (MSC) and separated by their size were examined.

Autoimmune diseases usually arise as a result of an aberrant immune system attack on normal tissues of the body, which leads to a cascade of inflammatory reactions. The immune system employs different types of protective and anti-inflammatory cells for the regulation of this process. Curcumin is a known natural anti-inflammatory agent that inhibits pathological autoimmune processes by regulating inflammatory cytokines and their associated signaling pathways in immune cells.

Adverse cardiovascular disease (CVD) outcomes, such as sudden cardiac death, acute myocardial infarction, and stroke, are often catastrophic. Statins are frequently used to attenuate the risk of CVD-associated morbidity and mortality through their impact on lipids and they may also have anti-inflammatory and other plaque-stabilization effects via different signaling pathways. Different statins, including atorvastatin, rosuvastatin, pravastatin, pitavastatin, and simvastatin, are administered to manage circulatory lipid levels.

Several recent cardiovascular trials of SGLT 2 (sodium-glucose cotransporter 2) inhibitors revealed that they could reduce adverse cardiovascular events in patients with T2DM (type 2 diabetes mellitus). However, the exact molecular mechanism underlying the beneficial effects that SGLT2 inhibitors have on the cardiovascular system is still unknown. In this review, we focus on the molecular mechanisms of the mitochondria-mediated beneficial effects of SGLT2 inhibitors on the cardiovascular system.

It was found that the main mechanisms of disruptive action of DDT leading to a decrease in epinephrine secretion into systemic circulation are a decrease in the growth rate of the adrenal medulla, a decrease in the number of mitochondria in adrenal cells, especially under the outer cytoplasmic membrane, destructive changes in mitochondria, and a progressive decrease in the synthesis of tyrosine hydroxylase. The decrease in the number of mitochondria and suppression tyrosine hydroxylase synthesis in adrenal cells predominate during the pubertal period, while slowdown of the growth of the adrenal medulla and progressive decrease in the synthesis of tyrosine hydroxylase seem to be the most evident mechanisms after puberty.

The rapid elimination of systemically administered drug nanocarriers by the mononuclear phagocyte system (MPS) compromises nanomedicine delivery efficacy. To mitigate this problem, an approach to block the MPS has been introduced and implemented by intravenous pre-administering blocker nanoparticles. The required large doses of blocker nanoparticles appeared to burden the MPS, raising toxicity concerns.

Increased expression of factor Bax and reduced protein Bcl-2 synthesis in cells of the decidual membrane and decreased Oct-4 expression in the myometrium and perimetrium were detected. Thus, both spontaneous and immune-dependent abortions impair the apoptosis processes in the decidua and the formation of a pool of Oct-4 cells in the uterus.

Kruppel like factor 2 (KLF2) is a mechanosensitive transcription factor participating in the regulation of vascular endothelial cells metabolism. Activating KLF2 in endothelial cells induces eNOS (endothelial nitric oxide synthase) expression, subsequent NO (nitric oxide) release, and vasodilatory effect. In addition, many KLF2-regulated genes participate in the anti-thrombotic, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities, thereby preventing atherosclerosis development and progression.
