Objective: Sleeve gastrectomy (SG) is a widely utilized bariatric surgical procedure. It may affect various aspects of nutritional and metabolic health, including calcium (Ca) metabolism, vitamin D levels, and parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion. We aimed to investigate the effect of laparoscopic SG (LSG) on Ca metabolism parameters, vitamin D, and PTH in morbidly obese patients.

Bile leakage may develop as a result of traumatic or iatrogenic injuries of bile ducts during laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). The frequency of Luschka duct injuries during LC is extremely rare. In this case, we present a case of bile leakage due to Luschka duct injury during sleeve gastrectomy (SG) and LC.

The aim of this study was to compare perioperative and long-term oncological outcomes between laparoscopic sphincter-preserving total mesorectal excision in female patients (F-Lap-TME) and robotic sphincter-preserving total mesorectal excision in male patients (M-Rob-TME) with mid-low rectal cancer (RC). A retrospective analysis of a prospectively maintained database was performed. 170 cases (F-Lap-TME: 60 patients; M-Rob-TME: 110 patients) were performed by a single surgeon (January 2011-January 2020).

Obesity is an epidemic disease that is believed to link to other pathologies as well as life-threatening cardiovascular pathology. Here we report a case of monozygotic twins who successfully lost weight following laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy at the end of the 18-month follow-up period. We aimed to determine the factors affecting the weight loss outcome after sleeve gastrectomy in monozygotic twins.

Background: It is still controversial which left ventricular aneurysm repair technique is optimal in terms of early and late results. This study aimed to compare early postoperative outcomes for 2 surgical treatments of postinfarction left ventricular aneurysm: linear repair technique on arrested heart versus endoaneurysmorrhaphy repair with patch plasty on beating heart.

Methods: Prospectively collected data from 16 consecutive patients who underwent endoaneurysmorrhaphy repair with patch plasty on beating heart (the technique we have preferred since 2008) were compared with data from a retrospective series of 10 patients who underwent linear repair on arrested heart (the technique we preferred until 2008).

The coronary anomalies are rarely seen in clinical practice. A 47-year-old female patient presented to hospital with chest pain on exertion. The coronary angiography and cardiac tomography showed the anomalous origin of the left main from the right coronary artery.

Objectives: It is reported that creating a window from the posterior pericardium into the left pleural cavity during coronary bypass surgeries reduces postoperative late cardiac tamponades. Although late tamponades are more common after heart valve surgeries, this procedure is not generally performed. The present study investigated whether creating a window has a preventive effect on the formation of late cardiac tamponade after heart valve surgeries.

Background And Aim Of The Study: Dilatation of the STJ may cause consequent aortic insufficiency (AI) in patients with normal aortic valve, in patients with ascending aortic aneurysm. In this study, we analyzed the results of ascending aorta replacement with STJ diameter reduction to correct consequent AI in patients with ascending aortic aneurysm.

Methods: Forty-five consecutive patients who had ascending aortic aneurysm underwent replacement of ascending aorta with reduction of the STJ diameter to correct AI.

Background: Off-pump coronary artery bypass (OPCAB) grafting has the potential to reduce morbidity and mortality, compared to on-pump cardiac surgery.

Aim: We compared the early results of OPCAB lateral and posterior wall revascularisations in 'low', 'intermediate' and 'high' risk patients as defined by the EuroSCORE system.

Methods: Eighty-nine patients who underwent OPCAB with lateral and posterior wall revascularisation from January 2006 to December 2008 were included in this study.

Objective: Sternal dehiscence is a serious and potentially devastating complication. The present study compared the effects of two sternal closure techniques, simple wire technique and figure-of-eight technique, on the development and outcome of non-microbial sternal dehiscence.

Methods: Medical records of all adult patients (n=6211) that underwent cardiac operations in our clinic through median sternotomy between January 2002 and August 2008 were retrospectively reviewed for the development of non-microbial sternal dehiscence.

In search of associations between coronary artery disease and symptoms of depression and anxiety, we conducted a prospective cross-sectional study of 314 patients (age range, 19-79 yr) who had presented with chest pain. Coronary angiographic findings were classified into 5 categories (0-4), in which higher numbers indicated more severe disease. Symptoms of depression and anxiety were evaluated by the Beck depression and anxiety inventories, in which higher scores indicated more severe symptoms.

Psychological variables, such as depression and anxiety, are known as independent risk factors for coronary artery disease (CAD), suggesting the interaction of psychological and physiological factors in the development of CAD. In the present study, we analyzed the possible association between depressive and anxiety symptoms and major atherosclerotic risk factors in patients with chest pain warranting coronary angiography. The patients without CAD (n = 159) and those with CAD (n = 155) were evaluated for the severity of depression and anxiety by the symptom scales; high scores indicate severe symptoms.
