Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPARγ) is a critical regulator of adipogenesis and bone metabolism, playing complex roles in osteoporosis. This study investigates the effects of taurine and homocysteine on PPARγ, focusing on their roles in osteoclastogenesis and bone health. In-silico analyses, including molecular docking and molecular dynamic simulations, revealed that both taurine and homocysteine bind competitively to the PPARγ ligand-binding domain, exhibiting distinctive antagonistic modes, including destabilization of PPARγ's key helices H3, H4/5, H11, and H12.

Observational studies and meta-analyses have indicated a notable correlation between obesity and vitamin D deficiency, yet the causal relationship between the 2 remains contentious. This study employed a bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to explore the interrelation between obesity-associated body metrics: specifically body mass index (BMI), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), body fat percentage (BFP), whole-body fat percentage (WHF), and 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels. Instrumental variables for BMI, WHR, BFP, whole body fat mass (WFM), and 25(OH)D were carefully selected based on predefined thresholds.

Anemia and mineral and bone disorder (MBD) are significant complications of chronic kidney disease (CKD). The erythropoietin (Epo) pathway plays a key role in both of these processes in CKD. Another molecule that plays an important role in CKD-MBD is fibroblast growth factor (FGF)-23, whose main role is to maintain serum phosphate levels in the normal range, acting via its co-receptor Klotho; however, its activity may also be related to anemia and inflammation.

Adequate folate intake is required in preterm infants for rapid growth and development, but there is little evidence to back recommendations. We aimed to assess folate status in preterm infants at discharge and in early infancy, according to exposure to folate sources, particularly in those exclusively/predominantly breastfed. A prospective, multicenter, observational cohort study was conducted in the UK, involving 45 preterm infants <33 weeks' gestational age (GA) exclusively/predominantly fed human milk when approaching NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) discharge.

Background/objectives: Vitamin D is a key factor in bone metabolism, especially in patients who have suffered fractures, a group in need of a healthy bone metabolism. In Germany, a 70-year-old person requires 20 min of sun exposure daily for sufficient endogenous production in April. While this appears to be a sufficient period on paper, it raises the question of whether sufficient synthesis is achieved, given the time and the implementation of skin cancer prevention.

Metabolic-dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a progressive liver disorder that possesses metabolic dysfunction and shows steatohepatitis. Although the number of patients is globally increasing and many clinical studies have developed medicine for MASLD, most of the studies have failed due to low efficacy. One reason for this failure is the lack of appropriate animal disease models that reflect human MASLD to evaluate the potency of candidate drugs.

Molecular and Translational Immunology Laboratory, Department of Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology, Pharmacy Faculty, University of Concepcion, Concepcion 4070409, Chile.

The etiology of gallbladder cancer (GBC) is multifactorial, with chronic inflammation resulting from infections, autoimmune diseases, and lifestyle factors playing a pivotal role. Vitamin D deficiency (VDD) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of autoimmune disorders and various malignancies, including GBC. Research on autoimmune diseases highlights the anti-inflammatory properties of vitamin D, suggesting its potential to mitigate disease progression.

Latent autoimmune diabetes of adults (LADA) is the most prevalent form of autoimmune diabetes (AI-D) in adulthood; however, its accurate diagnosis and optimal treatment remain challenging. Vitamin D deficiency (VDD) is commonly observed in LADA patients, while increased vitamin D exposure through supplementation and dietary intake is associated with a reduced incidence of LADA. Although limited, case reports, case-control studies, and randomized clinical trials have examined the effects of vitamin D supplementation-alone or combined with dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP4-is)-on glucose regulation, residual β-cell function, and glutamic acid decarboxylase antibody (GADA65) levels.

A number of studies have reported an association between phosphorus, red blood cell (RBC) production, and iron metabolism. However, it is difficult to distinguish whether the effect of phosphorus is direct or through the actions of FGF23, and it is not clear whether phosphorus is positively or negatively associated with RBC production. In the present study, we investigated the effects of a) increased phosphorus load and b) phosphorus deficiency on erythropoiesis and iron metabolism in association with FGF23.
