Disordered glycemic control in women with type 2 diabetes is associated with increased TNF receptor-2 levels.

J Diabetes Complications

September 2021

Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Hypertension, Department of Medicine, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA.

Background: Evidence implicates tumor necrosis factor (TNF) in the pathophysiology of Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) through unclear mechanisms. We hypothesized that disordered glycemic control leads to TNF activation and increases in soluble-TNF (sTNF) and its receptors-1 (sTNFR1) and -2 (sTNFR2).

Methods: We characterized 265 T2D and non-diabetic Latin American subjects and assessed the relationship between the TNF system and fasting plasma glucose (FPG), hemoglobin-A1C (A1C), insulin (FPI), C-peptide and HOMA-Beta.

Patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and Latin American subjects in particular are at an increased risk of developing severe COVID-19 and mortality. Altered renal function and lower magnesium levels have been reported to play important roles in the pathophysiology of T2D. The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between renal function, serum magnesium levels and mortality in T2D patients with COVID-19.

The psychological conception of the formation of action by stages has been one of the most significant contributions to activity theory. This conception can be understood in two ways: (1) in a broad way as general psychological conception and (2) in a straight way as a conception of the process of teaching and learning according to activity theory. We propose to consider the union of these two conceptual possibilities as a general methodological proposal for the study of development.

The Expression of Hormone Receptors as a Gateway toward Understanding Endocrine Actions in Female Pelvic Floor Muscles.

Endocr Metab Immune Disord Drug Targets

January 2021

Department of Cellular Biology and Physiology, Biomedical Research Institute, National Autonomous University of Mexico, Mexico City, Mexico.

Objective: To provide an overview of the hormone actions and receptors expressed in the female pelvic floor muscles, relevant for understanding the pelvic floor disorders.

Methods: We performed a literature review focused on the expression of hormone receptors mainly in the pelvic floor muscles of women and female rats and rabbits.

Results: The impairment of the pelvic floor muscles can lead to the onset of pelvic floor dysfunctions, including stress urinary incontinence in women.

Oxidative stress is associated with several chronic diseases. It is acknowledged that molecules damaged by reactive oxygen species activate the inflammatory process and that this response increases the production of free radicals. Modifications in a diet can improve or decrease redox state markers.

Involvement of Ahr Pathway in Toxicity of Aflatoxins and Other Mycotoxins.

Front Microbiol

October 2019

Rafael Villalobos-Pietrini Laboratory of Genomic Toxicology and Environmental Chemistry, Faculty of Agrobiology, Autonomous University of Tlaxcala, Tlaxcala, Mexico.

The purpose of this review is to present information about the role of activation of aflatoxins and other mycotoxins, of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) pathway. Aflatoxins and other mycotoxins are a diverse group of secondary metabolites that can be contaminants in a broad range of agricultural products and feeds. Some species of Aspergillus, Alternaria, Penicilium, and Fusarium are major producers of mycotoxins, some of which are toxic and carcinogenic.

TiO nanoparticles affect the bacterial community structure and (Savigny, 1826) in an arable soil.

PeerJ

July 2019

Department of Biotechnology, Centro de investigación y de estudios avanzados del Instituto Politécnico Nacional, Mexico City, Mexico.

The amount of nanoparticles (NP), such as TiO, has increased substantially in the environment. It is still largely unknown, however, how NP might interact with earthworms and organic material and how this might affect the bacterial community structure and their functionality. Therefore, an arable soil was amended with TiO NP at 0, 150 or 300 mg kg and subjected to different treatments.

Design of Laccase Thermostable Mutants From Lacc 6 of Pleurotus Ostreatus.

Front Microbiol

November 2018

Division of Environmental Engineering Technology of Higher Studies of East Mexico State, Mexico City, Mexico.

Fungal laccase enzymes have a great biotechnological potential for bioremediation processes due to their ability to degrade compounds such as ρ-diphenol, aminophenols, polyphenols, polyamines, and aryldiamines. These enzymes have activity at different pH and temperature values, however, high temperatures can cause partial or total loss of enzymatic activity, so it is appropriate to do research to modify their secondary and/or tertiary structure to make them more resistant to extreme temperature conditions. , a structure of the Lacc 6 enzyme of was constructed using a laccase of as a template.

Background: Hypothyroidism has been related to low-weight births, abortion and prematurity, which have been associated with changes in the content of glycogen and vascularization of the placenta. Since hypothyroidism can cause dyslipidemia, it may affect the lipid content in the uterus affecting the development of fetuses.

Objective: To investigate the effect of hypothyroidism on the lipid levels in serum and uterus during pregnancy and their possible association with the size of fetuses.

We investigated the effects of chronic stress combined with high sucrose intake on the morphology of the adrenal glands in young rats. Male Wistar rats were fed a standard chow diet and allocated into control (C; tap water), chronic restraint stress (St), 30% sucrose diet (S30) and 30% sucrose diet + chronic restraint stress (S30 + St) groups. St consisted of 1 h daily sessions, 5 days/week for 4 weeks.

Cyclodextrin glycosyltransferase (CGTase) is an enzyme that produces cyclodextrins (CDs) from starch and related carbohydrates, producing a mixture of α-, β-, and γ-CDs in different amounts. CGTase production, mainly by sp., depends on fermentation conditions such as pH, temperature, concentration of nutrients, carbon and nitrogen sources, among others.

Total polyphenols and flavonoids contents, as well as ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), metal ions chelating activity, reducing power assay and scavenging activity of DPPH and ABTS radicals in aqueous and methanolic extracts obtained from mycelium, primordium, and fruiting body of Pleurotus ostreatus in both fresh as dry, were evaluated. The total polyphenol content of dried samples was higher in aqueous extracts obtained both in room temperature and boiling. The total polyphenol content of the fresh samples obtained at room temperature and boiling was higher in aqueous extract of mycelium and in the methanolic extract of the fruiting body.
