Background: Multiparametric MRI (Mp-MRI) is a key tool to screen for Prostate Cancer (Pca) and Clinically Significant Prostate Cancer (CsPca). It primarily includes T2-Weighted imaging (T2w), diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), and Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced imaging (DCE). Despite its improvements in CsPca screening, concerns about the cost-effectiveness of DCE persist due to its associated side effects, increased cost, longer acquisition time, and limitations in patients with poor kidney function.

Introduction And Importance: Biliary ileus is a rare yet significant cause of mechanical intestinal obstruction, which occurs when a gallstone enters the gastrointestinal tract through a bilioenteric fistula, leading to intestinal blockage. This condition primarily affects elderly patients and is associated with high morbidity and mortality if not diagnosed and treated promptly.

Case Presentation: We present the case of a 94-year-old female with a history of hypertension and chronic venous insufficiency.

Introduction And Importance: Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is a prevalent bariatric surgery for managing morbid obesity. Despite its efficacy, complications can arise, particularly from intraoperative devices such as esophageal thermometers and orogastric tubes. These devices, if misplaced or inadequately monitored, can migrate and become entrapped or sectioned during surgery, leading to significant morbidity.

Background: The World Health Organization's (WHO) Mental Health Gap Action Programme (mhGAP) aims to provide evidence-based guidelines for the management of mental, neurological, and substance use disorders in non-specialized healthcare settings. However, implementing these guidelines remains a challenge due to various factors, including limited training opportunities for primary care providers. This study con the effectiveness of a social media-delivered distance education program on the mhGAP intervention guide, to overcome barriers of technology access and digital literacy, providing a familiar and accessible platform for primary care providers in Jalisco.

Background: Radicular cyst is a lesion of odontogenic origin that arises from epithelial remains due to periapical periodontitis caused by inflammatory reactions generated at the apex of affected teeth with infected or necrotic pulps. The therapeutic management of radicular cysts is controversial. There is only one case report of enucleation of a radicular cyst managed with microsurgery and apicoectomy, but without the use of the guided tissue regeneration (GTR) technique in the same surgical procedure.

People diagnosed with substance use disorders (SUDs) are at risk for impairment of brain function and structure. However, physicians still do not have any clinical biomarker of brain impairment that helps diagnose or treat these patients when needed. The most common method to study these patients is the classical electroencephalographic (EEG) analyses of absolute and relative powers, but this has limited individual clinical applicability.

Silver nanoparticles induce a non-immunogenic tumor cell death.

J Immunotoxicol

December 2023

Program of Immunology and Immunotherapy, Cima Universidad de Navarra, Pamplona, Spain.

Immunogenic cell death (ICD) is a form of cell death characterized by the release of danger signals required to trigger an adaptive immune response against tumor-associated antigens. Silver nanoparticles (AgNP) display anti-proliferative and cytotoxic effects in tumor cells, but it has not been previously studied whether AgNP act as an ICD inductor. The present study evaluated the release of calreticulin as a damage-associated molecular pattern (DAMP) associated with the cytotoxicity of AgNP and their anti-cancer effects.

Purpose: To examine the use of liquid-based exfoliative cytology to determine the presence of genomic instability and cell death in the oral mucosa of patients with orthodontic appliances.

Methods: Fifty-four oral mucosa samples were collected from 18 patients and divided into three stages: T0, before fixation of orthodontic appliances; T1, 25 days after appliance fixation; T2, 90 days after appliance fixation. All samples were Papanicolaou-stained and observed by microscopy (1,000 cells/sample) to ascertain the frequency of micronucleated cells (MN) and nuclear abnormalities (nuclear buds (NB), binucleated (BN), condensed chromatin (CC), karyorrhexis (KR), and karyolysis (KL)).

Background: Angiolipomas are benign mesenchymal tumors that infrequently affect the head-and-neck region and can appear with infiltrating and non-infiltrating forms. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice; however, there are other alternatives to manage this condition whose consideration is quite useful to evaluate per each particular case.

Case Description: An 11-year-old girl was diagnosed with non-infiltrating angiolipoma in the subtemporal region, the zygomatic, and pterygomaxillary fossa; she had a history of having undergone surgery on two previous occasions with a failed resection attempt due to the high vascularization of the injury and significant transoperative bleeding.

The COVID-19 pandemic has proven to be a challenge for healthcare systems, especially in terms of the care of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). Age is one of the major risk factors for severe forms of COVID-19, most probably due to the presence of comorbidities and inflammations. It is known that SARS-CoV-2 invades nerve endings and olfactory nerves through the binding of the spike protein to the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor.

Self-Reported Periodontal Disease and Its Association with SARS-CoV-2 Infection.

Int J Environ Res Public Health

August 2022

Research Institute of Dentistry, Comprehensive Dental Clinics Department, University Center of Health Sciences, University of Guadalajara, Guadalajara 44100, Mexico.

: Knowledge of the oral manifestations associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection, the new coronavirus causing the COVID-19 pandemic, was hindered due to the restrictions issued to avoid proximity between people and to stop the rapid spread of the disease, which ultimately results in a hyperinflammatory cytokine storm that can cause death. Because periodontal disease is one of the most frequent inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity, various theories have emerged postulating periodontal disease as a risk factor for developing severe complications associated with COVID-19. This motivated various studies to integrate questions related to periodontal status.

Breast cancer is a multifactorial disease whose genetic susceptibility is related to polymorphic variants of cell proliferation and migration pathways. Variants in and in the Wnt-β catenin pathway have been associated with different types of cancer; however, little is known about its role in breast cancer. This study tests the hypothesis of links between rs1133683 and rs2240308, and rs7903146 and rs12255372 variants in breast cancer.

Inadequate management of this substance can constitute an occupational hazard by exposing health care professionals to health risks including memory loss, psychosomatic symptoms, fatigue, and other signs of cognitive dysfunction as reported in several studies.

Purpose: To assess Mexico's health care professionals' health and mercury-related knowledge and risk perception and to explore the measurement properties of a questionnaire assessing that level of knowledge.
