Predation is an important ecological process that can significantly impact the maintenance of ecosystem services. In arctic environments, the relative ecological importance of predation is thought to be increasing due to climate change, partly because of increased productivity with rising temperatures. Therefore, understanding predator-prey interactions in arctic ecosystems is vital for the sustainable management of these northern regions.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy is a promising treatment option for relapsed or refractory (R/R) large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL). However, only a subset of patients will present long-term benefit. In this study, we explored the potential of PET-based radiomics to predict treatment outcomes with the aim of improving patient selection for CAR T-cell therapy.

Background Establishing surgical criteria for aortic valve replacement (AVR) in severe aortic regurgitation in young adults is challenging due to the lack of evidence-based recommendations. We studied indications for AVR in young adults with severe aortic regurgitation and their outcomes, as well as the relationship between presurgical echocardiographic parameters and postoperative left ventricular (LV) size, function, clinical events, and valve-related complications. Methods and Results Data were collected retrospectively on 172 consecutive adult patients who underwent AVR or repair for severe aortic regurgitation between 2005 and 2019 in a tertiary cardiac center (age at surgery 29 [22-41] years, 81% male).

Purpose: The purpose of this article was to make a narrative review of the literature in search of all articles regarding thulium:yttrium-aluminium-garnet (YAG), thulium laser fiber (TFL) and holmium:YAG (Ho:YAG) for lithotripsy from 2020 to 2023. A selection of articles of special interest and best evidence was made in order to give a better perspective on their advantages and disadvantages.

Recent Findings: New Ho:YAG technologies of as high power, high frequency and pulsed modulations have shown promising results for lithotripsy by reducing retropulsion with good ablation efficiency.

Background: We describe our experience of using perampanel to treat essential tremor (ET) over 12 months.

Methods: We enrolled 50 ET patients in an open-label trial. Perampanel was titrated to 4 mg/day as adjuvant therapy.

Background: The environmental impact of reusable and disposable devices is unclear; reuse is expected to reduce the carbon footprint, but the environmental impact of reprocessing of reusable devices is increasingly being questioned.

Objective: The aim was to provide the first rigorous life cycle assessment of reusable and disposable flexible cystoscopes.

Design, Setting, And Participants: We performed a life cycle assessment of reusable flexible cystoscopes and the aS4C single-use cystoscope (aScope; Ambu, Ballerup, Denmark).

Objective: To evaluate mass screening campaigns for tuberculosis in prisoners in Ecuador.

Material And Method: Cross-sectional study of Chronic Cough (CC) detected amongst inmates who entered two prisons in Ecuador between January and December 2016 (n = 12,365). The time distribution of the CCs was analyzed with the uniformity test and its relationship with the diagnosed cases of PTB, the prevalence of PTB was calculated.

Objectives: Nowadays, Robotic assistedkidney transplantation (RAKT) is considered a lessinvasive alternative to the Open Kidney Transplantation(OKT) with several advantages such as image magnification,3D vision and articulated instruments and with arelatively short learning curve for an experienced surgeon.RAKT has shown comparable outcomes with theOKT literature data in terms of surgical and functionalresults. RAKT may decrease the complication rate, meanhospital stay, postoperative pain, and also improve aestheticoutcomes.

Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare and heterogeneous disease, with challenging management and poor prognosis. Surgery withcurative intent is the preferred treatment option for localized disease, with a reported 5-year survival rate of 55% for complete resections. However, owing to the high risk of recurrence there is a need for adjuvant therapies, such as mitotane, an adrenolytic drug, or irradiation, while in advanced disease the standard of careis a combined chemotherapy scheme.

Objectives: Adoptive cell therapy (ACT) with mature T cells modified with a chimeric antigen receptor has demonstrated improved outcome for B-cell malignancies. However, its application for others such as Hodgkin lymphoma remains a clinical challenge. CD30 antigen, expressed in Hodgkin lymphoma cells, is absent in most healthy tissues, representing an ideal target of ACT for this disease.

Habitat changes represent one of the five most pervasive threats to biodiversity. However, anthropogenic activities also have the capacity to create novel niche spaces to which species respond differently. In 1880, one such habitat alterations occurred in Landvikvannet, a freshwater lake on the Norwegian coast of Skagerrak, which became brackish after being artificially connected to the sea.

Objective: The aim of this study was to develop and validate a stepwise tool to aid primary health care professionals in the process of deprescribing potentially inappropriate medication in older persons.

Methods: We carried out a systematic review to identify previously published tools. A composite proposal of algorithm was made by following the steps from clinical experience to deprescribe medications.

Background Coronary artery disease remains a major cause of death despite better outcomes of ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). We aimed to analyze data from the Ruti-STEMI registry of in-hospital, 28-day, and 1-year events in patients with STEMI over the past 3 decades in Catalonia, Spain, to assess trends in STEMI prognosis. Methods and Results Between February 1989 and December 2017, a total of 7589 patients with STEMI were admitted consecutively.

Increasing evidence-synthesized in this paper-shows that economic growth contributes to biodiversity loss via greater resource consumption and higher emissions. Nonetheless, a review of international biodiversity and sustainability policies shows that the majority advocate economic growth. Since improvements in resource use efficiency have so far not allowed for absolute global reductions in resource use and pollution, we question the support for economic growth in these policies, where inadequate attention is paid to the question of how growth can be decoupled from biodiversity loss.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is resulting in ethical decisions regarding resource allocation. Prioritisation reflects established practices that regulate the distribution of finite resources when demand exceeds supply. However, discrimination based on sex, race or age has no role in prioritisation unless clearly justified.

For almost half a century, cardiac transplant has been the only long-term treatment for patients with end-stage heart failure. Implantable left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) have emerged as a new treatment option for advanced heart failure as destination therapy for patients either too old or not suitable for transplant. A meta-analysis presenting head-to-head comparisons of cardiac transplant versus LVAD as destination therapy (LVAD-DT) found no difference in 1-year mortality rates between LVAD-DT and cardiac transplant (OR 1.

Article Synopsis
  • Open kidney transplantation (OKT) is the standard procedure for end-stage renal disease, but robotic-assisted kidney transplantation (RAKT) is gaining acceptance, especially for more complex cases after overcoming initial learning curves in specialized centers.
  • A systematic review revealed that RAKT techniques have evolved, with intraperitoneal methods showing advantages for obese patients, and the Vattikuti-Medanta technique maintaining optimal graft temperature during surgery.
  • RAKT is comparable to OKT in functionality and offers benefits such as reduced complication rates and those in need of weight management can be better accommodated through RAKT, making it a favorable surgical option.

Background We hypothesized that female sex is a treatment effect modifier of blood flow and related 30-day mortality after primary percutaneous coronary intervention ( PCI ) for ST -segment-elevation myocardial infarction and that the magnitude of the effect on outcomes differs depending on delay to hospital presentation. Methods and Results We identified 2596 patients enrolled in the ISACS - TC (International Survey of Acute Coronary Syndromes in Transitional Countries) registry from 2010 to 2016. Primary outcome was the occurrence of 30-day mortality.
