Pneumococcal infections are a serious health issue associated with increased morbidity and mortality. This systematic review evaluated the efficacy, effectiveness, immunogenicity, and safety of the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV)15 compared to other pneumococcal vaccines or no vaccination in children and adults. We identified 20 randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

Women who develop HPV-related cervical, vaginal, and vulvar cancers represent a subgroup of patients who may be particularly sensitive to HPV infection and re-acquire infections.

Purpose: Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging ( -MRSI) provides noninvasive spectral-spatial mapping of metabolism. However, long-standing problems in whole-brain -MRSI are spectral overlap of metabolite peaks with large lipid signal from scalp, and overwhelming water signal that distorts spectra. Fast and effective methods are needed for high-resolution -MRSI to accurately remove lipid and water signals while preserving the metabolite signal.

Offspring of older breeders frequently show reduced longevity, which has been linked to shorter offspring telomere length. It is currently unknown whether such telomere reduction persists beyond a single generation, as would be the case if germline transmission is involved. In a within-grandmother, multi-generational study using zebra finches, we show that the shorter telomeres observed in F1 offspring of older mothers are still present in the F2 generation even when the breeding age of their F1 mothers is young.

Enhancing human ACE2 expression in mouse models to improve COVID-19 research.

Mice are one of the most common biological models for laboratory use. However, wild-type mice are not susceptible to COVID-19 infection due to the low affinity of mouse ACE2, the entry protein for SARS-CoV-2. Although mice with human ACE2 (hACE2) driven by Ace2 promoter reflect its tissue specificity, these animals exhibit low ACE2 expression, potentially limiting their fidelity in mimicking COVID-19 manifestations and their utility in viral studies.

Impact of light dose and fluence rate on the efficacy and tolerability of topical 5-ALA photodynamic therapy for actinic keratoses: A randomized, controlled, observer-blinded intrapatient comparison study.

Background: Conventional photodynamic therapy (cPDT) is an effective treatment option for field cancerization and multiple actinic keratoses (AK). The main side effect of cPDT is pain during illumination which in severe cases might necessitate early termination of treatment. Modification of treatment parameters such as light dose and fluence rate is a promising approach to mitigate PDT-associated pain.

Introduction: People with Parkinson's disease (PwPD) experience a wide range of motor and non-motor symptoms that have a significant impact on their health and quality of life. Effective care management for PwPD involves monitoring symptoms at home, involving specialised multidisciplinary care providers and enhancing self-management skills. This study protocol describes the process evaluation within a randomised clinical trial to assess the implementation and its impact on patient health outcomes of ParkProReakt-a proactive, multidisciplinary, digitally supported care model for community-dwelling PwPD.

Evaluation of early metabolic changes following vorasidenib using FET PET in patients with -mutant gliomas.

The phase-3 INDIGO trial demonstrated that the isocitrate dehydrogenase () inhibitor vorasidenib significantly prolonged progression-free survival and delayed intervention in patients with CNS WHO grade 2 gliomas. Introduction: Low atrial voltage and slow conduction velocity (CV) have been associated with atrial fibrillation (AF); however, their interaction and relative importance as early disease markers remain incompletely understood. We aimed to elucidate the relationship between atrial voltage and CV using high-density electroanatomic (HDE) maps of patients with AF.

All boring (endolithic) bryozoans are ctenostomes that, along with other boring taxa, are common in benthic communities.

Risk factors for dysphagia after traumatic cervical spinal cord injury: A retrospective study.

Objective: The pathophysiological mechanisms of dysphagia in individuals with traumatic cervical spinal cord injury (SCI) are not well understood yet. Several risk factors for developing dysphagia after SCI were postulated including mechanical ventilation, tracheostomy, age, female sex, anterior surgical approach, SCI severity, and multi-level spinal fusion. This study aimed to identify risk factors for dysphagia in individuals who sustained traumatic cervical SCI.

In-silico pace mapping combines a personalized computational model with clinical electrocardiograms (ECGs) to generate a virtual 3D pace map.

Traumatic brachial plexus lesions (TBPL) can lead to permanent impairment of hand function despite timely brachial plexus surgical treatment. In selected cases with no recovery of hand function, the affected forearm can be amputated and replaced by a bionic hand to regain prehensile function. This cross-sectional study aimed to assess (sub)cortical motor activity and functional connectivity changes after TBPL and bionic reconstruction.

Background: A growing body of evidence explored symptom burden of somatic symptom disorder (SSD) and its complex etiology involving psychosocial aspects. Child abuse has been linked to numerous psychopathologies including somatic symptoms as well as impaired personality functioning and disruptions in epistemic trust. This work aims to investigate personality functioning and epistemic trust in the association between child abuse and somatic symptom burden.

Due to the still to date limited knowledge of spHS genetics, we calculated Polygenic scores (PGS) to study the genetic underpinnings that contribute to spHS within European demographic. 256 spHS patients and 1686 healthy controls were analyzed across 6 European clinical centers.

This study aimed to determine the agreement of BPE evaluation between contrast enhanced mammography (CEM) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and investigate potential confounders.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective, IRB-approved study included women recalled from screening or with inconclusive findings on mammography and/or ultrasound, who underwent both CEM and MRI between 2018 and 2022.
