Importance: Triple-negative breast cancer is an aggressive subtype with a high incidence in young patients, a high incidence in non-Hispanic Black women, and a high risk of progression to metastatic cancer, a devastating sequela with a 12- to 18-month life expectancy. Until recently, one strategy for treating early-stage triple-negative breast cancer was chemotherapy after surgery. However, it was not known whether the addition of immune therapy to postsurgery chemotherapy would be beneficial.

Cancers of the brain and central nervous system: global patterns and trends in incidence.

Background: Global comparisons of the burden and impact of cancers of the brain and central nervous system (CNS) are critical for developing effective control strategies and generating etiological hypotheses to drive future research.

Methods: National incidence estimates were obtained from GLOBOCAN 2022, and recorded incidence data from the Cancer in Five Continents series, both developed and compiled by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. We examined the estimated age-standardized incidence rates in 185 countries, as well as time trends in recorded incidence in 35 countries, quantifying the direction and change in the magnitude of the rates using the estimated average percentage change (EAPC).

Solitary foraging insects like desert ants rely heavily on vision for navigation. While ants can learn visual scenes, it is unclear what cues they use to decide if a scene is worth exploring at the first place. To investigate this, we recorded the motor behavior of Cataglyphis velox ants navigating in a virtual reality set-up (VR) and measured their lateral oscillations in response to various unfamiliar visual scenes under both closed-loop and open-loop conditions.

Objective: In humans, haptoglobin (Hp) exists in two allelic forms, Hp1 and Hp2, that differ significantly in their ability to protect the organism from oxidative stress. It has been proposed that in patients with diabetes mellitus carriers of the Hp2-2 genotype may benefit from vitamin E supplementation. Aim of our study was to investigate if there is evidence regarding a potential interaction between the Hp polymorphism and vitamin E with regard to mortality in individuals at medium-to-high cardiovascular risk with and without diabetes mellitus.

Probing the influence of imidazolylidene- and triazolylidene-based carbenes on the catalytic potential of dioxomolybdenum and dioxotungsten complexes in deoxygenation catalysis.

We report the synthesis of dianionic OCO-supported NHC and MIC complexes of molybdenum and tungsten with the general formula (OCO)MO (OCO = bis-phenolate benzimidazolylidene M = Mo (1-Mo), bis-phenolate triazolylidene M = Mo (2-Mo), M = W (2-W) and bis-phenolate imidazolylidene, M = Mo (3-Mo), W (3-W)). These complexes are tested in the catalytic deoxygenation of nitroarenes using pinacol as a sacrificial oxygen atom acceptor/reducing agent to examine the influence of the carbene and the metal centre in this transformation. The results show that the molybdenum-based triazolylidene complex 2-Mo is by far the most active catalyst, and TOFs of up to 270 h are observed, while the tungsten analogues are basically inactive.

Background this systematic review was conducted to assess the practical application of terbium radioisotopes, utilizing systematic search methodologies to identify relevant studies. Methods the databases of PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus were systematically scoured, targeting the research on four terbium isotopes:  Tb,  Tb,  Tb, and  Tb. Various combinations of keywords related to terbium and its four radioisotopes were used in the search process.

Co-creating a person-centered creative engagement intervention for Parkinson's care.

Background: Recent research in the field of "Arts and Health" has demonstrated the beneficial impact of arts-based interventions on health and well-being across diverse populations. Recognizing their potential, especially in cases where conventional healthcare cannot address the multifaceted impact of conditions such as in Parkinson's disease (PD), our study advocates for an integrative approach in medical practice and neuroscience. We recommend incorporating learning environments from the design phase through long-term care.

Evidence for a shared cognitive mechanism underlying relative rhythmic and melodic perception.

Musical melodies and rhythms are typically perceived in a relative manner: two melodies are considered "the same" even if one is shifted up or down in frequency, as long as the relationships among the notes are preserved. Similar principles apply to rhythms, which can be slowed down or sped up proportionally in time and still be considered the same pattern. We investigated whether humans perceiving rhythms and melodies may rely upon the same or similar mechanisms to achieve this relative perception.

This comment on 'Economic theories and their Dueling interpretations' questions the descriptive adequacy of the 'sociology of economics' proposed by Gilboa, Postlewaite, Samuelson, and Schmeidler (GPSS) (2022). We ask whether economists still perceive the role of microeconomic theory as central as do GPSS. In particular, is present-day economics unified by the principles of maximising, subject to constraints and equilibrium analysis? We argue that this is not the case.

Objectives: Chronic kidney disease has a global morbidity burden of >10%, with diabetes being a major cause.  Nutrition therapy is vital in managing both chronic conditions, yet CKD dietary guidelines contradict healthy eating advice, and can result in major psychological and social burdens. Few studies investigate the patient's experience of being placed on such a restrictive diet.

Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the maturation of matrix-associated autologous chondrocyte transplantation (MACT) grafts up to 2 years after the surgery using gray-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) texture analysis of quantitative T maps, compare the results with the microfracturing technique (MFX) control group, and relate these results to the morphological MOCART 2.0 score.

Background: The occurrence of periprosthetic femoral fractures (PFFs) in cementless total hip arthroplasty (THA) might be associated with the proximal femoral morphology and the pelvis. PFFs in short stem THA are associated with an increased Canal Flare Index. PFFs in straight stem THA show a decreased Canal Flare Index.

Glucagon like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists and cardiometabolic protection: historical development and future challenges.

Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) have revolutionized the treatment of cardiometabolic diseases, extending their therapeutic applications far beyond glycemic control in type 2 diabetes (T2D) and obesity. This editorial synthesizes key milestones, from the discovery of GLP-1 to recent clinical trials highlighting the pleiotropic effects of GLP-1RAs in addressing the interconnected spectrum of cardiometabolic conditions, with a focus on cardiovascular, renal, and hepatic benefits. In addition, as GLP-1RAs continue to reshape the management of cardiometabolic disease and global public health, we discuss future challenges to better elucidate their mechanisms of cardiometabolic protection and maximize their therapeutic potential.

Background: Lysinuric protein intolerance is a rare autosomal disorder caused by mutations in the Slc7a7 gene that lead to impaired transport of neutral and basic amino acids. The gold standard treatment for lysinuric protein intolerance involves a low-protein diet and citrulline supplementation. While this approach partially improves cationic amino acid plasma levels and alleviates some symptoms, long-term treatment is suggested to be detrimental and may lead to life-threatening complications characterized by a wide range of hematological and immunological abnormalities.

Background: The integration of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) into routine gynecologic cancer treatment requires a thorough understanding of how to manage immune-related adverse events (irAEs) to ensure patient safety. However, reports on real-world clinical experience in the management of ICIs in gynecologic oncology are very limited. Mitigating loss of genetic diversity is a major global biodiversity challenge. To meet recent international commitments to maintain genetic diversity within species, we need to understand relationships between threats, conservation management and genetic diversity change. Here we conduct a global analysis of genetic diversity change via meta-analysis of all available temporal measures of genetic diversity from more than three decades of research.

The fate of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) is the largest cause of uncertainty in long-term sea-level projections. In the last interglacial (LIG) around 125,000 years ago, data suggest that sea level was several metres higher than today, and required a significant contribution from Antarctic ice loss, with WAIS usually implicated. Antarctica and the Southern Ocean were warmer than today, by amounts comparable to those expected by 2100 under moderate to high future warming scenarios.
