Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate head kinematic variables in elite men's and women's rugby union and their ability to predict player removal for an off-field (HIA1) head injury assessment.

Methods: Instrumented mouthguard (iMG) data were collected for 250 men and 132 women from 1865 and 807 player-matches, respectively, and synchronised to video-coded match footage. Head peak resultant linear acceleration (PLA), peak resultant angular acceleration (PAA) and peak change in angular velocity (dPAV) were extracted from each head acceleration event (HAE).

Objectives: To describe and compare the incidence and propensity of head acceleration events (HAEs) using instrumented mouthguards (iMG) by playing position in a season of English elite-level men's and women's rugby union matches.

Methods: iMG data were collected for 255 men and 133 women from 1,865 and 807 player-matches, respectively, and synchronised to video-coded match footage. Head peak resultant linear acceleration (PLA) and peak resultant angular acceleration (PAA) were extracted from each HAE.

Mild-to-Moderate Kidney Dysfunction and Cardiovascular Disease: Observational and Mendelian Randomization Analyses.

Circulation

November 2022

BHF Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit, Department of Public Health and Primary Care (L.G., L.S., S. Bell, S.K.K., S. Burgess, K.M., A.M.M., T.R.B., E.A., L.C., J.R.S., P.W., L. Pennells, S.H., M.I., J.D., A.S.B., A.M.W., E.D.A.).

Background: End-stage renal disease is associated with a high risk of cardiovascular events. It is unknown, however, whether mild-to-moderate kidney dysfunction is causally related to coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke.

Methods: Observational analyses were conducted using individual-level data from 4 population data sources (Emerging Risk Factors Collaboration, EPIC-CVD [European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition-Cardiovascular Disease Study], Million Veteran Program, and UK Biobank), comprising 648 135 participants with no history of cardiovascular disease or diabetes at baseline, yielding 42 858 and 15 693 incident CHD and stroke events, respectively, during 6.

A PP(O)P pincer ligand based upon a -substituted acenaphthyl (Ace) scaffold and a secondary phosphine oxide, (5-PhP-Ace-6-)P(O)H, was prepared and fully characterized including a neutron diffraction study. The reaction with [Ni(HO)]Cl and PdCl produced ionic metal(II) complexes [κ-,,((5-PhP-Ace-6-)P(OH))MCl]Cl, which upon addition of EtN gave rise to zwitterionic metal(II) complexes κ-,,((5-PhP-Ace-6-)P(O))MCl (M = Ni, Pd). The reaction with Ni(COD) (COD = cyclooctadiene) provided the η-cyclooctenyl Ni(II) complex κ-,,((5-PhP-Ace-6-)P(O))Ni(η-CH).

Polarity Protein Scrib Facilitates Endothelial Inflammatory Signaling.

Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol

Objective: The polarity protein Scrib is highly expressed in endothelial cells and is required for planar cell polarity. Scrib also facilitates recycling of integrin α5 to the plasma membrane. Because integrin α5 signals the presence of the inflammatory matrix protein fibronectin, we hypothesized that Scrib contributes to endothelial inflammatory signaling.
