Department of General Practice and Primary Care, The University of Melbourne, Carlton, VIC, Australia.
Sexual violence (SV) and intimate partner violence (IPV) in tertiary institutions have received increased attention in Australia and globally, however, international students have been largely neglected in academic and policy discourse. Little is known about the nature and frequency of SV and IPV experienced by these students, nor what sociodemographic factors are associated with victimization. This article reports on a national cross-sectional survey of 1,491 women international students in Australia.

This article discusses methodological concerns identified when reviewing the UK government's public consultation for its 2021 Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy. We apply intersectional feminist perspectives and critical measurement analysis, and discuss two areas of methodological concern: issues with conceptualizations of violence, and issues with the measurement of public experiences, attitudes, and opinions, and implications for the accuracy of the survey.

Understanding how dental attendance evolves throughout life can inform targeted preventive health care policies by identifying key moments when people are more or less likely to seek dental care. Trajectory modeling of age and time trajectories takes a life course approach to understanding dental attendance, offering insights into both developmental perspectives (e.g.

Antidepressant use is common in women. However, characteristics associated with duration of use remain unclear. We conducted a descriptive study using data from the 1973-1978 and 1946-1951 birth cohorts of the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health linked to antidepressant dispensing records from the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, July 2012 to December 2019 to examine use patterns and their associated characteristics.

The DSM-5 introduced severity ratings in 2013 for anorexia nervosa (AN), bulimia nervosa (BN), and binge-eating disorder (BED) based on BMI, compensatory behaviour frequency, and binge eating frequency, respectively. While several studies have assessed the validity of these ratings, little is known about their use in clinical practice. This study examined clinicians' use of DSM-5 severity ratings and their views on their clinical value.

Research is only beginning to shape our understanding of eating disorders as metabolic-psychiatric illnesses. How eating disorders (EDs) are classified is essential to future research for understanding the etiology of these severe illnesses and both developing and tailoring effective treatments. The gold standard for classification for research and diagnostic purposes has primarily been and continues to be the (DSM-5).

Plant pollination by insects represents one of the most transformative and iconic ecological relationships in the natural world. Despite tens of thousands of papers, as well as numerous books, on pollination biology published over the past 200 years, most studies focused on the fossil record of pollinating insects have only been published in the last few decades, and this field is still undergoing major developments. Current palaeontological evidence indicates that pollinating insects were diverse and participated in the reproduction of different gymnosperm lineages long before their association with flowering plants (angiosperms).

Inconsistent findings exist regarding the association between maternal perinatal depression and the risk of Disruptive Behavioural Disorder (DBD) symptoms, including Conduct Disorder (CD) and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) symptoms in children and adolescents. This study aimed to estimate the overall risk of DBD symptoms in offspring of mothers who have experienced perinatal depression. PubMed, Medline, Embase, Scopus, CINAHL, and Psych INFO were searched.

BACKGROUND Cardiomyopathy associated with thymoma is thought to be a cardiac manifestations of myasthenia gravis (MG). However, there are case reports of newly diagnosed thymoma presenting with cardiomyopathy without MG, and the mechanism remains unclear. The purpose of this report is to explore tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy (TIC) as a potential mechanism for cardiomyopathy in thymoma without features of MG.

Background: Early treatment is critical to improve eating disorder prognosis. Single session interventions have been proposed as a strategy to provide short term support to people on waitlists for eating disorder treatment, however, it is not always possible to access this early intervention. Conversational artificial intelligence agents or "chatbots" reflect a unique opportunity to attempt to fill this gap in service provision.

Background: Endothelial dysfunction is a hallmark feature of cardiovascular disease (CVD), yet the underlying mechanisms are still poorly understood. This has impeded the development of effective therapies, particularly for peripheral artery disease. FK506-binding protein like (FKBPL) and its therapeutic peptide mimetic, AD-01, are crucial negative regulators of angiogenesis, however their roles in CVD are unknown.

Background: Fire is a major contributor to global fatalities and disabilities and remains a prevalent threat to individuals in Australia. New South Wales (NSW) experiences over one-third of all structure fires, including residential ones, in the country and one-quarter of all associated deaths and hospital admissions. In an atmosphere of rising healthcare cost and heightened demand for its services, obtaining total cost data for residential fires is essential.

Background: Residential facilities for eating disorders are becoming increasingly common, providing recovery-oriented care in less restrictive environments compared to traditional hospital treatments. Despite their popularity, there is a lack of research regarding parent and carer experiences of residential programs. Furthermore, while the impact of eating disorders on parents and caregivers is well-documented, understandings of their lived experiences remain limited.

Background: University students incur significantly elevated levels of stress compared to the general population and their non-student counterparts. Health risk behaviours are important modifiable determinants for the onset and aggravation of various mental health disorders, in which, university students generally exhibit poor engagement. Thus, this study aims to determine the efficacy of health behaviour interventions in relation to change in health behaviour and mental health outcomes, the impact of interventions (i.

Frailty and pre-frailty are major public health concerns. While frailty is typically associated with older adults, evidence suggests that pre-frailty commonly starts in middle-age. This study examined associations between behavioural and psychological correlates of pre-frailty and frailty in adults from 40 years to help identify at-risk individuals and inform interventions.

Background: During adolescence, accurate diagnostic criteria and/or identification of adolescents "at risk" of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are critical to establish appropriate screening, treatment, and lifelong health plans. The 2023 International Evidence-Based Guideline for PCOS aimed to provide the most up-to-date evidence-based recommendations to improve health outcomes for individuals with PCOS, emphasizing accurate and timely diagnosis of PCOS from adolescence.
Methods: The best practice methods following the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation (AGREE-II) criteria were applied.

Background: The ataxia-telangiectasia mutated (ATM) kinase phosphorylates and activates several downstream targets that are essential for DNA damage repair, cell cycle inhibition and apoptosis. Germline biallelic inactivation of the ATM gene causes ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T), and heterozygous pathogenic variant (PV) carriers are at increased risk of cancer, notably breast cancer. This study aimed to investigate whether DNA methylation profiling can be useful as a biomarker to identify tumors arising in ATM PV carriers, which may help for the management and optimal tailoring of therapies of these patients.

Background: Use of evidence to inform health policy and planning decisions is important to ensure effective, efficient and equitable interventions, yet there has been little examination of decentralized, regional health bodies. This study aimed to examine the extent, purposes and sources of evidence used by Australian Primary Health Networks (PHNs) to inform regional primary health care planning, and explore conceptions of, and attitudes towards evidence.
Methods: We conducted document analysis of all 31 PHNs' Needs Assessments, Activity Work Plans and Annual Reports, and conducted 29 interviews with key stakeholders from a sample of five PHNs.
