Compared with acidic environments, promoting the water dissociation process is crucial for speeding up hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) kinetics in alkaline electrolyte. Although the construction of heterostructured electrocatalysts by hybridizing noble metals with metal (hydr)oxides has been reported as a feasible approach to achieve high performance, the high cost, complicated fabrication process, and unsatisfactory mass activity limit their large-scale applications. Herein, we report a single-phase HER electrocatalyst composed of single-atom ruthenium (Ru) incorporated into a cobalt oxide spine structure (denoted as Ru SA/CoO), which possesses exceptional HER performance in alkaline media via unusual atomic-scale Ru-Co pair sites.

A randomized controlled feasibility trial of a single-session metacognitive training intervention for reducing eating disorder risk factors.

This study investigates the feasibility and preliminary evidence for the efficacy of a single-session online metacognitive training (MCT-ED) among a population considered to be at-risk of developing an eating disorder. A total of  = 95 participants with high weight concerns were randomised to an MCT-ED condition ( = 43) or a waitlist control condition ( = 52). Participants completed measures of body image flexibility, perfectionism, weight and shape concerns and mood at baseline, post-treatment (one-week post-baseline), and 3-months post-treatment.

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is a commonly used technique for barrier verification within radiation protection, ensuring compliance with national standards and state regulations. There are currently limited published methods in NDT for lead shielding above 25 kg/m, and thus this research aimed to develop a reproducible method to aid in 'in the field' NDT for lead barriers exceeding 25 kg/m using a Fluorine-18 (F) source. Due to the fast decay of F, the data generated within this research was compiled from Monte Carlo (MC) simulations using the PENELOPE engine, and the PENGEOM geometry system to model the proposed empirical setup.

How much data do you need? An analysis of pelvic multi-organ segmentation in a limited data context.

Training deep learning models generally requires large, costly datasets which can limit their application towards in-house segmentation tasks. This study investigates the trade-off in dataset size within the context of pelvic multi-organ MR segmentation where we evaluate the performance of nnU-Net, a well-known segmentation model, under conditions of limited domain and data availability. 12 participants undergoing treatment on an Elekta Unity were recruited, acquiring 58 MR images, with 4 participants (12 images) withheld for testing.

Background: Concussion is a common consequence of engaging in collision sports, with the often mild, transient nature of symptoms posing a considerable diagnostic and management challenge. This challenge is vastly magnified for athletes competing at grassroots/non-professional levels, who lack field side access to medical expertise in the assessment of a player's capacity to continue playing or need for further medical attention. The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate the utility of the BrainEye application and hardware (BrainEye platform) as a concussion screening tool, specifically determining (1) its sensitivity and specificity with respect to identifying an individual with a clinically diagnosed concussion, (2) the stability of the platform through test completion/failure rates, and (3) its usability through operator feedback and uptake/integration into concussion management protocols.

Background: Carers play an important role in providing practical and emotional support to people with dementia. There is a need to ensure carers are supported in this role to maximise their ability to provide care while maintaining their own wellbeing. This study aimed to develop a psychometrically rigorous self-report instrument to assess the unmet needs of carers of people with dementia.

This report describes a case of the large venous ring around the mandibular condyle found in the cadaver. The left maxillofacial region of a latex-injected embalmed male cadaver (82 years of age at death) was dissected.

Exploring Acceptance of Digital Health Technologies for Managing Non-Communicable Diseases Among Older Adults: A Systematic Scoping Review.

This review explores the acceptance of digital health (DH) technologies for managing non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among older adults (≥ 50 years), with an extended focus on artificial intelligence (AI)-powered conversational agents (CAs) as an emerging notable subset of DH. A systematic literature search was conducted in June 2024 using PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and ACM Digital Library. Eligible studies were empirical and published in English between January 2010 and May 2024.

The efficacy of progestins in managing pain associated with endometriosis, fibroids and pre-menstrual syndrome: a systematic review.

Purpose: Alongside being contraceptives, progestins have been investigated as potential anti-inflammatory and analgesic therapies for use in painful gynaecological conditions. This review aims to synthesise evidence pertaining to the efficacy of progestins as analgesics for use in endometriosis, fibroids and pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS).

Methods: We conducted a systematic review of the extant literature investigating the analgesic efficacy of progestins compared to any comparator interventions for individuals with the three specified gynaecological conditions.

Background: In recent decades, social networks have experienced an exponential increase involving millions of users and transforming the way they communicate in the medical community, becoming an important tool in medicine, where plastic surgery has not been an exception.

Objectives: We aimed to present a review of the effects of social networks in the area of plastic surgery, the main existing regulatory frameworks, and propose the basic aspects for the adequate use of these platforms in the practice of our profession.

Methods: A literature search was performed, including scientific articles, specific existing guides from the USA, Australia, Brazil, and Argentina, as well as articles in digital newspapers and Google regarding emblematic cases.

Functional dysphagia: Developing a framework for assessment and treatment.

Purpose: Functional dysphagia is complex, affecting physical health as well as wellbeing. In this expert opinion paper with associated exemplar case series, we propose a framework for understanding functional dysphagia.

Method: A literature review of approaches to understanding and treating functional dysphagia are presented, moving beyond the predominant medical model to encompass psychosocial aspects of the condition.

Evaluating Hospital Resource Utilization for Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome Through Linkage of a Clinical Registry and an Administrative Database.

Resource utilization estimates for hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) in early childhood are lacking. We linked the National Pediatric Cardiology Quality Improvement (NPC-QIC) clinical registry to the Pediatric Health Information Systems (PHIS) database to estimate hospital resource utilization for a contemporary HLHS cohort. All hospitals with both PHIS and NPC-QIC data available were eligible for inclusion.
