Apoptotic Vesicles Derived from Mesenchymal Stem Cells Ameliorate Hypersensitivity Responses via Inducing CD8 T Cells Apoptosis with Calcium Overload and Mitochondrial Dysfunction.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

State Key Laboratory of Oral & Maxillofacial Reconstruction and Regeneration, National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases, Shaanxi Clinical Research Center for Oral Disease, Department of Preventive Dentistry, School of Stomatology, The Fourth Military Medical University, Xi'an, Shaanxi, 710032, China.

Apoptosis is crucial for maintaining internal homeostasis. Apoptotic vesicles (ApoVs) derived from mesenchymal stem/ stromal cells (MSCs-ApoVs) as natural lipid nanoparticles are attractive candidates for the next generation of immunotherapies. However, the therapeutic potential of MSCs-ApoVs in managing hypersensitivity reactions mediated by CD8 T cells remains elusive.

Background: While physical activity (PA) is known to improve physical function (PF), and functional decline impacts the capacity to engage in PA, the reciprocal relationship between PA and PF remains unclear.

Methods: Data were from participants in the 1921-26 cohort of the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health (N=8,238). PA and PF were assessed at three-year intervals from 1999 (73-78y) to 2011 (85-90y).

We investigated the criterion validity and within- and between-day reliability of a novel method for human striking performance assessment. The Impulse Block Method allows the measurement and calculation of a range of striking variables using a load cell incorporating an impact absorption block and laser gate timer. To assess the criterion validity, we performed repeated drop tests and compared the relationship and agreement between predicted and measured velocity and initial momentum (calculated from impulse) with predicted values using linear regression and Bland-Altman plots (Experiment 1).

BACKGROUND Pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) significantly reduces quality of life. During horseback riding, the movement of the horse's back affects the tension of the pelvic floor muscles. This study aimed to compare reported symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction in women with past, current, and no history of horse show jumping.

Strategies used by organisms to survive very cold climates - student's guide.

Cryo Letters

March 2025

One School Global, Sydney, Australia. Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California San Diego, USA. Department of Physics, The University at Albany, NY, USA.

We briefly examine how cold-hardiness in general, including freeze-tolerance, freeze-avoidance and dehydration strategies allow survival in cold climates, through the eyes of some specific insects and fish. Strategies do vary with geography and latitude, even between two types of insects living in the same area. We look at ice nucleation proteins to enhance freezing and antifreeze proteins to help avoid ice formation or, in some cases, to hinder what is known as recrystallization, as a frozen organism thaws.

Background: Economic evidence on the long-term benefits of investing in early childhood development is limited. This study aimed to estimate the potential long-term economic benefits of an early childhood development intervention 'Learning Clubs' in Vietnam.

Methods: We conducted a cost-benefit analysis to estimate the costs and benefits of the intervention compared to the standard of care from a limited societal perspective.

Background: Chronic musculoskeletal pain conditions affect millions of people worldwide and place a significant burden on individuals and the healthcare systems. Managing chronic musculoskeletal pain requires a multidisciplinary approach that considers biological, psychological, and social factors. However, access to multidisciplinary pain care is challenging, and long wait times can lead to increased stress and health deterioration.

General practice-based care for Australian children is facing low levels of clinical guideline adherence particularly in three key areas: asthma, type 1 diabetes and antibiotic use. We offer an implementation science-informed position paper, providing a broad overview of how we aim to address this issue. This is the co-designed National Paediatric Applied Research Translation Initiative (N-PARTI), a bespoke, three-phased research solution by deploying mixed methods, simulation and scale-up of evidence into practice.

Background: The healthcare disparities of sexual and gender minority (SGM) people are globally recognised. Research from the United States has advocated for sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) information capture via the electronic medical record (EMR) to support the generation of knowledge regarding SGM people's healthcare needs and the appropriate care for this population. In November 2022, The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) enabled the SOGI capture EMR functionality.

Introduction: Multimorbidity amplifies healthcare burdens due to the intricate requirements of patients and the pathophysiological complexities of multiple diseases. To address this, digital health technologies play a crucial role in effective healthcare delivery, requiring comprehensive evidence on their applications in managing multimorbidity. Therefore, this scoping review aims to identify various types of digital health technologies, explore their mechanisms, and identify barriers and facilitators within the context of multimorbidity.

In the last two decades, novel and promising cell-based therapies have populated the treatment landscape for haematological tumors. However, commonly exploited T and NK cell-based therapies show limited applicability to solid tumors. This is mainly given by the impaired tumor trafficking capability and limited effector activity of these cells within a highly immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment.

Background: Identifying the past and future burden of kidney cancer (KC) and its temporal trends among older adults (≥ 65 years) at global, regional, and national levels is critical for effective prevention strategies.

Methods: The age-standardized incidence, prevalence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) were calculated using data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study from 1990 to 2021. These indicators were stratified by sex, age, and socio-demographic index (SDI).

Background: Previous studies have shown that the referral situation after cognitive screening is not optimistic. However, little is known about the situation in China. The current study assessed the cognitive function of older adults with an Eight-item Ascertain Dementia (AD8) score of ≥ 2 in a community health center and investigated their willingness to accept referrals.

Purpose: To evaluate the ototoxicity of povidone iodine (PVP-I) at concentrations of 5% and 10% during tympanoplasty by assessing frequency-specific audiometric outcomes and graft success rates in a large cohort of patients.

Methods: This prospective, triple-blinded, randomized clinical trial enrolled 542 patients undergoing primary tympanoplasty. After excluding patients for inadequate follow-up, 204 ears received 10% PVP-I and 199 ears received 5% PVP-I.

Forbs ("wildflowers") are important contributors to grassland biodiversity but are vulnerable to environmental changes. In a factorial experiment at 94 sites on 6 continents, we test the global generality of several broad predictions: (1) Forb cover and richness decline under nutrient enrichment, particularly nitrogen enrichment. (2) Forb cover and richness increase under herbivory by large mammals.

Elevated fasting insulin levels (FI), indicative of altered insulin secretion and sensitivity, may precede type 2 diabetes (T2D) and cardiovascular disease onset. In this study, we group FI-associated genetic variants based on their genetic and phenotypic similarities and identify seven clusters with distinct mechanisms contributing to elevated FI levels. Clusters fall into two types: "non-diabetogenic hyperinsulinemia," where clusters are not associated with increased T2D risk, and "diabetogenic hyperinsulinemia," where T2D associations are driven by body fat distribution, liver function, circulating lipids, or inflammation.
