In this report, a 37-year-old woman presented with a multi-nodular goitre with clinical features concerning for transient cerebral ischaemia. The anaesthetic management and neurological monitoring used to mitigate the risk of cerebral ischaemia during thyroidectomy is described and the literature surrounding this rare complication is explored.

Adaptation to climate change is a social-ecological process: it is not solely a result of natural processes or human decisions but emerges from multiple relations within social systems, within ecological systems and between them. We propose a novel analytical framework to evaluate social-ecological relations in nature-based adaptation, encompassing social (people-people), ecological (nature-nature) and social-ecological (people-nature) relations. Applying this framework to 25 case studies, we analyse the associations among these relations and identify archetypes of social-ecological adaptation.

Herein, NaCl-templated mesoporous hard carbons (NMCs) have been designed and engineered with tunable surface properties as anode materials for potassium-ion batteries (KIBs) and hybrid capacitors (KICs). By utilizing "water-in-oil" emulsions, the size of NaCl templates is precisely modified, leading to smaller particles that enable the formation of primary carbon structures with reduced particle size and secondary structures with 3D interconnected mesoporosity. These features significantly enhance electrode density, reduce particle-to-particle resistance, and improve electrolyte wettability.

Background: Cutaneous melanoma (CM) is the leading cause of skin cancer mortality with associated high healthcare costs. Development and formative evaluation of website-based tool to support healthy lifestyles in family day care.

Issue Addressed: Nutrition and physical activity practices in Australian family day care are suboptimal. Here we compared hippocampal neuron dendritogenesis in FGR and control fetal sheep at three timepoints equivalent to the third trimester of pregnancy, complemented by magnetic resonance image for brain volume, and electrophysiology for synaptic function.

Background: The application of a temporary deferral when attempting to donate has a negative impact on retention. Little has been done to reduce the likelihood of a donor attending to donate, only to be found to be ineligible. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of pre-screening donors when making an appointment, to prevent in-center deferrals.

Management of Accidental Paraquat Ingestion in a Child.

Aim: To report on the management of a toddler who had accidental ingestion of an unknown amount of paraquat, with treatment including continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), steroids and antifibrinolytics at a tertiary-level health system.

Methods: A 16-month-old child weighing 10 kg accidentally ingested an unknown amount of Gramoxone containing paraquat. The child was transferred to a tertiary centre Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) where she was electively intubated and commenced on CRRT at 7 hours and 15 minutes post-ingestion.

Background: Initial analysis of liver transplant biopsies in the INTERLIVER study (ClinicalTrials.gov; unique identifier NCT03193151) using rejection-associated transcripts failed to find an antibody-mediated rejection state (ie, rich in natural killer [NK] cells and with interferon-gamma effects). Tissue-resident lymphocytes (TRLs) provide a front-line immunological defense mechanism uniquely placed to detect perturbations in tissue homeostasis. The heterogeneous TRL population spans the innate to adaptive immune continuum, with roles during normal physiology in homeostatic maintenance, tissue repair, pathogen detection, and rapid mounting of immune responses. TRLs are especially enriched in the liver, with every TRL subset represented, including liver-resident natural killer cells; tissue-resident memory B cells; conventional tissue-resident memory CD8, CD4, and regulatory T cells; and unconventional gamma-delta, natural killer, and mucosal-associated invariant T cells.
