Purpose: Exercising during cancer treatment reduces fatigue, improves quality of life, and increases survival, yet 60-70% of Australians undergoing cancer treatment do not meet current physical activity (PA) recommendations. This study aimed to explore barriers and enablers to PA amongst people undergoing cancer treatment and develop a video resource targeting these barriers.
Methods: The study was guided by the capability, opportunity, motivation, behaviour (COM-B) and behaviour change wheel (BCW) frameworks.

Purpose: Pancytopenia in the setting of disseminated histoplasmosis is sparsely described in the literature. We investigated the underlying mechanisms of pancytopenia in disseminated histoplasmosis and highlighted clinical outcomes.
Methods: We conducted a scoping review of cases and series on disseminated histoplasmosis presenting with pancytopenia published between 2001 and 2024.

Purpose: Klebsiella pneumoniae is a common cause of hospital- and community-acquired infection and can readily acquire multiple antimicrobial resistance determinants leading to poor health outcomes. We define the contemporary burden of disease, risk factors for antimicrobial resistance, and poor health outcomes for patients with K. pneumoniae bloodstream infection (Kp-BSI).

Automated guided vehicles play a crucial role in transportation and industrial environments. This paper presents a proposed Bio Particle Swarm Optimization (BPSO) algorithm for global path planning. The BPSO algorithm modifies the equation to update the particles' velocity using the randomly generated angles, which enhances the algorithm's searchability and avoids premature convergence.

The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic substantially impacted the delivery of cancer services and programs. Here we reviewed and synthesized the global scale and impact of pandemic-related delays and disruptions on cancer services, including diagnosis, diagnostic procedures, screening, treatment and supportive and palliative care. Based on data from 245 articles in 46 countries, we observed declines in the number of cancer screening participation (39.

Embracing local knowledge is vital to conserve and manage biodiversity, yet frameworks to do so are lacking. We need to understand which, and how many knowledge holders are needed to ensure that management recommendations arising from local knowledge are not skewed towards the most vocal individuals. Here, we apply a Wisdom of Crowds framework to a data-poor recreational catch-and-release fishery, where individuals interact with natural resources in different ways.

Nanoparticle-mediated delivery of nucleic acids and proteins into intact plants has the potential to modify metabolic pathways and confer desirable traits in crops. Here we show that layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanosheets coated with lysozyme are actively taken up into the root tip, root hairs and lateral root junctions by endocytosis, and translocate via an active membrane trafficking pathway in plants. Lysozyme coating enhanced nanosheet uptake by (1) loosening the plant cell wall and (2) stimulating the expression of endocytosis and other membrane trafficking genes.

Wind is an important ecological factor for plants as it can increase evapotranspiration and cause dehydration. However, the impact of wind on plant hydraulics at a global scale remains unclear. Here we compiled plant key hydraulic traits, including water potential at 50% loss of hydraulic conductivity (P), xylem-specific hydraulic conductivity (K), leaf area to sapwood area ratio (A/A) and conduit diameter (D) with 2,786 species-at-site combinations across 1,922 woody species at 469 sites worldwide and analysed their correlations with wind speed.

In contrast to adult mammalian hearts, the adult zebrafish heart efficiently replaces cardiomyocytes lost after injury. Here we reveal shared and species-specific injury response pathways and a correlation between Hmga1, an architectural non-histone protein, and regenerative capacity, as Hmga1 is required and sufficient to induce cardiomyocyte proliferation and required for heart regeneration. In addition, Hmga1 was shown to reactivate developmentally silenced genes, likely through modulation of H3K27me3 levels, poising them for a pro-regenerative gene program.

Detection and teeth segmentation from X-rays, aiding healthcare professionals in accurately determining the shape and growth trends of teeth. However, small dataset sizes due to patient privacy, high noise, and blurred boundaries between periodontal tissue and teeth pose challenges to the models' transportability and generalizability, making them prone to overfitting. To address these issues, we propose a novel model, named Grouped Attention and Cross-Layer Fusion Network (GCNet).

The increasingly concerning issue of water pollution caused by untreated leachate necessitates the implementation of effective wastewater treatment methods. This study addresses the crucial issue of landfill leachate treatment through an innovative and environmentally friendly approach that integrates electrolysis with palm-shell activated carbon contactors. The efficacy of an integrated process for pollutants removal was assessed involving electrolysis with aluminum and iron electrodes, activated carbon contactors with varying bed depths, and the influence of salinity.

This study presents a novel privacy-preserving self-supervised (SSL) framework for COVID-19 classification from lung CT scans, utilizing federated learning (FL) enhanced with Paillier homomorphic encryption (PHE) to prevent third-party attacks during training. The FL-SSL based framework employs two publicly available lung CT scan datasets which are considered as labeled and an unlabeled dataset. The unlabeled dataset is split into three subsets which are assumed to be collected from three hospitals.

Malaria has been a severe global and public health concern for the last couple of decades. Ghana, like many other countries in sub-Saharan Africa, is most affected by the disease, with children facing dire consequences. The recent introduction of the RTS, S malaria vaccine holds great potential in reducing malaria fatalities in children.

Every node in a network is said to be resolved if it can be uniquely identified by a vector of distances to a specific set of nodes. The metric dimension is equivalent to the least possible cardinal number of a resolving set. Conditional resolving sets are obtained by imposing various constraints on resolving set.

In a prospective longitudinal study with 218 Parkinson's disease (PD) patients in the discovery cohort and 84 in the validation cohort, we aimed to identify novel blood biomarkers predicting disability milestones in PD. Through Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator-Cox (Lasso-Cox) regression, developed nomogram predictive model and Linear mixed-effects models, we identified low level of plasma fibronectin (pFN) as one of the best-performing risk markers in predicting disability milestones. A low level of pFN was associated with a short milestone-free survival period in PD.

Complex-valued neural networks process both amplitude and phase information, in contrast to conventional artificial neural networks, achieving additive capabilities in recognizing phase-sensitive data inherent in wave-related phenomena. The ever-increasing data capacity and network scale place substantial demands on underlying computing hardware. In parallel with the successes and extensive efforts made in electronics, optical neuromorphic hardware is promising to achieve ultra-high computing performances due to its inherent analog architecture and wide bandwidth.

Time-bin entangled qudits are promising candidates for implementing high-dimensional quantum communications over optical fiber networks with processing rates approaching those of classical telecommunications. However, their use is hindered by phase instability, timing inaccuracy, and low scalability of interferometric schemes needed for time-bin processing.

Oxidative stress, caused by the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), is a pathological factor in several incurable neurodegenerative conditions as well as in stroke. However, our knowledge of the genetic elements that can be manipulated to protect neurons from oxidative stress-induced cell death is still very limited. Here, using Caenorhabditis elegans as a model system, combined with the optogenetic tool KillerRed to spatially and temporally control ROS generation, we identify a previously uncharacterized gene, oxidative stress protective 1 (osp-1), that protects C.
