Currently, in Australia, 1 in 8 women are diagnosed with breast cancer. A common adjuvant treatment for breast cancer is radiation therapy (RT). The amalgamation of side effects caused by RT treatment can ultimately affect a patient's quality of life (QoL).

Maternal obesity management: a narrative literature review of health policies.

Maternal obesity rates are increasing significantly, posing substantial risks to both mothers and their children. This study aims to introduce health policies addressing maternal obesity, identify preventive interventions, and highlight scientific gaps necessitating further research.We identified documents through electronic searches in PubMed, CINAHL Plus, EMBASE, and grey literature sources (ministry of health websites, national gynecology and obstetrics associations) from January 2013 to August 2023, updated in June 2024.

Concurrent use of hormonal long-acting reversible contraception by women of reproductive age dispensed teratogenic medications, Australia, 2013-2021: a retrospective cohort study.

Objectives: To examine patterns in the dispensing of category X medications (Therapeutic Goods Administration categorisation system for prescribing medicines in pregnancy) to women aged 15-49 years in Australia during 2008-2021, and patterns of concurrent use of hormonal long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) and other hormonal contraception.

Background: An increasing incidence of pediatric-onset inflammatory bowel disease (PIBD) has been reported in many countries. However, the global burden and distribution of this disease remain less understood. We aimed to examine the global epidemiology and trends of PIBD from 1990 to 2019.

Sentiment and attitudes toward offsetting and the biodiversity market in online media articles.

Biodiversity offsetting, a conservation approach to offset loss of habitat and ecosystem services, has been widely accepted and implemented in different legislative frameworks around the globe. I assigned sentiment scores (from -3 [very negative] to +3 [very positive]) to online news articles to examine public sentiment toward offsetting. I identified 86 pertinent articles published from 2013 to 2023 by web scraping online media outlets through keywords.

A systematic review exploring healthcare professionals' perceptions of take-home naloxone dispensing in acute care areas.

Aims: To explore healthcare professionals' perceptions and experiences of take-home naloxone initiatives in acute care settings to gain an understanding of issues facilitating or impeding dispensing.

Design: Systematic literature review.

Data Sources: Cochrane, MEDLINE and CINAHL were searched from 15/03/2021 to 18/03/2021, with a follow-up search performed via PubMed on 22/03/2021.

Study Design: Anonymous online survey OBJECTIVES: To investigate the priorities, needs and willingness to adopt nerve stimulation devices for managing neurogenic bladder and bowel function in people with spinal cord injury (SCI) living in Australia.

Setting: Online survey of people living with SCI in Australia.

Methods: This anonymous online survey used Qualtrics and was advertised via standard communication channels, such as advocacy groups representing the SCI community in Australia, social media, attending SCI sporting events and by word-of-mouth.

Being a "Warrior" to Care for the New Family: A Meta-ethnography of Nurses' Perspectives on Municipal Postnatal Healthcare.

Care in the postnatal period is a goal for all families with a newborn baby, and support from nurses might prevent long-term health problems and contribute to a positive postnatal experience. This meta-ethnography aims to integrate and synthesize qualitative studies that illuminate and describe nurses' perspectives on municipal postnatal health care in high-income countries. Systematic literature searches for qualitative studies were conducted and 13 articles were included.

The Australian Gonococcal Surveillance Programme (AGSP) has continuously monitored antimicrobial resistance in Neisseria gonorrhoeae for more than 40 years. In 2022, a total of 8,199 isolates from patients in the public and private sectors, in all jurisdictions, were tested for in vitro antimicrobial susceptibility by standardised methods. The current treatment recommendation for gonorrhoea, for the majority of Australia, continues to be dual therapy with ceftriaxone and azithromycin.

Health care experiences of people with Parkinson's disease in Australia.

Background: Little is known about the health care experiences of people with Parkinson's disease (PwP) living in Australia. Exploring health care experiences can provide insight into service gaps which can then help direct quality improvement, such as improving communication between patients and health professionals.

Methods: This study aimed to examine the health care experiences of a sample of PwP living in Australia using the Patient-Centered Questionnaire for Parkinson's disease (PCQ-PD).

Burden of disease and real-world treatment patterns of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus in the Australian OPAL dataset.

Objective: To describe the demographics, disease burden and real-world management of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in Australian community practice.

Methods: Patients with a physician diagnosis of SLE and at least 1 visit between 1 January 2009 and 31 March 2021 were identified in the OPAL dataset, an aggregated collection of data extracted from the electronic medical records of patients managed by 112 Australian rheumatologists. Demographics, basic clinical features and prescribed medications were described, with medication combinations used as a surrogate of disease severity.

Acting locally, thinking nationally: layering Indigenous ontology within wellbeing frameworks.

There are hundreds of sovereign nations covering the modern nation-state of Australia.1 Noting the inadequacy of many contemporary terms to encompass Indigenous ontology, Indigenous nations have long practised what is now being expressed as 'wellbeing frameworks' in many nation-states. Unlike the sentiment expressed in contemporary wellbeing frameworks, Country - the complex web of relationships between the human and other-than-human that underpins everything2 - and relationality are fundamental to Indigenous 'wellbeing'.

Understanding the telehealth experience of care by people with ILD during the COVID-19 pandemic: what have we learnt?

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a rapid transformation of health services. This study aimed to understand the experiences of healthcare by people with interstitial lung disease (ILD), to inform future service delivery.

Methods: Four specialist clinics in tertiary centres in Australia (Victoria:2 sites; New South Wales: 1 site; Western Australia: 1 site) recruited patients with ILD during an 8-week period from March 2021.

Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) has been identified as the most significant infectious disease of feedlot cattle in eastern Australia. Bovine respiratory disease causes economic loss due to medication costs, mortalities, excessive feed inputs associated with increased time on feed, reduced sale prices and associated labour costs. Bovine respiratory disease is a complex multifactorial condition with multiple animal, environmental and management risk factors predisposing cattle to illness.

Urban dwellers' use of public and private green spaces may have changed during the early years of the Covid-19 pandemic due to movement restriction. A survey was deployed in Brisbane and Sydney, Australia 1 year after the start of Covid-19 restrictions (April 2021) to explore relationships of mental health and wellbeing to different patterns of private yard versus public green space visitation. More frequent yard use during the initial year of Covid-19 was correlated with lower stress, depression, and anxiety and higher wellbeing.

Healthcare cost burden of acute chest pain presentations.

Background: This study aimed to estimate the direct healthcare cost burden of acute chest pain attendances presenting to ambulance in Victoria, Australia, and to identify key cost drivers especially among low-risk patients.

Methods: State-wide population-based cohort study of consecutive adult patients attended by ambulance for acute chest pain with individual linkage to emergency and hospital admission data in Victoria, Australia (1 January 2015-30 June 2019). Direct healthcare costs, adjusted for inflation to 2020-2021 ($A), were estimated for each component of care using a casemix funding method.
