Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at whether a medical procedure called thrombectomy helps patients who have a large stroke as seen on a specific type of scan called a noncontrast CT within 24 hours of having the stroke.
  • It involved 300 patients from different hospitals who were split into two groups; one group received the thrombectomy treatment, while the other only received regular care.
  • The main goal was to see if those who had thrombectomy had better recovery after 90 days compared to those who didn’t, along with checking if there were any serious side effects.

Objective: Although American and European consensus statements advocate using the ratio of the transmitral E velocity and tissue Doppler early diastolic mitral annular velocity (E/e') in the assessment of left-sided heart filling pressures, recent reports have questioned the reliability of this ratio to predict left atrial pressures in a variety of disease states. The authors hypothesized that there is a clinically significant correlation between E/e' and pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP) in patients with severe aortic stenosis.

Design: Retrospective cohort study.

. Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) comprises approximately 3% to 10% of all non-Hodgkin lymphomas. Although there is an increased risk for secondary malignancies after treatment among non-Hodgkin lymphomas survivors, a synchronous diagnosis of primary lung cancer arising in conjunction with lymphoma at the same site has rarely been reported.

Background: The correlation between noninvasive (oscillometric) blood pressure (NBP) and intra-arterial blood pressure (IAP) in critically ill patients receiving vasoactive medications in a Neurocritical Care Unit has not been systematically studied. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between simultaneously measured NBP and IAP recordings in these patients.

Methods: Prospective observational study of patients (N = 70) admitted to a neurocritical care unit receiving continuous vasopressor or antihypertensive infusions.

The rapid detection of HPV in patients with HNSCC may expedite treatment when p16 status is not immediately available.

Objectives: Transoral Robotic Surgery (TORS) has emerged as an alternative to radiotherapy or chemoradiotherapy for the treatment of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC).
