Charge radii of neutron deficient ^{40}Sc and ^{41}Sc nuclei were determined using collinear laser spectroscopy. With the new data, the chain of Sc charge radii extends below the neutron magic number N=20 and shows a pronounced kink, generally taken as a signature of a shell closure, but one notably absent in the neighboring Ca, K, and Ar isotopic chains. Theoretical models that explain the trend at N=20 for the Ca isotopes cannot reproduce this puzzling behavior.

The placenta serves in immunological defense of the fetus, providing proteins essential for innate immunity. Maternal and fetal portions of two mammalian placenta types, discoid, and cotyledonary, were separated and analyzed for antibacterial activity using a culture-independent method. Antibacterial activity was detected in both maternal and fetal portions of all placenta types tested.

We present measurements of the cross section and double-helicity asymmetry A_{LL} of direct-photon production in p[over →]+p[over →] collisions at sqrt[s]=510 GeV. The measurements have been performed at midrapidity (|η|<0.25) with the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider.

Recently, there has been increased interest in the role of the cerebellum in autism spectrum disorders (ASD). To better understand the pathophysiological role of the cerebellum in ASD, it is necessary to have a variety of mouse models that have face validity for cerebellar disruption in humans. Here, we add to the literature on the cerebellum transgenic and induced mouse models of autism with the characterization of the cerebellum in the BTBR T+Itpr3/J (BTBR) inbred mouse strain, which has behavioral phenotypes that are suggestive of ASD in patients.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic created a unique opportunity to evolve an interdisciplinary palliative care seminar (IPC) into a virtual platform. This seminar provides foundational palliative and hospice concepts, introductions into palliative care disciplines, integration of teamwork, and incorporates interdisciplinary student led patient encounters. Traditionally, this experience had been in person, however during the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare restrictions transitioned the educational delivery to a virtual platform.

Procedures used to elicit both behavioral and neurophysiological data to address a particular cognitive question can impact the nature of the data collected. We used functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to assess performance of a modified finger tapping task in which participants performed synchronized or syncopated tapping relative to a metronomic tone. Both versions of the tapping task included a pacing phase (tapping with the tone) followed by a continuation phase (tapping without the tone).

The present meta-analysis aimed to provide the largest quantitative synthesis of associations between weight bias internalization and health-related correlates. Studies that provided zero-order correlations for cross-sectional or prospective associations between weight bias internalization and physical, psychosocial, and behavioral health correlates were included in the meta-analysis.

Dark matter elastic scattering off nuclei can result in the excitation and ionization of the recoiling atom through the so-called Migdal effect. The energy deposition from the ionization electron adds to the energy deposited by the recoiling nuclear system and allows for the detection of interactions of sub-GeV/c^{2} mass dark matter. We present new constraints for sub-GeV/c^{2} dark matter using the dual-phase liquid argon time projection chamber of the DarkSide-50 experiment with an exposure of (12 306±184) kg d.

Bimanual in-phase and anti-phase coordination modes represent two basic movement patterns with distinct characteristics-homologous muscle contraction and non-homologous muscle contraction, respectively. A method to understand the contribution of each limb to the overall coordination pattern involves detuning (Δω) the natural eigenfrequency of each limb. In the present experiment, we experimentally broke the symmetry between the two upper limbs by adding elastic and viscous force fields using a Kinarm robot exoskeleton.

Direct-to-consumer genetic testing (DTC-GT) is genetic testing initiated by a consumer through a commercial company without the direct involvement of a physician or genetics professional. DTC-GT companies have developed tests that provide information about one's ancestry, carrier status, and risk to develop certain conditions. As more consumers participate in DTC-GT, primary care providers (PCPs) are at a greater chance to encounter DTC-GT results and conversations in their practice.

South Dakota's Newborn Screening (NBS) program has been in existence for nearly 50 years. What began as a screen for a single condition has now expanded to more than 50 conditions. From 2005-2019 alone, 315 infants were confirmed as positive for a condition detected by the newborn screen in South Dakota.

There are two main types of chromosomal translocations known as reciprocal translocations and Robertsonian translocations. These chromosomal rearrangements are described as balanced when there is no significant loss of chromosomal material. Most carriers of balanced translocations are phenotypically normal and may not even know they are carriers of a balanced translocation.

Introduction: Core strengthening, balance, and flexibility programs such as Pilates have been advocated to positively impact running mechanics and prevent lower extremity injuries. The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of a 12-week mat-based Pilates exercise program on dynamic knee valgus alignment in runners.
Methods: Thirty-four novice runners, including young male and female adults performed a running protocol at baseline.

Ethnic-racial under-represented students (URM) exhibit greater attrition rates from physical therapy (PT) doctoral programs. Most predictive analytics in PT education are based on predictors of success in passing the licensure examination. However, data predicting the reasons why these groups of URM students withdraw from PT school are scarce.

It is with great pleasure and honor that the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP), in agreement with their fifth strategic goal of publishing special issues in the ASAHP's Journal of Allied Health, introduces this special issue in Disparities in Health Professions Education and Care. This special issue addresses topics regarding under-represented and disadvantaged students and faculty and highlights curriculum recommendations in health professions education, primarily in rehabilitation sciences. Recent events have highlighted the need to understand the barriers and disparities that students pursuing careers in healthcare and practicing clinicians face or have faced throughout their careers.

Nurses play an important role in pandemic and disaster response, often at a personal cost to their overall well-being. Interviews with 19 frontline COVID-19 nurses helped illuminate priority focus areas involving nurses in the planning process, providing clear communication and offering mental health services. These recommendations align with and reinforce conclusions and recommendations from The Future of Nursing 2020-2030 Report.
