Background and Objectives: Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) has, besides its benefits, various limitations. For instance, atrial fibrillation (AF) has a huge impact on the therapy efficacy. It usually reduces the overall BiV pacing percentage and leads, inevitably, to lack of fusion beats.

Cardiovascular outcomes trials (CVOTs) with novel drugs to treat type 2 diabetes have uniformly chosen the composite "major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE)" as their primary endpoint, but they also report hazard ratios for individual cardiovascular outcomes (myocardial infarction, stroke, cardiovascular death, all-cause death, hospitalization for heart failure). We wanted to scrutinize the power to identify significant differences with respect to individual as compared to composite outcomes. We estimated post hoc the statistical power to detect significant differences of 10-25% for published studies, comparing the proportions of patients with an event (two-sided log-rank tests).

Objectives: The UEFA 2020 European Football Championship held in multiple cities across Europe from June 11 to July 11, 2021, was won by Italy, providing an opportunity to examine the relationship between emotional stress and the incidence of acute cardiovascular events (ACE).
Methods And Results: Cardiovascular hospitalizations in the Cardiac Care Units of 49 hospital networks in Italy were assessed by emergency physicians during the UEFA Euro 2020 Football Championship. We compared the events that occurred during matches involving Italy with events that occurred during the remaining days of the championship as the control period.

Objectives: The objective is to assess the performance of the Eluvia polymer coated drug eluting stent (DES) compared to a bare metal stent (BMS) platform in patients with femoropopliteal arterial disease.
Methods: This is a retrospective, single-center analysis. Patients treated with the Eluvia DES (group Eluvia) or the EverFlex BMS (group BMS) for femoropopliteal disease between January 2013 and December 2019 were included.

Purpose: Sex-based differences in peripheral arterial disease are well-known. Aim of this study was to evaluate sex-related disparities in patients undergoing endovascular treatment of isolated popliteal artery lesions.
Material And Methods: Between 1th January 2004 and 1th January 2021 304 patients underwent endovascular treatment of an isolated popliteal artery lesion at three vascular centers.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a surgically constructed bilateral peritoneal flap (PIF) as an adjunct to robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) and pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND) on the incidence of lymphoceles.
Materials And Methods: A total of 530 men with localized prostate cancer underwent a RARP with bilateral extended standardized PLND in a prospective randomized controlled trial. In group A, a PIF was created by suturing the margins of the bladder peritoneum to the ipsilateral endopelvic fascia at 2 points on each side.

Background: Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) with bullectomy and partial pleurectomy (VBPP) is an increasingly used and well-established surgical treatment for primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP). However, reports on its effectiveness and long-term outcomes are limited. The aim of this study was to assess and compare long-term recurrence rates following VBPP and chest tube (CT) treatment and to identify potential risk factors for disease recurrence in patients with PSP.

In clinical practice, the distinction between type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) can be challenging, leaving patients with "ambiguous" diabetes type. Insulin-treated patients (n=115) previously diagnosed with T2DM had to be re-classified based on clinical phenotype and laboratory results, and were operationally defined as having an ambiguous diabetes type. They were compared against patients with definite T1DM and T2DM regarding 12 clinical and laboratory features typically different between diabetes types.

Background: The objectives of the study were to investigate the organizational characteristics of acute care facilities worldwide in preventing and managing infections in surgery; assess participants' perception regarding infection prevention and control (IPC) measures, antibiotic prescribing practices, and source control; describe awareness about the global burden of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and IPC measures; and determine the role of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 pandemic on said awareness.
Methods: A cross-sectional web-based survey was conducted contacting 1432 health care workers (HCWs) belonging to a mailing list provided by the Global Alliance for Infections in Surgery. The self-administered questionnaire was developed by a multidisciplinary team.

Objectives: A growing number of abdominal aortic aneurysms with severe angulated neck anatomy is treated by endovascular means. However, contradictory early and late outcomes have been reported. Our review and outcome analysis attempted to evaluate the available literature and provide clinicians with a base for clinical implementation and future research.

Introduction: The combination of intravascular lithotripsy (IVL) and drug-coated balloon (DCB) angioplasty for calcified peripheral lesions is associated with promising short-term results. However, data regarding the 12 months performance of this treatment option is missing. This study reports on the outcomes of IVL and DCB angioplasty for calcified femoropopliteal disease.

Purpose: Patients with a hyperangulated (>60°) proximal aortic neck and at high risk of open surgery have been treated with endovascular aortic repair (EVAR). However, long-term outcomes are not well reported. The aim of this study is to compare the technical and clinical success of EVAR in angulated (45°-60°) and hyperangulated (>60°) proximal neck angulation.

The electrophysiological activity of the heart is recorded and presented in form of electrocardiogram (ECG). In 1998 the concept of P wave dispersion as the risk factor for atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence was introduced. It was calculated as the difference between the longest and the shortest P wave.

Background: Overall survival remains poor in older patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with less than 10% being alive after 5 years. In recent studies, a significant improvement in event-free, relapse-free and overall survival was shown by adding gemtuzumab ozogamicin (GO), a humanized antibody-drug conjugate directed against CD33, to intensive induction therapy once or in a sequential dosing schedule. Glasdegib, the small-molecule inhibitor of smoothened (SMO), also showed improved overall survival in patients not eligible for intensive chemotherapy when combined with low-dose cytarabine compared to low-dose cytarabine alone.

Purpose: We hypothesized that extending the proximal landing zone with the chimney technique could be beneficial in patients with a hyperangulated proximal aortic neck, defined as more > 60 degrees.
Material And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the outcome of prospectively collected data of patients treated by endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) for infrarenal aortic aneurysm with a hyperangulated proximal aortic neck. In all, 104 out of 130 patients were treated without (Group A) and 24 with the chimney endovascular aortic repair (ChEVAR, Group B).

Background: Aim of this study was to clarify the best laparoscopic subtotal cholecystectomy (LSTC) technique for finalizing a difficult cholecystectomy.
Patients And Methods: A review was performed (1987-2021) searching "difficulty cholecystectomy" AND/OR "subtotal cholecystectomy". The LSTC techniques considered were as follows: type A, leaving posterior wall attached to the liver and the remainder of the gallbladder stump open; type B, like type A but with the stump closed; type C, resection of both the anterior and posterior gallbladder walls and the stump closed; type D, like type C but with the stump open.
