Background: Despite the prevalence of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) to evaluate results after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, there exists little standardization in how these metrics are reported, which can make wider comparisons difficult.
Purpose: To systematically review the literature on ACL reconstruction and report on the variability and temporal trends in PRO utilization.
Study Design: Systematic review.

The prevalence of obesity in the United States is at a record high of 42%. In 1999, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recognized the obesity epidemic as a national problem, spurring the first generation of interventions for obesity prevention and control. Despite billions of dollars in funding, legislative changes, and public health initiatives, the trajectory of American obesity has not waivered.

Unlabelled: Costs of healthcare in the US continue to rise at rates that are unsustainable. Prior studies, most of which come from non-surgical specialties, indicate that a variety of strategies to teach this material are utilized but without consensus on best practices. No studies exist regarding the teaching of cost-effective care in orthopaedic residency training programs.

Background: Increasingly, dual mobility (DM) articulations have been used in revision total hip arthroplasty (THA), which may prevent postoperative hip instability. The purpose of this study was to report on outcomes of DM implants used in revision THA from the American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR).
Methods: Revision THA cases performed between 2012 and 2018 Medicare were eligible and categorized by 3 articulations: DM, ≤32 mm, and ≥36 mm femoral heads.

Objective: Opioid-related adverse drug events continue to occur. This study aimed to characterize the patient population receiving naloxone to inform future intervention efforts.
Design: We describe a case series of patients who received naloxone in the hospital during a 16-week time frame in 2016.

Clinicians frequently assess asymmetry in strength, flexibility, and performance characteristics as a method of screening for potential musculoskeletal injury. The identification of asymmetry in countermovement jumps may be an ideal method to reveal asymmetry in other lower extremity characteristics such as strength that otherwise may require additional testing, potentially reducing the time and burden on both the athlete and clinicians. The present study aims to examine the ability of asymmetry in both the single-leg and two-leg countermovement jump tests to accurately detect hip abduction, hip adduction, and eccentric hamstring strength asymmetry.

A lateral jump assessment may provide unique benefits in sports such as basketball that require multidirectional performance optimization. This study aimed to examine selected force-plate derived metrics as predictors of lateral jump task distance in men's basketball players. Twenty-two NCAA Division-I men's basketball players (19.

Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Columbia University Irving Medical Center, NY, NY, USA.
Background: There is minimal work defining the economic impact of resident participation in shoulder arthroplasty. Thus, this study quantified the opportunity cost of resident participation in total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) and hemiarthroplasty (HA) by determining differences in operative time, relative value units (RVUs)/hour, and RVUs/case.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of shoulder arthroplasty procedures were identified from the ACS-NSQIP database from 2006 to 2014 using CPT codes.

Background: Two-stage exchange arthroplasty is currently the preferred treatment method for periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). The effectiveness of this strategy in returning patients to premorbid function has recently been challenged. In a review of 18,535 PJI knee patients, 38% did not undergo reimplantation.

Background: When return to sport (RTS) at a competitive level is desired, treatment of injury to the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) frequently involves surgical reconstruction. Although RTS rates between 66% and 98% have been reported, there remains a paucity of comparative clinical studies, with far fewer reporting statistically significant risk factors for reconstruction failure. The goal of this study was to perform a systematic review of the literature to demonstrate the variety and inconsistency with which risk factors associated with reconstruction failure are reported.

However, lab-to-lab variability jeopardizes the much-needed progress in the field. Here, an international group of spine scientists collaborated to standardize extraction and expansion techniques for NP cells to reduce variability, improve comparability between labs and improve utilization of funding and resources.

Objectives: To assess whether implementation of the Strengthen Opioid Misuse Prevention (STOP) Act was associated with an increase in the percentage of opioid prescriptions written for 7 days or fewer among patients with acute or postsurgical musculoskeletal conditions.
Design: An interrupted time-series study was conducted to determine the change in duration of opioid prescriptions associated with the STOP Act.
Setting: Data were extracted from the electronic health record of a large health care system in North Carolina.

Sciatic nerve injury after closed reduction of a dislocated total hip arthroplasty (THA) is an exceedingly rare but tremendously devastating complication. Closed reduction is the standard of care and is typically associated with a low complication rate. There have only been seven sciatic nerve injuries after closed reduction of a dislocated THA reported in the literature, and none were secondary to nerve laceration.

Background: Advances have been made to the traditional inlay Grammont Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty (RSA) design such as the onlay humeral component prosthesis. Currently, there is no agreement in the literature regarding the best option for the humeral component when comparing inlay and onlay designs. This review compares the outcomes and complications between onlay versus inlay humeral components for RSA.

Introduction: Proximal biceps tenodesis is a common surgical treatment of tendinosis of the long head of the biceps tendon. Two of the most common techniques incorporate onlay and inlay fixation methods, which can be done arthroscopically or open and in a variety of anatomic locations. The purpose of this meta-analysis was to compare the clinical outcomes between onlay versus inlay humeral fixation for biceps tenodesis for long head of the biceps tendon pathology.
