Midkine (MDK) is a protein that contributes to both physiological and pathological processes. Several studies provide insight into the different roles of MDK in development, tissue repair, neural plasticity, and health and disease processes. This research further examined how MDK contributed to conditions, including neurological diseases, inflammation, and ischaemia.

Aim: To explore the relationship between the retroperitoneal vasculature and anterior surface of the lower spine, and to establish values for aiding in prediction of the pertinence of anterior approach at the L4-L5 and L5-S1 intervertebral discs.
Material And Methods: The study included 13 fresh human cadavers. After exploration of the abdominal cavity and removal of the visceral organs, the vasculature, and anterior spinal surface were revealed beneath the lower extension of the perirenal fascia.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings in different age groups and genders in pediatric epilepsy, to determine the percentages of etiologic factors, and to evaluate the association between MRI positivity and treatment resistance.
Methods: Cranial MRIs of 359 patients with epilepsy aged 1 month to 18 years were retrospectively evaluated. Etiologic factors as an underlying cause of epilepsy were classified as previous parenchymal damage, hippocampal sclerosis, malformations of cortical development, tumor, neurocutaneous syndrome, myelination disorder, vascular anomaly, metabolic/genetic/neurodegenerative diseases, encephalitis, and an uncategorized "other" group.

In this study, it was aimed to assess effects of subclinical hyperthyroidism (SH) on bone metabolism using osteoprotegerin (OPG), sclerostin, Dickkopf-1 (DKK1) and biochemical parameters. This cross-sectional prospective study included 40 patients with SH and 40 euthyroid controls. Serum OPG, sclerostin, DKK-1, type-1 procollagen, C-terminal polypeptide (CTx) and 24-hours urine N-terminal telopeptide (NTx) were measures using ELISA kit.

Objective: To comparatively investigate the periodontal results and microbial load in subgingival biofilm samples (SBS) in rheumatoid arthritis subjects and healthy volunteers.
Methods: One hundred twenty subjects were classified into different cohorts: healthy (H-C); periodontitis with good systemic health (H-P); rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and good periodontal health (RA-C); and periodontitis with RA (RA-P). The periodontal parameters were recorded, and SBS were collected to determine periodontal pathogens including Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) and Candida albicans using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).

One of the immune responses desired to be achieved by SARS-CoV-2 vaccination is to create neutralizing antibodies (nAbs), thus preventing the development and spread of infection. The aim of this study was to investigate the seropositivity rate, anti-spike antibody levels, and neutralizing capacity of these antibodies against wild type (WT) and alpha variants in serum samples of individuals who had been naturally infected or vaccinated with CoronaVac®. Total anti-spike antibody levels were determined in all samples.

Background: Brain-gut axis dysregulation is observed in inflammatory bowel disease. However, the effect of altered gut flora on neuro- immunomodulation and its role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease are unknown. The aims of this study are to determine (i) whether colitis modifies the expression of c-fos, a marker of general neuronal activation in the brain and (ii) whether this activation could be modulated by probiotic bacteria.

Just as its clinical heterogeneity, genetic basis of Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is also diverse and multiple molecular pathways are thought to be involved in disease pathogenesis. In the present study, FTD- related genes were evaluated in a Turkish cohort of 175 index FTD patients with a gene panel including GRN, MAPT, TARDBP, FUS, CHMP2B and VCP genes. Potential genetic associations were prospected in 16 patients (9.

Aim: The aim of this study was to examine the roles of nitric oxide (NOx), endothelial nitric oxide synthetase (eNOS), and asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), which is the major endogenous inhibitor of nitric oxide synthases (NOS), in the pathophysiology of hemorrhoidal disease.
Methods: This study included 54 patients with grades 3 and 4 internal hemorrhoidal disease and 54 patients without the disease who attended the General Surgery Clinic. NOx, eNOS, and ADMA levels were measured with the Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay (ELISA) method.
