Dysphagia is a high-profile dysfunction that often occurs after a stroke, with a prevalence of 50%-80%. Post-stroke dysphagia (PSD) often leads to serious complications such as pneumonia and malnutrition, reducing the quality of life and leading to poor prognosis or even death. PSD causes these adverse physical and psychological impairments to patients, which becomes a challenge for both patients and physicians.

Background: Mobile health is being increasingly considered as a strategy to deliver healthcare to people with chronic diseases. This stands particularly true for cancer management where treatment is being progressively administered at home, requiring more involvement, education, and changes in behavior from patients. This article aims to identify the main axes of intervention for behavioral change of mHealth in cancer management and its relative impacts, as well as identify recent evidence on user preferences for optimal engagement in mHealth-based behavioral change strategies.

In April 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that 17.5% of the global adult population experience infertility. What may be the contribution of per-and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS) to this global public health problem? This study explored the associations between in vitro fertilization (IVF) outcomes and plasma concentrations of individual PFAS and PFAS mixtures in women undergoing in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET) and how these exposures might affect IVF outcomes.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a novel dietary supplement, including melatonin and magnesium, delivered via coffee pods on sleep quality, resting metabolic rate (RMR), and body composition in individuals with poor sleep quality disturbances. Using a double-blinded, randomized, crossover trial, we recruited 35 participants to a 4-week intervention with both supplements (1.9 mg melatonin + 200 mg elemental magnesium before sleep) and placebo conditions, considering a 7d washout period between treatments.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify predictive activation biomarkers in retinal microvascular characteristics of non-exudative macular neovascularization (MNV) and avoid delayed treatment or overtreatment of subclinical MNV. The main objective is to contribute to the international debate on a new understanding of the role of retinal vessel features in the pathogenesis and progression of non-exudative MNV and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). A discussion on revising-related clinical protocols is presented.

species are important sources of polycyclic and macrocyclic diterpenes, which have been the focus of natural-product-based drug research due to their relevant biological properties, including anticancer, multidrug resistance reversal, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory activities. Premyrsinane, cyclomyrsinane, and myrsinane diterpenes are generally and collectively designated as myrsinane-type diterpenes. These compounds are derived from the macrocyclic lathyrane structure and are characterized by having highly oxygenated rearranged polycyclic systems.

Pregnant women are more likely to face cardiovascular disease than non-pregnant women. However, abdominal aortic aneurysm is an extremely rare complication of pregnancy. Abdominal aortic aneurysms in pregnancy are difficult to identify in the early stage and are often diagnosed only when the symptoms have manifested.

Background: The exact optimal timing of dialysis for ESKD patients remains unknown. This study systematically reviewed the available evidence with regard to the optimal initiation of maintenance dialysis in ESKD patients.
Methods: An electronic search was performed in Embase, PubMed and the Cochrane Library in order to find studies investigating associations between variables reference to "start of dialysis" and outcomes.

Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and anthropometry are considered alternatives to well-established reference techniques for assessing body composition. In team sports, the percentage of fat mass (FM%) is one of the most informative parameters, and a wide range of predictive equations allow for its estimation through both BIA and anthropometry. Although it is not clear which of these two techniques is more accurate for estimating FM%, the choice of the predictive equation could be a determining factor.

Is Long COVID-19 under-diagnosed? The definition of this new condition has received many contributions, and it is still under development as a great variety of symptoms have been associated to it. This study explores the possibility that there are non-diagnosed cases among individuals who have been infected by SARS-CoV-2 and have not been vaccinated. The long-term symptoms identified among a sample 255 individuals have been associated to Long COVID-19 by recent literature.

Aim: The article aims to outline a contrast between three priorities for nursing management proposed a decade ago and key features of the following 10 years of developments on artificial intelligence for health care and nursing management. This analysis intends to contribute to update the international debate on bridging the essence of health care and nursing management priorities and the focus of artificial intelligence developers.
Background: Artificial intelligence research promises innovative approaches to supporting nurses' clinical decision-making and to conduct tasks not related to patient interaction, including administrative activities and patient records.

This study aimed to compare muscle strength and power indicators according to bioimpedance spectroscopy’s phase angle (PhA) values, in resistance-trained (RT) men, while exploring associations between PhA and performance. Forty-four men aged 18−45 years, engaged in RT, were allocated according to PhA tertiles. Lean soft tissue (LST) and fat mass (%FM) were assessed using dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry; dynamic muscle strength using 1 repetition maximum (1RM) of bench press (BP) and back squat (BS) and muscle power using Wingate test (WT) and countermovement jump (CMJ).

Aiming at overcoming multidrug resistance (MDR) in cancer, we have been studying Momordica balsamina, a vegetable known as African pumpkin. Five undescribed cucurbitane-type triterpenoids (balsaminaepoxide, balsaminatriol, balsaminoic acid, balsaminal, and balsaminol G) along with five known cucurbitacins were isolated from the methanol extract of Momordica balsamina aerial parts, whose structures were elucidated by spectroscopic data, mainly 1D and 2D NMR experiments. Compounds were evaluated for their ability as P-glycoprotein (P-gp/ABCB1) inhibitors in multidrug resistant human ABCB1-transfected mouse lymphoma cells (L5178Y, MDR) and resistant human colon adenocarcinoma cells (COLO 320), using the rhodamine-123 exclusion test, by flow cytometry.

These diseases were circumscribed to South American and African countries in the past. However, human migration, military interventions, and climate changes have had an important effect on their worldwide propagation, particularly Chagas disease.

In this article it is presented a multi-logistic model to describe the time evolution of the Covid-19 pandemics. The model is not intended as paragon for the accurate prediction of the future number of people infected, but instead as a useful phenomenological approach for a comprehensive understanding of the pandemic development, able to uncover some hidden aspects of its unfolding. Our results, using OWID data of total cases and daily cases of Covid-19 from March 12, 2020, up to September 27, 2021, brought to light that the pandemic has unfolded globally as a multi-step logistic, namely six logistic phases, each with its own characteristic duration and intensity.
